This was a wonderful getaway with my pup. The property is very dog friendly and the host is extremely attentive as well as accommodating. Quiet, cozy, and relaxing!
Perfect lower level studio stay for someone seeking a nice quiet location to stay about an hour outside of the Chicago area. Very clean and exactly as described. Very convenient to Skydive Chicago.
My dog and I stayed at this property so we could do some hiking at starved rock. The location was great and the scenery was fantastic. I loved the outdoor patio and the farm feel in the atmosphere. Inside we had plenty of space to relax. The kitchen was also beautiful and well stocked! The best part was that my dog was welcomed and she had everything she needed, two dog beds, a ball, food bowls, and a cage if she needed it. Next time we visit the area we will definitely be staying here again!

If you're a dog person the back yard is enormous and all fenced-in. Plenty of room for your pet to run and play. The lower apartment is quiet. We briefly meet the owner of the property. Very nice.
If you have a dog this space is perfect. The owner has thought of everything to make your 4 legged friend comfortable. For people, it was just good.
The first thing we noticed was the smell. Because this was a basement, it did smell like a basement. And on top of that was a strong dog smell. There was a dehumidifier and we immediately turned it on. The place had everything we needed. It was clean and quiet.

Overwhelming smell of dog urine
Attempted to spend one night with my dogs. Unfortunately due to the overwhelming smell of dog urine had to leave. Did not even stay an hour. Did not sit down or bring in clothing. Requested a refund. Owner directed me to contact vrbo.com. Please review all of the prior reviews.
Pros - easy communication with host, very pet friendly with a big yard, full kitchen.
Cons - this is a basement apartment as the listing stays, and it has a bit of a musty smell as basement apartments will have. You do have to walk through a part of the house to get to the apartment door. I would have preferred if this door had a lock or latch. There is a bit of clutter.
I needed somewhere to stay overnight that was not obscenely over priced, this was absolutely perfect for my needs. The location is close to I80, easy to find and spacious. My only wish is that the basement rental had a lock on the door at the top of the stairs.
Lisa's communication was outstanding from parking instructions to in unit info. Appreciated her understanding that I would be late arriving.
The unit is very spacious, a walk out basement. I was only there to sleep so I did not check out anything else on the property.
Thank you for the water and Nutragrain bar, it was very welcomed as I headed out at 5:15 am.
Lisa clearly took great care in preparing the space; we appreciated the little notes around on certain items telling us how to operate the TV, fireplace, etc. As some reviewers pointed out, yes it’s a studio in her basement, but I would like to add/clarify that while you do enter through her front door, your own doorway to the stairs leading down to the studio is all but 3’ from the doorway straight ahead, so it’s not as if you’re working your way awkwardly through the living room to get to your private space. Lisa also kept her distance due to COVID/privacy which we appreciated. Your own doorway (can’t enter by key but can exit) leads to the gazebo in the backyard and is a great little space. It was perfect to let our dog out. Overall was as advertised, clean, and Lisa as the owner was great to work with.
I spent 10 days here, and the property not only met but exceeded my expectations. The location is easy to access from I-80, but once there all you hear are the sounds of nature, and all you see are beautiful trees and landscaping. I enjoyed a well-designed efficiency apartment. The kitchen was equipped with everything I needed to make snacks, or even a full gourmet meal were I so inclined. However there are also excellent restaurants in the area (I highly recommend both the food and the wineries in Utica), as well as local specialties in the crossroads village of Norway. I am hoping to return again.
This place is a great getaway that’s affordable with all the amenities you will need. Close to Starve Rock and Ottawa.
We enjoyed our stay no distractions just tons of quiet and solitude. Nice to get away from the big city to a small nook that will certainly refr
Property was just like advertised. It was quiet and comfortable with all the furnishings, kitchen gear and even a washer/dryer. Perfect for a short or long term stay. Hostess was an excellent communicator and extremely flexible when my plans changed. Highly recommended.
It was a nice pleasant and cozy place. Everything was fine except for the smell in the water. It didn't stop us from showering or washing dishes, but we are just not used to water having a smell of sulfur. We know it isn't bad, it was just weird for us. Overall the property manager was great, while we didn't see them in person, we kept communication through the app. Very helpful.
We had a lovely stay. Everything we needed was there for us and we even got to enjoy some patio time in the sun! The bed is kinda small if you have two larger adults like my husband and I (he is 6'3" and I am 5'9" ane pregnant so taking up mpre room) but we made it work. Wifi seemed spotty too but we weren't there to be on the internet so that wasn't a huge issue. Close to Ottawa and State Parks which was great! Thanks for everything! We loved it.
We really enjoyed the rural setting and quiet nature of the property. Our host was gracious and funny and had provided many little things that made our stay enjoyable. We hope to book again in the future.
The owner of the property was very welcoming, gracious, available, communicative (but in no way invasive - just available if needed) and accommodating. The rental was no frills (our preference), had everything we needed, and was quiet and lovely. The price was extremely reasonable, the property and owner were very dog friendly, and check in and check out was organized and simple. This was the perfect place to stay for a few days for us to get away from Chicago and visit Starved Rock and Mattheissen state parks and canoe down the Fox river.
Lisa's LL studio apt. is clean, cozy + adorable w/an enormous yard + enchanting porch ! Stayed here so we could explore the waterfalls @ Mattheison State Park w/our dog. She gives you a property tour upon arrival + is friendly + helpful. She also has an aquarium we enjoyed watching + feeding the fish 😃 wish we could have stayed longer + hope to return in the future to view the various seasons
Lisa was a great host. I believe she went above and beyond to try and make us comfortable. It was an awesome place for my two dogs with plenty of room to run and play outside. Lisa even provided extra dog beds, towels, linens, and treats for the dogs. Location is close to Ottawa. Unfortunately, the listing of this property is not accurate. This is not a lower level apartment, this is the basement. It did not have its own separate entrance. You had to enter the owners house and then go down the basement stairs to enter the property. The door heading to the apartment (basement), had no lock on it. Although we felt completely safe, and our privacy was respected, it did not leave us with the separation we desired. The property was occupied by other people, albeit in a different section of the house. It felt more like renting a room in someone’s house than a true Vrbo rental. Also, the basement have a high moisture problem. That, combined with the carpet contributed to a musty odor. On a positive note, the dehumidifier that was provided help to dry the air decreased the odor considerably. We believe with fixing the humidity issue (or perhaps a larger dehumidifier) and removing the carpet, that may well help with the odor. To be a true apartment, there should a true separate entrance unrelated to the main house. This would make this listing go from good to great!

A very comfortable place to stay
Very friendly and accommodating owner. Unfortunately rained most of the time we were there, otherwise would have really enjoyed the patio area and the dog run. Pet friendly was also very appreciated. Great place to stay, hope we get to come back someday.
