If you want to get away from it all, relax and simply enjoy the beauty of Madeira's dramatic coastline, then Villa do Mar is the perfect choice. Situated in Fajã Do Mar, where temperatures never drop below 19ºC, 30 metres above the deserted pebble beach, this idyllic, this character 3 bedroom air-conditioned villa is a veritable oasis and the ultimate holiday retreat, ideal for holidays with friends and family.
The outside space is fantastic and the views will take your breath away. The doors from the lounge open on to the wooden terrace which surrounds the front area of the villa, with outdoor dining facilities and a built-in barbecue. The garden is large with a variety of indigenous plants and palm trees and leads down to the sunny swimming pool area, with sun loungers and parasols. The perfect spot to relax with a glass of wine and watch the beautiful sun sets.
Steps lead down to the main door, which leads to the hall and open-space lounge dining room overlooking the garden. The quirky but fully equipped kitchen wraps around the old bread oven chimney.
The master bedroom, with en-suite bathroom, and one of the twin rooms, has direct access to the garden, and the third bedroom has a balcony with sea view. The second and third bedrooms can be made up as a double bed or two single beds. The mezzanine above the lounge has 2 single beds - ideal for children.
The villa is secluded and off the beaten track and accessed via a narrow steep driveway. Villa Do Mar I has been the home to many a happy holidaymaker for the past couple of years. It was originally built and used as the owner's summer retreat.
There are many walks around Calheta and easy access to the plateau of Paul da Serra, with its many levada walks, makes this villa perfectly located for walking in Madeira and for enjoying a lovely holiday surrounded by the beautiful Madeira countryside.

A lovely little beach hut is located right on the rocky beach 30 metres below, and shared by, the three Villas do Mar.
Access is via a pathway with steps that leads from the level of the Villas do Mar down to the beach. A front terrace with sunbeds, outdoor shower and built-in barbecue and large table (seating for 16), is complemented with a kitchen (fridger, 4-ring hob) and toilet.

The swimming pool is heated by solar panels. Electric swimming pool heating is optional and costs, 140€ per week for a setting of 24ºC, paid in cash on arrival. A supplement of 20€ per week applies for each additional degree setting up to a maximum of 26ºC
Pool heating can be provided and should be requested at least one week in advance. Should it be requested after arrival at the villa, the minimum charge applicable is one week, which is payable from the time the heating is turned on.

Cleaning and linen change is provided every 7 days.
All linen and towels are provided, including towels for the swimming pool.
Car hire is essential as the villa is located just above sea-level at the bottom of the cliff. As the access is narrow and steep, for your comfort you should hire a smaller size car.
Nearby
Madalena do Mar is a small village located on the southwest coast of the island with beautiful sea and cliff views. Its name came from the legendary Polish Prince of the 15th century, Henry Allemão. He lost a battle in 1444 and was given land by João Gonçalves Zarco and established a great-populated farm where he built a chapel and dedicated to the Saint Mary Madeleine.
It is a characteristic fishing village with a beautiful promenade along the pebble beach. Its location and accompanying climate has helped it to establish the biggest banana plantations on the island.
There are several restaurants for lazy lunches or evenings out.
Calheta with its man-made golden beaches is popular with tourists and locals alike. There is a beautiful marina and a selection of bars and restaurants.
Calheta is famous for producing the best white rum ‘Aguadente’, a special ingredient of the typical Madeiran drink ‘Poncha’. If you are interested in knowing how the white rum is made, we recommend a tour of the ‘Engenho da Calheta’ the rum distillery where you can wander around and sample the produce.
Centro das Artes Casa da Mudas is a new centre located at the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea and was built to host superb art exhibitions, musical performances and other events.
Within 15 minutes DRIVE are the beaches at Ponta do Sol and Ribeira Brava, the esplanades at the surfing paradises of Jardim do Mar and Paul do Mar.
An easy 30 minute drive takes you to Funchal.
The beautiful Madalena do Mar is the nearest village along the coast. Known for its long bay, wonderful climate and for producing the best bananas on the island, it has a selection of cafés and restaurants, a lovely promenade and partially sandy beach.

The rental value varies with the number of people occupying the property, so please ensure you enter the correct dates, number of adults, children and infants. Please note that supplements apply should additional people join you for any length of time.
A security deposit of 200€ or £200 is payable on arrival in cash. This is returned should there be no breakages or damage to the property.
To secure your reservation we require a 30% deposit, or the full amount if you are arriving within 8 weeks. The balance is due 8 weeks prior to arrival.
For check-ins after 23h, a late check-in fee is charged of 30 euros, that needs to be paid in cash on arrival.

The payment of a Tourist Tax has been implemented for all arriving visitors on or after 01 October 2024 across all of Madeira and Porto Santo by the local Municipalities.
This applies to all visitors to Madeira aged 13 or over, and costs 2€ per person per day up to a maximum of 14€ per person.
Your accommodation is responsible for collecting these amounts and paying them on your behalf to the applicable municipality.

If you have a car and are driving to your villa or apartment, please follow these instructions. Using GPS will take you via old and less easy roads and unusual locations:
Leaving the airport take the motorway (Via Rápida) West in the direction of Funchal and after this to Ribeira Brava. Travel for 34. Km.
When you reach the end of the motorway (approximately 35 minutes) keep on the right hand lane and follow the signs to Ribeira Brava – Ponta do Sol.
The slip road will lead you to a roundabout. Take the first exit to Ribeira Brava and drive towards the sea for 1,4Km. You will reach another roundabout. Take the 1st exit into the tunnel and you will now carry on for 3,9Km until you reach the roundabout of Ponta do Sol.
At the end of the tunnel you will reach another roundabout, take the 2nd exit to your right and continue along the coastal road.
At the following roundabout, take the 2nd exit, to Madalena do Mar.
At the end of the tunnel at the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and you will be in village of Madalena do Mar.
Drive along the coastal road and at the end you will see a parking at your left. Please stop there and you will be met and shown the way to the villa.
