Ladies trip to Maine

The house very clean! We enjoyed our coffee on the deck overlooking the harbor in the morning and playing cards in the dining area in the evening. The location is amazing!! We were all able to climb stairs, but for some this might be an issue.

Nice area to vacation

The house was big enough for the eight of us. The location was great. Not far from town, grocery stores and restaurants. Bathrooms and bedrooms were updated and clean. The sliding door needs to be replaced and some of the windows need screens on them.

Looks like a haunted house

I rented the cottage and suite,( I wouldn't describe either that way ) for 7 adults. Upon driving up to the property it looked like a dilapidated storage facility. The bottom of the building had 2 large garage doors for boats and a commercial area to process lobster. The paint was peeling and it looked like the place was abandoned. We were later told the garages were used for storing boats, and the owners could come and go at any time. There was also a commercial dumpster and a rusting discarded freezer in the front of the property. There was garbage on the ground around the dumpster! Also, there are other people permanently living on the property over the back garage. The stairs to the "cottage" as well as the deck were peeling, had loose floorboards and exposed nails. There was rusting chicken wire around the deck to make it "safe". There is a view of the water but it is not waterfront!! Upon entering the "cottage" it was very hot. Fans were blowing. We tried to open the windows but most were missing the casement window cranks. I immediately called Vacasa and they did send the caretaker over with one lever so we could open the windows. I also asked them send over something to cover the windows that didn't have blinds, that never happened! The "master bedroom" didn't have a window, just a skylight and an opening/passthrough to the living room. There was a shade on that opening, bizarre! The back 2 bedrooms were connected, so in order to get to one of rooms you had to go through the other. Not ideal for light sleepers or privacy. Each room only had one of the two windows covered with a blind. The other was not covered at all. We had to hang a sheet over it. Also the washer/dryer was in the first room and was not vented outside. The exhaust vent went into a makeshift little box that was just sitting on the floor. A fire hazard! The 4th bedroom, bathrooms, living room and kitchen were fine. Couch was too small for our 7, and definitely for the number of people the house is supposed to hold. Downstairs the "suite" was awful. It was stuffy, small and even though it probably had been redone, it looked rundown. I was very upset we had to put anyone down there to sleep. Unfortunately the accommodations upstairs were not ideal for a couple. I paid top dollar in season for this property, and was mortified and disgusted. From the outside the place looked like an abandoned motel. Do not rent this place!!!

Listing photos only tell part of the story.

Really depends on what you need this for. Ok views of the harbor but immediate surroundings leave much to be desired. Actual living space matches photos but location is located on top of a big industrial barn. Outside porch is expansive but immediate area landscaping is rough. If you just need a place for a large group to crash in relative proximity to Acadia this will work. Just don’t plan on hanging out here too much. Kitchen equipped, big dinning area, in unit laundry all Pluses.

Great view of the water!

It was a nice location! Enjoyed the view of the waters from all the windows. Nicely furnished. Would have ben nice if more windows opened for better air flow especially since the back bedroom was VERY uncomfortable from the dryer being vented into the room!

Slap-together apartmenrt above a barn

The property description did not match the real feel of this rental. Seems like it was furnished by a college age guy and not inhabited by anyone otherwise. Cheap furniture and squeeky bed frames, no blinds on the windows, junky mugs and dog bowls for cereal bowls. Also, there are 3 fireplaces but none are working. The porch is also sparsely furnished and the railing is quite rickety. That said, the location is fabulous and the property has a lot of potential of it is renovated a bit.

Gorgeous views and location

This property is beautiful with stunning views. Location is about 40 to 45 minutes from Bar Harbor, with plenty to do close by as well like Echo Lake. It took over 12 hours to get a broken fan replaced and there is no air circulation even with all the windows that we could open opened. Some cranks on the windows were missing and with this summer heating up the warmth put a damper on sleep time. I would also recommend putting something down that keeps the couches and beds from Moving everywhere - we were constantly sliding about! Overall a great stay. If the windows, fan, and sliding couches/beds were fixed for the next visitors I think they'd appreciate it especially with the hot hot summer!

Gorgeous views!

The view is unbeatable. The location is great as well, the bus stops right across the street at Manset dock. A couple of notes to the owners - I would recommend fixing all of the windows so all of them open properly, it was super warm when we stayed and there was little to no air circulation in the house. The dryer exhausts right into the back room adding to the heat problem. Either add a/c or vent the dryer outside and fix the windows :) Also some kind of stopper on the couch would be nice as it slid every time someone would sit down! Overall it was a great stay - these are simple fixes and suggestions for your next guests :)

Bit of a surprise....

Southwest Harbor was nice, quiet and well off the beaten path. A bit of an industrial area but suited us OK. Traveled with siblings and family so time together won out. The surprise was the external appearance of the home. Very rough, weathered and the unit sits on top of a large garage unit- some kind of maintenance operation but not active presently. Once inside, the unit was nice. Clean with average furnishings and plenty of room for our 10. We had also the unit on the first floor in the back. Biggest surprise was it was not cleaned- someone had stayed there and tough first impression. Good news, we called and within the hour someone (very pleasant) was present and working. We debated not staying because of overall first impressions were very bad, but happy we stayed after all. The porch was terrific and view was equally nice. Tough start but family, positive attitude and overall cleanliness won. The pictures were not representative of unit- would like to have a bit more transparency. Have used vrbo dozens of times and this was a one or two star stay(bottom three) but loved Bar Harbor, Maine, the people so will live to stay another day.

A Diamond in the Rough

This place was such a pleasant surprise and in a very convenient location. Our family of 8 adults had plenty of room with enough bathrooms and space for everyone. The view is incredible and there’s so much to do nearby. Everything inside is nice and new and very clean. We loved our stay here!
