Unresponsive and avoid
Let me start by saying I’m a completely reasonable tenant. I’ve used VRBO to stay in Gulf Shores several times either through myself or through family members handling the reservation. Never once have we encountered ANY issue. However with this reservation we encountered several. All of the issues we encountered were eventually resolved, however not in a timely manner.
When you are on vacation time is of the essence. If you encounter an issue it needs to be communicated when it will be resolved, so that you can plan your day or week accordingly.
1. When we arrived the pool was filthy, so much so that we wouldn’t let our children swim in it. No big deal, we will call management and they will send someone right away. We would’ve just handled the issues ourselves, but there was no equipment available to do so. Finally after 36 hours and being threatened with a charge back, management got someone out to clean the pool. It was so filthy it took nearly 3 hours to get it cleaned properly by a professional pool maintenance company. We essentially lost two days of our vacation since we planned on using the first half of the week as pool days.
2. When we arrived and unpacked, we noticed one of the beds was covered in sand and hadn’t been changed. There was no way housekeeping actually changed the sheets. This is where my 3 year old son was sleeping so we stripped the sheets and used some of our own comforters. Management had housekeeping come the next day, but this is still unacceptable.
3. On the 4th day, my dad caught a Cottonmouth SNAKE by the pool. He bravely trapped the snake in a bucket by the pool. Since this is an EXTREMELY poisonous specifies, we wanted to have the property cleared properly to ensure there wasn’t a nest anywhere nearby. I called management and they assured me someone would be out as soon as possible. We waited for 3 hours for animal control to come handle the situation. Keep in mind this was a 3 foot long poisonous snake. When animal control finally showed up, one of the property managers showed up shortly after. He said “when I got a note about a pest incident, I assumed bugs or cockroaches”. What a slap in the face.
Long story short, I will never rent from Southern Rentals again. I’m not a hard person to please, but I felt like my complaints weren’t heard, or treated with any urgency.
I’m not trying to get anything out of this review, I just want to prevent this from happening again.
