About this property

Port Sanilac Log Cabin--Incredibly Cute!

Warm, cozy, and charming 2 bedroom (plus loft), 1 bath genuine 100+ year old authentic log cabin! Sleeps 6 in beds and 2 more on a queen sofa pull-out couch.

Unplug and enjoy getting away! Just a short 3 minute walk to the fantastic Lake Huron beach. Situated off the beaten path, on a gravel road surrounded by pine trees with a grassy side yard for outdoor play. Just located 1 ½ hour drive from metro Detroit in the beautiful “Thumb”, this is the up north escape you've been looking for, minus the 4+ hour drive up I-75. Here’s your chance to unplug and enjoy. This log cabin, a throwback to simpler times but with some creature comforts, will allow you to unplug from cable and WiFi and enjoy the simpler things a vacation has to offer. No, there is no WiFi or cable TV at the cabin! Lake Huron, games, puzzles, books, toys, and much more are there to help you relax and reconnect with your family.

Situated just a short walk (5 driveways) on a gravel road to the incredible Lake Huron "Gold Coast" sandy beach and park. Walk into the front door of this 800 square foot cabin from the 9x21 foot front deck and you'll instantly feel relaxed and content with its hardwood floors, knotty pine walls, log beam ceilings and charming atmosphere. The 12 x 14 living room features 2 couches (one is a queen-sized sleeper sofa), a ceiling fan. This is an authentic log cabin and as such, there is no central heating or central air conditioning. There is a newer gas log fireplace that keeps this cabin warm and cozy on chilly nights; and 2 ceiling fans, several tower fans, and a window air conditioner to keep you cool in the summer.

The well-appointed kitchen features an electric cooktop, sink, beautiful custom wood cabinets, fully stocked with pots/pans, flatware, dishes, glasses; small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and toaster, waffle iron, crockpot, skillet, toaster oven, hand mixer, and blender. The dinette is surrounded by windows overlooking the beautiful pine trees. There are 2 bedrooms and a sleeping loft, with blankets, sheets and pillows. The main bedroom has a queen-sized bed with two night stands and a supplemental heater, just in case; the second bedroom has 2 bunk beds. The loft is accessible by a wooden ladder and has a queen-sized mattress. Because of the low head room and the ladder access, this area is perfect for adventurous kids. The sofa in the living room pulls out to a queen-sized bed. The bathroom (toilet and sink) is separate from the shower/dressing room and storage.

The log shed on the property stores stack chairs, 2 bicycles and a tandem bike (and a hand air pump in case the tires need air) , beach toys, and a wagon for your convenience to take toys to the beach, plus additional storage. A 6 x 10 deck is on the north side of the cabin, ideal for reading a book and hearing the whispering of the wind in the pine trees and waves of the mighty Lake Huron. Other amenities: 5 minute walk to Willis Market (grocery store); Port Sanilac shopping, marina, and restaurants are a short distance away; city water, ceiling fans in the living area and bedroom. There is an outdoor shower off the back porch to rinse the sand off after a day of playing at the beach or outside. The living room features a flat screen TV with Blu-ray DVD player, the main bedroom has a flat screen as well. Please note: there is no cable/satellite TV, internet/WiFi at the cabin. Cellular coverage will vary by provider.

The log cabin is an ideal get away for a couple or a family for a long weekend or a longer vacation.

***We wish you a fantastic time "unplugged" and enjoying all that the Thumb area and Lake Huron has to offer. Please be advised that for the 2024 season, we will be continuing to take additional precautions and cleaning protocols to make every effort to provide a safe environment for you and your family.*** We work very hard to keep our log cabin nice. Please respect our property and treat it as if it is your own.

Log Cabin

I rented the cabin for a couple days during the week. The cabin was very charming and plenty of room for 5 people. The property description said there was WIFI but was told before I checked in that there wasn't any internet. Cell service in that area was bad for Verizon. We used the gas fireplace until we realized there wasn't any vents to expel the carbon monoxide from the cabin. We looked for the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors but couldn't find them. My nephew was sleeping in the loft above the front bedroom so I was really concerned about the gases from the gas fireplace, we ended getting a couple electric space heaters from an old friend to stay warm. I think my experience would have been five stars if it had been during the summer time instead of the fall. I would recommend this as a good place to stay as long as it's rented in the summer months.

Girls' Vaca

Loved the experience even though we picked the coldest weekend. One downer, though, is that my daughter was excited to make us an overnight baked French Toast brunch and all was made and then we noticed no oven! :( Don't know if it was specifically noted with all the details but if not, might want to specifically bullet: - NO OVEN. But we made all work. Would book again.

The most cozy and beautiful place

For us as Europeans, this cabin was so wonderful cozy and retro American. This is what we came for to the US! We traveled around for 5 weeks and our last stop was here by the lake in Michigan. We were lucky with the nice weather and spend almost a week on the public beach online 5 minutes walk from the cabin. The cabin is fully packed with everything you need to have a good time. Bicycles, a small cart to take a lot of stuff to the beach with, DVDs to have movie night, BBQ and fireplace outside, airconditioning in the master bedroom. Just a wonderful place and experience. We had some questions for the owner and she was very friendly and responded quickly. Would love to come back here some day!

We loved staying in this cute cabin. Reminded us of the one we grew up in. It was hot when we were there and it stayed nice and cool. They had everything we needed. The beach was close and so much fun!

Family vacation

Cozy little log cabin, neat and clean. Location is great walking distance to beautiful beach. It happened to be pretty hot the two days we were there so the cabin got a little hot since there is no central air but the back bedroom was nice and cool due to window air condition. Also neat deck with nice chairs and beautiful flowers.

Relaxing family trip

Our visit was excellent!!. The cabin is clean, organized, and authentic. Just enough space for our family of four. Georgous Lake Huron is just a short 2 minute walk away. We loved the wagon. beach chairs, and beach toys that were supplied. The kids had so much fun exploring the beach and finding petosky stones. They found a nearby creek along the beach and caught crayfish! We had delicious pizza at the nearby Applegate Inn, and enjoyed ice cream in Port Sanilac. The kids loved the bunk beds and the master bedroom was cozy (especially with the air conditioning unit in the window.) Highly recommend for unplugging and connecting with your family or loved ones.

We would come again because of the location and cleanliness. Lake Huron is beautiful. The cabin was perfect. Floors are slippy when wet, bathroom especially- be careful. We loved it and will book again.

Adorable getaway

My family had a great stay at this cute cabin. It’s cozy but that was nice. My kids are 7 and 4. The 4 year old slept on the bottom bunk, the 7 year old in the loft. The top bunk doesn’t have a guard rail so probably best for older kids who don’t flop much! I had been worried about just one unit AC in the back room being available but with the windows open the breeze really gets the cabin cool . We hardly needed it (and I get hot easy so I was surprised). We walked to the nearby beach every day and also took the short drive to Lexington for their beach and a longer drive up the coast to the “Tip of the Thumb” at Port Crescent State Park, which has a really lovely and large beach. The lake is just gorgeous, and the water clear (and cold!) and low to no waves, perfect for littles. I would recommend water shoes as some of the beaches are pebbly. My kids enjoyed running around the outside of the cabin as well. They didn’t want to leave! We got to spend some nice time as a family and evenings reading since cell service was spotty and there was no streaming, which was honestly one of the reasons we chose it!

Wedding Visit

Great cabin. A true cabin experience just like when I was a kid spending summers on he Great Lakes. Not on the beach unfortunately but great place. Might not be for everybody but awesome fir sitting around the fire, playing board games and in our case, very near to our wedding venue. No wifi so not good if you need to work but great if you want to tune out.

Cozy cabin getaway

This cabin has a lot of charm and was well stocked with many towels, dishes, DVDs, etc. Check in was easy. It is smaller than it looks in the picture but still had a lot of space and was comfortable for our family of four. I can see us coming back. The closest public beach area is quite small, and we preferred the main beach in Port Sanilac by the boat launch, but even that is not too far away.

Cute, quaint, cozy cabin

We enjoyed our stay! Read the welcome emails carefully, they are full of lots of important details. Cool (almost hidden) loft that the kids loved. It’s hot up there in the summer, but the fan helps. First toilet flush, you have to push the flusher down pretty hard to overcome the suction, but it works. Be sure to turn the hot water switch on as soon as you arrive as it takes awhile to heat up and work. Back bedroom nice and cool with fan. Fun games and cards to play. Kitchen area is small but well stocked. Even has a griddle and waffle maker, so bring some mix! Quirky locks on some of the doors, made me feel nervous about getting stuck in rooms. Nickie was AMAZING with communication and checked on us often via text. Beach nearby within walking distance has some nostalgic playground equipment. Overall, a great stay. Kids want to come back! Thanks Michael & Nickie!

Great stay!

We wanted a cozy simple home and that’s what we experienced, seamless and as expected. The back room has the air conditioning, so it takes a while to adjust temp in house, but it eventually does. Also it may require ear plugs for those people who sleep in that room😉 Deck was perfect for visiting etc…would stay again!

About the host

Hosted by Michael Fellberg and Nicolette Kowal

Host profile image
Your hosts have been weekending and vacationing in the Thumb area for many years and currently own a home several miles north of the cabin.

Why they chose this property

The "sunrise coast" of Michigan has that "up north" feel and is far enough away from the metro Detroit area without the long drive and traffic of most "up north" Michigan destinations. Walk the sandy beach looking for petoskey stones and beach glass, skip stones, paddle, and swim in the blue water or go fishing. Shopping, golf, museums, farmers market, theatre, restaurants, wineries and area attractions are near by.

What makes this property unique

This genuine 100 year log cabin is well maintained and has the amenities so you can relax in comfort and enjoy the lake breezes whispering through the mature pine trees on the property. It is warm and welcoming from the moment you pull up and enter the cabin. And it's incredibly cute!!
