Holiday house

We rented the property to be in the area for the holiday. The house had plenty of sleeping spaces and linens. The kids were enjoyed seeing the horses on the property.

Nice stay

Everything was amazing! Clean house and the beds were super comfortable. The only bugaboo would be the hot water, it took a long time and when it finally got hot it went away right away.

Family reunion

Really enjoyed the rural setting and lots of room to visit together and eat outside in the evenings. Galley kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals & snacks (but could have used a little more counter space). Owners lived in main floor of house above this basement setting, but noise was never an issue & they were just a phone call away to answer any questions. Had a great time!

Hilltop retreat

Well manicured upscale property set in farm/ranch forested secluded area. Has a pond with a canoe and a small sandy beach. Pasture with horses. Our family enjoyed the surrounding metropolis as there are tons of things to do. Wonderful property! The next time we stay herewe will take it easier and ride the horses!

Christmas Holiday Getaway

Our family (spouse, adult daughter, three grandkids, and myself) spent a week that included Christmas at the High Ridge home. The home is in a beautiful, hilly area close to St. Louis and it fit our needs perfectly. A very special part of our stay included the feeding of the horses that are on the grounds of the property. The grandkids loved this experience. The hosts were excellent.

Great week-long stay with friends

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Rocking J Ranch. The house has enough space for 10 people (4 adults and 6 kids). The kids enjoyed petting and feeding the horses (with permission from the owners, Brian and Suzy). We experienced a four-hour county-wide power outage one night. Brian and Suzy were prompt with their response of multiple flashlights, lanterns, and candles. My son wanted to "go camping" and thanks to Brian and Suzy, we achieved it. Verizon cell reception is intermittent inside the house, but this was a blessing to keep us off our phones. We could simply walk outside if we needed to do something. I would recommend Rocking J to friends and family and will keep it in mind for a future visit to St. Louis.

Very scenic, relaxing

Very scenic, rural setting with a fire pit. Close to Six Flags, and 20/25 minutes to everything else. It is a basement apartment, with the owners living upstairs, but with its own entrance and yard area. There was a temporary problem with water pressure, but the owner fixed the problem quickly.

Family get together

Property was well equipped with everything we needed and any additional requirements were met immediately by the owner. We stayed a week and never had any problems. The beds were all very comfy which was a huge plus for us. Overall, a great place to spend quality time with family and just relaxing around the fire pit. Thank you Susan for being such a great host.

Great, quiet place to stay

This was a great little getaway on the outskirts of St. Louis. Just a quick drive to the St. Louis Zoo and etc but outside of the city enough to be quiet and cozy.

The Hyatt trip

The stay was amazing. We were in the country but still close to all the attractions we were wanting to go. About 30 minutes from downtown St.Louis and about 15 minutes from the zoo and six flags hurricane harbor. We scheduled a horseback riding hour trail ride. It was amazing. Kids really enjoyed this part. The property was clean and there was a patio to sit and enjoy at night. Inside was very clean and spacious. Would we stay their again? 100 percent yes.

This property is better than the pictures even portray. The building accommodation is nice and it is followed by a beautiful view. The owners are super nice people and very helpful. I 100% recommend this property. If we ever go back up to the St Louis area we will definitely book it again.

Serene spot away from the city

Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay! It was a peaceful place to rest at the end of our busy days enjoying Saint Louis. It was easy to get to all the main attractions, and the place was cozy, nicely decorated and clean. The beds were terrific! The owners were so hospitable and communicated well. Our kids enjoyed watching the horses and jumped in the pond a couple times to swim. The reasons we didn't rate it a 5 was just that the basement wasn't set up perfectly for guests. There's no climate control for the space, it's dark (which is very typical for basements - we understand), you can hear every step made above so we knew when the owners went to bed and woke, waking us (which means I'm sure they can hear us as well), and while there's always hot water (which was terrific), there is very little water pressure. That all being said, it was a nice place to land and you just have to decide if any of the above matters to you.

About the host

Semi Retired Couple , empty Nesters, and outdoor and nature lovers!
Randy keeps the grounds cut and trimmed beautifully! We love sharing
our little piece of heaven with others and hearing of their adventures
around the Country and World. We live in the Main Level of the Home full time,
unless we are vacationing like you.

Why they chose this property

You are close to St. Louis , 25 minutes via Highway 44 East, but setting is inside scenic
foothills and beautiful grassy Valleys with private little lakes, and wooded trails to lure you off the shaded patio to exercise and enjoy the views and nature all around. Our farm is home of all wildlife Missouri offers, quail, deer, skunk, fox, racoon, groundhog, coyote, and wrens, woodpecker, blu jay, cardinal, and Martens. We hardly get a mosquito because of the Martens, and bats that naturally take care of this. We recommend spray for other insects if you hike. In the West out 44 is Caverns .Branson is 5 hrs away.

What makes this property unique

You can be alone with nature, with no close houses next to you. You can do nothing or stay active daily with many options locally from City life in St Louis, to Natural Parks,
Fishing, and 6 flaggs close by. If you wish to float around on our private natural lake, bring your favorite float and maybe some water shoes, small beach to a floating dock and naturally clean, fresh water to cool off in. You have your own laundry room too.
