This was a wonderful property to stay at while vacationing in the Hills. The kids LOVED the game room and the playground outside. Very well stocked and easy to get to. Would definitely love to stay there in the future again!
I have stayed at several VRBO places and this house was fully supplied for the guests from kitchen needs to linens and a large assortment of bathroom toiletries for guests use. We were very comfortable in this beautiful home and would stay there again.
This year we decided to vacation in the Southern Hills. The house met all are needs, and could not ask for a better location. I often reflect on my childhood vacation memories, and hopefully our grandchildren will add this year to their memories.
Home was lovely all the necessities were well stocked. Clean, comfy beds, plenty of room to move in. Enjoyed the deer and turkeys. Was located nicely for the places we wanted to see. Hiking, Custer State Park, shopping, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse the 1880 train. Relaxed on deck of an evening really nice place to stay.
Thank you to our host The Burgers!
It’s obvious why this home is continually rented out. It’s beautiful with all the amenities. Our family of ten felt it was set up perfectly for eating, sleeping, deck time, family time together on the main level and our teenagers to enjoy their fun activities in the lower spacious walkout level. We would rent this home away from home again.
We’ve stayed at many rental properties and this was one of the best places we’ve ever stayed. Set in a beautiful Black Hill backdrop, this house is equipped with EVERYTHING! It was fully stocked with everything you need. It’s a very short drive to Custer State Park and close to Mt. Rushmore. Great space for the kids to play. Very clean. If we ever come back, we will for sure rent again!
We had such a great time! The house was so clean. It was in a great location. Just a couple minutes from the town of Custer. About 10 minutes to Sylvan Lake, 25 to Mt. Rushmore, 15 to Crazy Horse and about 20 minutes to Hill City. The house was stocked with many amenities. It was in a quite neighborhood and easy to get to. Overall a great experience and somewhere we would come back to and recommend.
Lots of room for our large group, the rec room was a hit. We ended all our nights playing games together. Lots of “extra” supplies in case you forgot something from home. Labeled items made it easier to put things back in their correct spot. If I did have one teeny tiny suggestion, maybe have a dehumidifier available for downstairs. The bathroom got a bit moist after several people showered. But if we remembered to put the bathroom mats outside before we left for the day, it was just fine!
We would 100% stay here again! We absolutely enjoyed every minute
Our family (5 adults and two children ages 4 and 6) stayed in this house for 7 nights in July-August for our annual family vacation. When the online description of a rental place appears to be too good to be true, I'm usually very leery of it and expect it to turn out not as good as advertised. I was very pleasantly surprised (as was the rest of my family) when this house turned out to be even BETTER than advertised! The owners are extremely thoughtful as they have supplied it with everything a family could possibly need. Their attention to detail is amazing! All the drawers and cabinets are marked with descriptions of what they contain. The house was exceptionally clean when we arrived and is in a great location. I've scoured all Vrbo listings in the greater Custer area for the last 2 years, and this house is no doubt right at the top. I'm submitting this review, btw, right after booking it again for next year.
For the second year in a row, our family (5 adults and two children ages 5 and 8) stayed in this house for 7 nights in July-August for a family vacation. And for the second year in a row, we found the house to be well-worth its 5-star rating. As I wrote last year after our stay, the owners are extremely thoughtful as they have supplied it with everything a family could possibly need. All the drawers and cabinets are marked with descriptions of what they contain. The house was exceptionally clean when we arrived and is in a great location, 5 minutes or less from downtown Custer and probably 8 minutes from Custer State Park, on a fairly private wooded lot where you'll feel the kids are safe if they're outside playing. As for kids, the house and yard are so well equipped that the challenge is to get them to want to leave and go to the beach at Legion Lake or Sylvan Lake in CSP, or the other activities in CSP (our 8 year old granddaughter went on a 2-hour trail ride with her mom at Blue Bell Lodge), or fishing at one of the three lakes within 10 minutes of the house (for the 2nd year in a row I caught the largest trout). I've researched online and driven by many of the similar VRBO's in the Custer area, and none compare to this house. This is not, btw, a paid advertisement -- we don't know the owners and have never met them or talked with them on the phone. (P.S. The owners should write a book on how to successfully own and operate a VRBO....)
Location was great for daily excursions. The house was well stocked with anything you could need. A great house for large families to gather and enjoy the great outdoors of South Dakota.
House was very well equipped with modern appliances. we enjoyed the comfortable chairs and beds and got a kick out of seeing all the livestock walking around the area
Great location and great home. We had lots of fun in the game room and enjoyed seeing all of the deer in the evenings. Perfect Vacation Rental for families.
This house is absolutely beautiful and accommodated all of our needs. We loved having the use of the garage to park our motorcycle. We were close to all of the scenic rides and tourist sites. We would recommend this rental home to anyone.
This property was absolutely beautiful. The added amenities truly made it feel like home. Our kids loved the game room, especially the air hockey table. Definitely would recommend for anyone looking for a great place for their family to stay. We would stay again!
Beautiful organized home that was well stocked with everything you could need! It was perfect for 2 families with teens. The teens loved the downstairs bedrooms and game room. Just down the road from Custer State Park and Sylvan Lake. A great place to spend the day kayaking, paddle boarding, and hiking. Also close to Custer where we rented ATV’s at Adventure rentals. A great way to see the black hills! So much fun, we plan to make it a yearly trip!

About the host
Hosted by Stan & Shirley Burgers
We have always enjoyed vacationing in the Black Hills with our children over the years. As we near retirement we chose to build this home in the Custer area to be closer to our children and grandchildren who now line in Colorado.
Why they chose this property
We spent about 5 years searching for just the right place to build this home and hope you will enjoy it as much as we do. It is close enough to Custer, Hills City & even Rapid City for all of our needs, and yet secluded enough to provide the peace and quiet that we long for as we near retirement.
What makes this property unique
We do hope that you will enjoy your stay at our "piece of heaven" enough to return from time to time and to share what you liked about your stay with your friends and family.
