About this property

Cozy Hideaway in Historic Bankers Hill Location

Summary:
Steps from Balboa Park and minutes to Little Italy, downtown, and the bay, this Bankers Hill cottage is your perfect San Diego escape. Enjoy a cozy queen bed, a full kitchen, and a charming shared front yard with orange trees. Located under the SAN airport flight path, plane noise may occur, but soundproof windows help keep things peaceful. Comfort, charm, and convenience in one ideal location!

The Space:
Tucked away in one of San Diego’s most charming neighborhoods, this cheerful Bankers Hill cottage is the perfect place to land between city adventures. Surrounded by orange and lemon trees, and just blocks from Balboa Park, Little Italy, the Zoo, and the vibrant Gaslamp Quarter, you’ll be in the heart of it all while still enjoying a peaceful, homey vibe.

Inside, the space is cozy and functional, ideal for couples, solo travelers, or small groups. The cottage features a comfy queen bed, a futon sofa for extra guests, a smart TV for cozy nights in, and a fully stocked kitchen with everything you need to whip up a meal or reheat your takeout from one of the many amazing local spots nearby. Coin-operated washer and dryer are available for you at the laundry room.

Out front, there’s a shared grassy yard, great for sipping morning coffee under the citrus trees or letting your pup enjoy some fresh air. Yes, we’re dog-friendly too!

A heads up: the home is located directly beneath the SAN airport flight path, so you will hear planes during active flight hours. However, we’ve added soundproof windows that make a huge difference in reducing the noise. It’s all part of the local charm—and watching the jets soar overhead can be a pretty cool sight!

Since the cottage is at ground level and surrounded by greenery, ants may occasionally pop in if food is left out—nothing major, just something to be mindful of during your stay.

This spot makes it easy to walk, bike, or scooter around town—whether you’re hitting up the Saturday farmers market in Little Italy or catching sunset at the marina. With a welcoming layout, unbeatable location, and a few unique quirks that make it feel real and lived-in, this cottage offers the San Diego experience with heart.

disappointed

Shower blinds broken, no privacy! Blinds kept falling when tried to use them. No porch light for night use coming in late. Garbage all around front door, heat turns on all by itself. NO way is this property should be a part of VRBO!

Such a great place

We loved this cute little cottage. It’s located in such a convenient location, everything is close by! There is a dog park 4 minutes away, so many restaurant options, and friendly neighbors. I would most definitely like to stay here again when I come back to SD! 10/10 would recommend.

Needs more supplies

Great location (you just have to get used to the airplane noise). The only complaint - the unit needs more supplies (more bath towels, coffee filters, salt/pepper, sugar for coffee, dish towels). Otherwise a very good visit.

Interesting stay, convenient location

The location of the property is central and without traffic only 15 minutes from Mission Beach (which is why we were visiting). The listing indicates that this is in the direct flight path of the San Diego airport. Sure is! All you have to do is look up and you’ll see the bottom of a plane flying right over...so close you feel like you could reach up and touch them. (They stopped flying somewhere around 11:00 pm.) Parking is a nightmare if you’re not good at parallel parking, and spaces are extremely limited. The cottage is quaint and welcoming. Dogs are allowed and that worked out great. There is a courtyard for them to potty and it’s gated so they can’t run off. We arrived around noon (requested 12:30 check in)and after driving around for 20 minutes waiting for someone to leave so that we could park, I finally just double parked to go and see if the place was ready for us. I had been in contact with the owner via text to confirm 12:30 check in and conveyed that this was our intention. Upon arrival there was a very nice guy cleaning named Tony. He advised he was not ready for us yet as he was not aware we had requested early check in. He said he’d be about 30 minutes. Fortunately in the time it took to find this out a space opened up that I didn’t have to parallel park in (it was on the corner so I could just pull in, I’m terrible at parallel parking!). We waited around until 1:30 before we could unload the car. We were not charged the customary early check in fee of $50 which was gracious, and despite a few things that need to be addressed this is actually a good place to stay. Things that need immediate attention: The shower curtain needs replaced in the tub. It’s ripped at the top and is basically pointless. The queen mattress needs to go to the dumpster. (Literally folding in half.) It was humid during our stay and with no ac quite uncomfortable (we’re from Arizona where we don’t deal with humidity). We ended up going to Lowe’s and buying a fan. Although that helped we still had to keep the widows open. Unfortunately this allowed the neighbors marijuana aroma to waft into our cottage. We don’t smoke it so this was quite annoying, and I’m positive that they were up all night as I did not sleep through the night and could hear them having a good time. This is the first time that we have stayed inland when coming to San Diego and location is key. That being said, with the issues I couldn’t imagine staying here more than a day or two at max.
