About this property

Harts Desire Serene Getaway with Water Views

Located 12 miles west of Port Angeles on Freshwater Bay. GREAT LOCATION in the Countryside! Easy access to the western side of the Olympic Peninsula. Perfect location for solitude, with fresh air, gorgeous views and 5 acres of nature.

This magical place has deep roots in the area. Cleared and settled in or around 1900 by a gentlemen named Howard Hart who was born in Port Crescent, Washington Territory in 1880. He proceeded to plant fruit trees on the property that are now over 100 years old. The gorgeous views of Freshwater Bay and the Strait of Juan de Fuca from the home feature spectacular sunsets.

Comfort and plush quality furnishings await you. The owner's have done a lovely job of outfitting their home. Wonderful linens, and a Chef's kitchen with everything you will need for preparing your meals. Cable TV/DVD & free WIFI. It has a washer, dryer and a dishwasher.

Great family location for mountain biking, and kayaking, plus a private pedestrian beach access road where you will enjoy an incredible unspoiled beach for beach combing. The beach is ever changing with parts being sandy, cobbled and rocky.

Birder's, you will spot an ever changing inventory of our little feathered friends. Wonderful scenery for photography and journaling. Sea kayaking is also an option to enjoy at Freshwater Bay, either bring your own or rent them in Port Angeles to use during your stay.

Make Hart's Desire a destination for you and your friends, as once there, you will not want to leave.

Note that the Wifi connection could be spotty due to the location of the property.

12 minutes to Salt Creek Rec Area, where you can picnic on the flat beach, launch a kayak or go tide pooling.

4 minutes from Freshwater Bay to enjoy fishing, boating, crabbing, birdwatching, and picnicking.

13 minutes from Elwha River for wildlife viewing and boating.

convenient lodging

The interior was homey and the floorplan worked well for our stay. Unfortunately, the exterior has been very neglected. The deck and the outside table are so deteriorated that can't be used. The tree branch at the entrance was so overgrown that it was difficult to drive through without scratching my vehicle. This property could be so much more beautiful if more care was given.

Beautiful Home Base for Olympic National Park

This was a wonderful spacious home in a beautiful private setting with an amazing view ( when the clouds cleared 😃). It made a great base for all of our adventures around the park. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen is huge, and had everything we needed. Just a great place to stay!

Beautiful home overlooking the coast

We loved our stay here- peaceful, clean, awesome deck with views of the water, wide open kitchen with everything we needed to cook at home, laundry was a great bonus. As with most properties on the peninsula, it is a ways from Port Angeles so you just need to think ahead for groceries or if you want to eat out. That's why I gave it a 4 star for location. The deck is so awesome we had breakfast and dinner at home often. It is centrally located for Olympic National Park attractions. The peninsula is huge and roads are rural so no matter where you stay you'll have to drive.

Olympic peninsula retreat

There were four of us getting together since last fall. The house was perfect for us. We loved the view and the privacy of the location. Our only complaint was that the knives in the kitchen were in need of an upgrade. Most of them were steak knives and dull.

Beautiful waterfront views

The views from the deck and main rooms of the house were magnificent, especially sunrise. The house sits up on a bluff so you can see Canada when it's clear. One morning, we had a bald eagle fly right over the house. The house is in the country west of Port Angeles. The area was very quiet, away from traffic or city noise but within 10-15 minutes of grocery stores, etc. There was a glitch with the code access on our arrival, but the rental service called us back right away to fix it. There was also a mishap with floor cleaning in the turnover before our stay that they sent someone out to fix the next day. I would say the host was responsive to our needs, and the cleaning person they sent out was lovely. The host includes a pair of pretty decent binoculars which was great because I once again forgot ours. There is a well-stocked library and I assume the TV works great, but we never bothered turning it on. The picture windows provided enough entertainment for us!

Stunning View

Hart’s Desire has a beautiful view and lots of room. It is close to Olympic National Park and Port Angeles. The lower cleanliness rating was given because of a few issues upon arrival. We believe, based on other reviews, that it is usually very clean. The property manager has offered to refund our cleaning fee to rectify our situation. We recommend the following places to visit: Hurricane Ridge and the Hurricane Hill hike, Sol Duc Falls, the Hoh Rainforest trails, Cape Flattery, Rialto Beach at low tide, and Butchart Gardens in Victoria, B.C. We are sure you will enjoy the home, gorgeous setting, and, hopefully, visits from deer!

Exceeded Expectations!

The views from this home were even better than I had anticipated based on the photos, and the property felt very peaceful. The beds were comfortable, especially the pillows. The home was spacious, with high ceilings and plenty of room in the common areas. I appreciated the fast and thorough communication of the hosts. The only thing we were lacking was a good cutlery set in the kitchen. Overall, a fantastic rental that we would not hesitate to return to.

Port A Relaxation Paradise

Perfect for quiet getaways with family or reconnecting with a spouse, we had a great time at this property. We spent 5 days here in Port Angeles as a launching point for ONP before taking the ferry to Victoria and on to Vancouver. The 15 ish minute drive from town to the house was gorgeous and wooded, with a great view of the mountains. Coffee on the porch each morning listening to the birds and watching the water was the best! I didn’t move from the deck until 2 the first afternoon it was so beautiful. All the normal amenities were provided and completely sufficient to our needs. Hosts were wonderful and communicated well with us when needed. I would stay here again the next time we plan on visiting the area — and I do plan on returning again. There’s a ton to do.

Paradise! I didn’t want to leave!

This property is situated beautifully up above freshwater bay on the Strait of Juan Fuca. It’s incredibly peaceful and quiet. A deer visited our yard each day and the bird song from the deck is lovely! We had the best time visiting tide pools at freshwater Bay, hiking Sol Duc and Marymere. We visited the whole rainforest and Crescent Lake. We went whale watching and took the ferry over to Victoria. It really felt like the trip of a lifetime and the incredible beauty of this property definitely added to that feeling. This house is laid out really smart. The incredible picture windows face all the outdoor natural beauty. The mudroom is situated just right for coming in from Olympic Penninsula adventures. It is stocked well.

Wonderful Vacation Home

The home was clean and comfortable. We had all the space we needed to spread out and enjoy our time together. The home is located on a beautiful setting with a view of the water. We saw an eagle and a deer and various birds. We were so pleased and would definitely come again!

Great place to stay

My family just spent a week in Port Angeles. We chose this home and we are so glad we did. It was in a wonderful location that included a nice view of the water and we even had some deer visiting us. The home was clean and well stocked. We didn’t have any interaction with the owners because we didn’t need to. There’s a pretty good chance we’ll be coming back next year and this will definitely be our location of choice. Thank you.

Beautiful location and very quiet amd peaceful

We have never experienced a cleaner or better maintined house than this one. Its location is perfect for all that Mt Olympic has to offer. Only suggestion - The views of Freshwater Bay could be better if they trummed trees and bushes around the house. We really enjoyed our stay and would come again to this property. Also - the property managers are responsive and easy to communicate with.

Peaceful area

We used this as our home base while exploring Olympic National Park, and it was a great place to come back to at the end of a busy day. The house has an open floor plan which was more spacious than we thought it would be. Plenty of room for 3 couples. Gorgeous view of the Strait from the deck!
