About this property

Above wine shop! Near OSU/UO! Walk to Park/River, Tiered $ for 2-12 & 3 King

This 1908 Historic Loft is located in Brownsville Oregon, upstairs in the C.J. Howe Building. The Loft overlooks Oregon’s 3rd oldest pioneer town, which is the filming location for the 1980's Rob Reiner film Stand By Me as well as the site of the Linn Country Pioneer Picnic. Perfect for families, teams and group lodging.

Welcome to Brownsville! The Loft is only 30 minutes from Eugene, and the Calapooia River is a 2-minute walk away. There is plenty to do for such a small town.

Located just 4 miles off of Interstate 5 in the beautiful Willamette Valley, The Historic C.J. Howe Building Vacation Loft is centrally located to Willamette Valley Vineyards, the Oregon Coast, University of Oregon and Oregon State University.

The Loft has a keyless entry system to make things easy for everyone, so check-in is flexible if you decide to make the most of your trip in and head up after work. Your access code will send three days before arrival. It will be active the day of your arrival through departure.

Find yourself in the Past.......
Open the windows and dance across the old-growth, clearwood floors. Cozy up by the original 1908, wood burning fireplace and enjoy your surroundings, watch a movie, or better yet play a game or read a book. Set an adventurous agenda, or do nothing at all.

Previously a boarding facility for the railroad, the Loft's unique accommodations are perfect for large families and close friends: 2 king-sized beds, 1 queen, 2 twin trundle bed and 2 inflatable beds. We have to pinch ourselves every time we stay at this very special place... it is truly an amazing piece of history.

We look forward to sharing our family’s special retreat with you.

Please feel free to reach out with any further questions about the loft and I will be happy to answer!

There are a few restaurants, a small grocery store, and a park/river within walk distance. To all other major grocery stores and towns, a car will be needed there is no Uber/Lyft.

Brownsville Reunion

This was a great place for the 8 of us to stay! The hosts were very responsive to my text questions and the loft met every expectation. They have done a fantastic job of decorating and outfitting the unit for a guest's comfort. Would definitely stay there again!

Lovely loft in the heart of Brownsville! <3

A beautiful, big, well appointed loft with ons of space and right in the heart of downtown Brownsville. The loft had our connected bedrooms with space for at least eight, 1.5 bathrooms, a huge living room and kitchen, and TVs in most spaces, along with games, books, and even a foozball table. Truly a lovely space, great for gathering with family, and charming details throughout. One note - each set of two bedrooms don't really have doors between them, just curtains. That worked fine for us - late sleepers in the back, early birds in the front, and we were happy as clams, but families that need or want more privacy should be aware. There were doors between the living room/kitchen area and the bedroom space, which was helpful for letting us adults stay up late and not bother the earlier to bed kiddos. I loved how many windows there were and that you could look out at all of Brownsville from all around the space. It just felt like you were in the heart of everything - coffee shop a block away, Mexican restaurant around the corner, video store steps away, and a park behind! It feels like the kind of space that was once a home for owners of the commercial space below, and the current owners have done a good job ensuring it feels comfortable and in keeping with the town's vibe. Lots of antique decorations, rustic signs, and the most gorgeous hardwood floors. I'd love to stay here again, and really appreciate the owners welcoming people into such a lovely and well-located space.

Huge and cozy at the same time

The Loft exemplifies why we stay at VRBOs - a fantastic, unique place where you can feel like a local for a few days, trimmed out with endless nice touches because the owners stay there too. When we first arrived, it felt a little scary, because it was nighttime and the town is several empty miles off the interstate and seems abandoned at night. We hadn't expected the place to be so BIG! It went on and on - it would be a fantastic place for a large family to stay, but also a great place to film a ghost movie. If there's any knock at all against the place, it's that the floorboards creak so everyone knows if someone's walking around (inevitable for a lovely antique of a place like this) But in the morning, and every evening afterwards, everything was cozy and delightful - you can see the antique store across the way, there was so much space that we never were on top of each other like happens at a hotel, and little delightful touches (like discovering a rack of weights and a perfect place for yoga, or enjoying all the vintage signs on the wall, or reading the stories of previous guests) were everywhere. The laundry facility was really spacious - better washing machine than I have at home! And the town was fun to explore - I think we found something great at every shop, and friendly people to chat with. The drive to Eugene (U of Oregon) took about 30 easy minutes on a straight, quiet 2-lane highway and when the craziness of the homecoming game got rolling, we were glad to have somewhere to relax that was out of the traffic and noise. The host was friendly and easy to talk with, and getting in and out of the property (and parking) was an absolute breeze. All in all, we are super glad we stayed here and would happily stay again!

Girls trip

We made the loft our base for a mother/daughter trip to the World Track Meet Oregon 2022. We found the accommodations as depicted in the description. The owners were responsive to our emails prior to the stay and checkin and out was a breeze. The loft had any item you could think of needing supplied. The towels and wash clothes were plentiful. We enjoyed the little town of Brownsville especially Randy’s cafe, the Saloon and antique/gift shop across the street.

Cutest Loft Ever!

Great location to both OSU and UO! Huge, clean, and comes with everything you could possibly imagine needing while on vacation - you name it, it'll be in the storage room, laundry room, closet, or just open any random drawer or cabinet and find treasures! I was so very impressed with this property, I'd give it 100 stars if I could. Aloha and Mahalo from Hawaii!

Attended OSU Hall of Fame recognition last weekend with our family

This unit was perfect for our adult married children and their children. Huge common area and kitchen area and four bedrooms. The beds were very comfortable and every kitchen appliance you could think of was available. Our family plans on returning to the sleepy town of Brownsville- our teen age granddaughter asks grandma this is the best place ever, when are we coming back?

Super cool place

This is a one of a kind experience. Super cool property. We enjoyed the large open space. The only challenge was the bedrooms. If you stay in the back bedrooms, you have to walk through someone else’s room to use a bathroom or access the main living area.

So comfortable and charming!

We loved the loft! The Brownsville location was so charming, and it was an easy drive to OSU. The loft was both vintage and modern and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable, and the owners were friendly and answered all of our questions. Of course, we watched “Stand By Me” during our stay and we’re excited to see that the building had a couple of cameos in the movie! We had a great stay.

Rare, unique, rustic and beautiful

An older building, but has upgrades in all the right places. Modern appliances, updated kitchen and bath. Very clean. I was a little worried about pet or "old building" odors, but they were mild and nothing to complain about. The floors were creaky but that was no surprise. We would gladly stay again and bring some friends along with us. One note- there are two sets of "rooms" where you have to pass through the front bedrooms to access the back bedrooms. I'd consider it a two-family rental at most, if privacy is a concern. For a large family it's fantastic. Very spacious and wonderfully decorated. After two days I was still finding interesting things I hadn't noticed before. I didn't know the movie Stand By Me was filmed in Brownsville and they had the DVD there for us to watch. The building appears in the movie!

Christmas reunion

We loved the loft in the small city of Brownsville. It had a rustic charm; very comfortable and plenty of room for our family of 6 and our dog. We had several family members over to celebrate Christmas; the kitchen was well appointed for cooking and there was ample seating for eating and visiting. We would love to come back again soon!!

Exceeded our expectations

I would highly recommend staying at the C.J. Howe loft if you get the opportunity. It is extremely comfortable and has all the amenities that you could possibly need. The check in/out process was simple and the owner was available if we needed anything, which we did not. We travel frequently and really enjoyed the town and the accommodations.
