About this property

Charming Hillcrest/Mission Hills 3 BR + House

The most central location in San Diego; Great for families who want to take advantage of the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, Sea World, etc... as well as couples who may want to be close to downtown San Diego, Little Italy, the Harbor... walking distance to great Hillcrest and Mission Hills neighborhood coffee shops, bars, and restaurants. Remodel completed in Jan, 2022!
Person booking the home must be at least 25 years old.

Each of the three bedrooms have a queen size bed, large closets, and provide plenty of privacy. There is a fold-down futon in the living area. You will find a foam topper as well as linens and pillows in the small closet.
You will love the deck, where you can sit in the afternoon sun, or have a nice dinner under the lights.

There are two parking spots at the house. Tip: Back into the parking spots. This is a private, dead-end street, which is narrow, so backing in makes it easier to get out. If you have one vehicle, you will have no problem. If you have two, you will be fine, it will just be a little tight.

Please feel free to message us at anytime should you need anything.

Eats:
There are so many restaurants, all over San Diego, which you can find online. Below are a few of our favorites around the neighborhood. If you want other recommendations around town, don’t hesitate to message us.
There are a couple Starbucks, (3801 Fifth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103), as well as a Peet’s Coffee, (350 W University Ave, San Diego, CA 92103) very close, but we also like:
BCB Company Hillcrest: Cafe offering espresso drinks & smoothies, bagels and European-style bites, such as panini & crepes.
1010 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92103

Bread and Cie: Cafe/bakery offering artisanal French breads & pastries, plus sandwiches, salads & breakfast fare.
350 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92103

Snooze: Vibrant, retro chain serving a seasonal menu of creative breakfast & lunch fare, plus cocktails. Originally from Denver, they have established themselves as a great breakfast option right here in Hillcrest. Be prepared to wait, but you can enjoy a Bloody Mary while you do.
3940 Fifth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103

Hob Nob Hill: Restaurant serving generous portions of American comfort cooking in comfy, casual digs since 1944. The take reservations for breakfast, which is a plus on the weekends.
2271 1st Ave, San Diego, CA 92101

Sushi: All over San Diego you can find great sushi, some very expensive. For a very reasonable price, we like Sushi Deli.
228 W Washington St, San Diego, CA 92103

Pizza: If you want a quick slice, or even a whole pie, check out
Bronx Pizza: A simple menu of thin-crust pies & calzones lures longtime fans to this no-frills, cash-only joint.
111 Washington St, San Diego, CA 92123

Italian/Pizza-Traditional: Filippi’s Pizza Grotto in Little Italy. (It’s a local, family owned chain, but they aren’t all the same!)
1747 India St, San Diego, CA 92101

Italian: Parma - Cucina Italiana Convivial kitchen dishing up traditional Italian fare, plus afternoon coffee & snacks. Small, family owned and run. Everything we’ve had has been great.
3850 Fifth Ave, San Diego, CA 9210

French- Café Bleu: Very reasonably priced and close.
Charming venue serves French & New American fare plus boutique wines & bottomless mimosas at brunch.
807 W Washington St, San Diego, CA 92103

Farm-to-Table: Farmer’s Bottega, Country-chic bar & eatery preparing a new American farm-to-table menu for breakfast, lunch & dinner.
860 W Washington St, San Diego, CA 92103

Trendy: The Patio on Goldfinch
Sister spot to Patio on Lamont, this open-air eatery serves an eclectic menu from local produce.
4020 Goldfinch St, San Diego, CA 92103

Fried Chicken: The Crack Shack. Fun spot for chicken & egg dishes with stylish outdoor seating, a full bar & a bocce court. Cool bar scene in the evening but totally family friendly for lunch and early dinner.
2266 Kettner Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101

Breweries: San Diego has become the craft beer capital of the world, or so they say. We’re not going to even start with recommendations, as there are so many great ones, and lots very close. This should lead you in the right direction; www.sandiegobrewersguild.org

Other places to check out, not right in the neighborhood but still very close:
Liberty Station: This is the old Naval Training Center which has been converted into parks, restaurants, bars, movie theaters… www.libertystation.com
Little Italy: It’s not New York, but very nice. 10 blocks of restaurants, shops, galleries… just blocks from the harbor. www.littleitalysd.com
Old Town: Historic district with many Mexican Restaurants, shops, and galleries…
Kids: You know the Zoo and Sea World, but all of Balboa Park is great. Museums, restaurants, face painters, carousel…
New Children’s Museum. This is downtown. From creative classes to climbable sculptures, contemporary art for kids, in a bright, modern space.
200 W Island Ave, San Diego, CA 9210

Shopping: Fashion Valley Mall. If you’re looking for a mall, this is the one to go to. High-end stores as well as all the usual. AMC Theaters, PF Chang, Cheesecake Factory…

Coronado: Just go. Visit the Hotel del Coronado, the Ferry Landing, or walk through town. You can drive or take the ferry. One of the nicest beaches in the country. Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve: 2,000 acres of coastal state park located in the community of La Jolla, in San Diego, California, off North Torrey Pines Road.

Family and friend time

This home sits in a quiet neighborhood. We rented it because of its location--very close to some dear friends who live in SD and within walking distance to them and to nice neighborhood cafes and restaurants. For the most part, we ate out-but we had one meal in--seating 7 people comfortably around the table. The bedrooms were comfortable. The only difficulty with this home has to do with the small area for parking: if you have a car larger than a small sedan, you may have difficulty parking--because the home is located in a mews (tiny road) and the other homes are very close by, there is little turn-around room for a larger car. However, we walked most places and when we needed a car, we had use of a small sedan----so that worked out well.

Great property for family stay

The house was great for a vacation stay with our two teenage daughters. Light, airy and super clean. Close to all the attractions and neighborhoods we wanted to see. Plenty of room to spread out and relax. Short walking distance to restaurants, grocery and drug store. Host was very communicative and gave a lot of helpful details. Check in was easy. Parking a bit tight for two cars. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Cozy Home

The "Cozy Home" looks just like the pictures in the VRBO add. Modern tiled bathroom-shower. House full of amenities. Gas stove. Each bedroom has it's own T-Stat (AC-Htr) unit. Dedicated per bedroom. Quiet residential neighborhood. Close to Zoo and other attractions.

Perfect location for our son's wedding activities

This was a perfect house to accommodate our family members, from Japan, Arizona and Northern California. We had a great time! Our son got married in Mission Hills, had wedding related events nearby and the proximity worked out well. We used to live in this area for 30 years so we were familiar with the surroundings. The beds were comfortable. Bathroom between the master bedroom and the other bedroom was rather small for two parties but we managed. We didn't hear back where the iron and ironing board were (found them later). Kitchen was well stocked and breakfasts and lunch preps were done effortlessly. The skylights were nice but in the afternoon it added heat. Air conditioning worked well to cool off but when it became colder at night in need of heat we had a bit of a hard time getting it going. We have a big van and it took some skill to back into the parking, but you get used to it. Made a few trips to the airport which was close and convenient. Nice quiet neighborhood. Owners were attentive and easy to communicate; the house rules were easy to follow. Thanks!
