About this property

‘The Blue House’ a spacious 5 bedroom beach front home with magnificent views.

“The Blue House” is a wonderful vacation home located on the beautiful island of San Salvador, Bahamas. Just steps from the beach and centrally located on an island that is packed with history, adventure and fun! The Blue House is spacious and comfortable. Its large open living room with vaulted ceiling and three sliding glass doors which opens to its huge deck overlooking the beach and its clear turquoise waters provides the most spectacular views and sunsets. The 1200 sq ft beach front deck has a large picnic table and a gas barbecue to enjoy many meals outdoors. Some lounge chairs are also available to you to relax . The master bedroom overlooks the ocean with sliding glass doors opening to the deck. Off the Master bedroom there is a full bathroom and a second bedroom with two twin size beds , perfect for couples with small kids. On the second floor there are three more bedrooms and three bathrooms , two master bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and one small bedroom with a bunk bed as well as another full bathroom. The kitchen is very spacious and bright and has most of things we have at home, stove, dishwasher , a laundry area with washer and drier as well as all small appliances, blender , mixer , coffee maker , toaster etc
Despite not being luxurious , the Blue House has all one needs for most enjoyable and memorable vacation as our family has had for many years !
Happy to share our paradise with you !
The location is completely private although convenient to the airport and to the little Cockburn Town for shopping etc . We also have a small grocery store walking distance for emergency needs !

San Salvador access Information: San Sal, as it is called by locals and regular visitors, has an airport with a large runaway to support landing and taking off of large jet planes. We have two jets weekly coming directly from France and one from Canada .From Nassau ( from a US departure point), US Airways has good deals usually, also Jet Blue , American Airlines, United, Delta sometimes have good offers. Once in Nassau Bahamas Air has one daily flight from Nassau to San Sal , you have to check for their daily schedule since they leave at different times depending on the day of the week and this also changes for different times of the year ( high season etc ) . Flights from Nassau to San Sal are about 50 min
Bahamas Air also has a direct flight from Miami to San Sal on Saturdays only in high season.

Getting around San Sal: San Sal has several historic sites being the first landfall of Christopher Columbus' fleet. It also has the last of the manually kerosene operated Lighthouses of the Bahamas, a truly special and nostalgic piece of history brought by the British. The views from the top of the lighthouse are not to be missed. There are also caves, ruins from old plantations and cays on the northern tip where the San Salvador Iguanas live, these species are native to the area and can only be found here. Bird life is also abundant with San Sal having many salt water lakes. San Sal is served by Queens Highway which runs its entire circumference, about 60 miles. For that reason, to explore sites like the lighthouse and others, a car or a scooter is recommended (both can be easily rented) or you can take an island tour with one of the tour guides.

Secluded paradise and the perfect adventure
This was an amazing trip for us. 2 adults with 3 kids (14). Excellent advice from the owner on what to bring along. Amazing care from the caretaker just down the road. Getting to/from the island can be an adventure but once there you feel at home since everyone knows everyone. People were so welcoming and nice and willing to help with anything we asked for. We had our own car and met the caretaker at the airport who then guided us to the house to get set up. She was available to assist with any issues and even got us some fish and lobster to cook! This home is roomy and has an amazing back deck, view and straight access to the beach at any time. All the amenities of home and we were able to purchase more things on the island we needed. We snorkled right off the beach and took lots of walks. Water was very calm first few days and as the wind picked up we had huge waves the last day. We loved the absolute seclusion as we had the beach to ourselves but were able to go to the small stores just a few minutes away if we wanted to see people. We took drives around the island as well. I have been to many carribean spots but this place and this water color is special and we have plans to return!

Simply Amazing!!!
Our stay at the Blue House was amazing. The house was just as described by Flavia and met our groups needs. The kitchen was big enough for multiple people to be in there cooking. The beach was perfect and beach toys and bikes made the stay even more enjoyable. Would highly recommend for small and large groups alike. We will definitely be returning on future trips to San Salvador.

A great Hideway
The "Blue House" is a great hideway. If you have been searching for the "back of beyond" and a peaceful time, you have found it. The house itself is very large and inviting with cathedrale ceilings in the living-room. It has all the amenities for those who wish to live on their own. The veranda at th back is hudge and gives a busy family a place outside - even if it rains. The beach is close, clean and private. It drops off quickly so you can swim immediately. Snokling and diving on this island are amazing and the fishing an experience not to be missed. The people on San Salvador are helpful and kind. We were able to rent a golf cart at the Riding Rock Resort and their bartender there, Peaches, was a mine of information. This is a palce suitable for those who like to make their own fun. Our whole family enjoyed it.

Blue House Not What We Hoped For
Unfortunately, the Blue House has not recovered well from Hurricane Joaquin in October 2015. The house was not at all what we were expecting and looks as though deterioration began well before the hurricane. In all fairness, Flavia should have let us know this. We stayed away from the house all day everyday mostly because there was nothing pleasant to go back to. Sliding glass doors would not lock, much less open and close. AC and TV did not work. No place to wash feet after walking the beach. No hammock as pictured. Long black hairs in bathroom and shower. Dirty toilets. Clogged bathroom sink the entire time. Garnell tried her best to fix things for us but she could only do so much. Flavia, the owner wasn't able to help from NY but she SEEMED nice in response to our complaints, telling us to go stay at Riding Rock Resort. To say the least and be polite, this house was not well maintained and cared for. The island people are the nicest you'll meet anywhere. The best place to eat is next to the Juice bar at Rosemary's. She makes the best conch around. And, David across the street makes a delicious conch salad! Rent a car and find all the sites on the map but beware, many are still in disarray from the hurricane and roads to Snow Bay and Pigeon Creek are either not accessible or we couldn't find. Same for Guanhini Beach Resort. The place to go at night is Riding Rock resort, but wait until May, June or July. They were closed while we were there. When you go say hi to Peaches. I would NOT recommend Club Med unless you must have a spa treatment. Day passes are 180.00 each and only include buffets and watered down drinks. The spa is run separately and the people who run it are wonderful. Despite the condition of the house, we managed to have a good time but left a day early because we couldn't bare staying another night in a place that made us cringe. I wish this site allowed me to post pictures.

Island stay....
Location on the beach with snorkeling just off was fantastic. The house was comfortable, nice fresh, clean linens and towels - gorgeous deck and great family sitting room. The 5 bedrooms and bathrooms were as described. Other areas were unfinished and outside was a mess around the sides of the house. The island itself is very quiet- Limited outside activities other than Club Med. Grocery Shopping is a little store with basic supplies only - we took in a freezer of food And loved going to Club Med to play and eat! We could not participate in any boating activities other than at Club Med as everything was booked by them. We had a storm the first day and then the sand flies came out! It would have been good to have been forewarned- research sand flies/ no-see-ums!!

Heaven on Earth
Thank you so much for an absolutely amazing stay. Our family arrived and were met at the airport by Garnell who was lovely and ever so accommodating throughout our entire stay. The house was just as the pictures showed and the beach right outside the back door was incredible - not a sole in sight - the entire beach all to ourselves. There are some really beautiful reefs just off shore to explore. We purchased day passes at club Med and had great fun sailing drinking and trying to eat as much as possible to make up for the cost - worth it though. There is not a lot to do on the island - a couple of places to eat - down home, Columbus tavern and Paradis. Not a bad idea to preorder at least an hour prior - food if prepared to order and can take a while — all good though. Highly recommend the house and the island.

Good house, great time
Had a good time at the house, it's located a short drive north of the airport and right on the beach. AC was cold, wifi worked great, and having a grill to cook on was an added bonus.

Great location and nice people
Our family had a great time at the Blue House. The locals were amazing, the location superb. The house manager Garnell is a lovely lady, very helpful and attentive. The house is expansive and offers great views of the turquoise waters. The beach is literally yours. At about 50 feet from shore there are coral reefs with caverns, perfect for daily snorkeling. The sand flies come at dusk and are problematic, and spray doesn't work well...should have been warned prior and done some research on how to avoid. The food is expensive and difficult to get good quality and variety (paradise island in middle of nowhere).

San Salvador is a hidden gem
We enjoyed our trip to San Salvador and the Blue House was perfect for our stay. Garnell (property manager) is wonderful and she also helped us with cooking our Thanksgiving turkey (her mother cooked it for us). We enjoyed the beach! Shore dives from the back porch are lovely. Coral heads are right off the beach so bring your mask, snorkel and fins. Clean and comfortable with plenty of room and a beautiful view. Extra freezers for our fish (the wahoo bite was ON!!). The marina is about a mile south of this house and we had our boat docked there. Bring bug spray!! The mosquitos on San Sal are no joke! We used a Thermocell on the back porch at night to keep them away. Old Bahamian charm with Bahamian character. If you are flexible and enjoy a bit of adventure with your vacation then this island is for you.

JUST AMAZING!!!
MICKAEL

Turquoise Heaven
The house has everything you need to enjoy time at the beach. The kitchen is well equipped. Several nice touches include a 5 gallon water dispenser, dishwasher, and washer and dryer. The house was clean with plenty of towels and nice big beach towels. The owner and manager were pleasant, honest and extra helpful. The big porch across the back is where we spent entire days, reading and alternately sunning and seeking shade. When you sit there you cannot see another house and I never saw anyone walk past. After a cocktail hour walk, the air condition comfort inside while cooking dinner and listening to your I-Pod and watching the sunset out the back is just perfect. The beach is beautiful, and the only people we ever saw were a few local families fishing early morning and at dusk. The swimming is great and we had fun snorkeling right out back of the house. We ate at Paradis several times, the whole snapper is done with flavor and perfect seasoning. Also try the conch chowder at the Riding Rock Inn, yum. There are not many places to eat and you might want to bring your favorite staples, rice, cereal, coffee, spices for cooking as the provisions at the store are limited. Fresh veggies and dairy must be purchased soon after the boat comes in (because when they are gone you have to wait until the next boat). The store owner teased us about how many yogurts we bought. We were able to get three heads of romaine lettuce, which is a real surprise in the out islands. Don't forget to check out the light house, go inside and see the marvel of the prisms that make up the light reflection. If you like solitude and turquoise water the Blue House is the place to be!

Great time at thye Blue House San Salvador
Three friends and I just returned from San Sal for our 20 year reunion. We all used to work on the island as teachers and as dive instructors way back. In many ways, little has changed. One great addition is the home we rented in VH Victoria Hill on the North Western side of the island where the sand is white, the ocean light blue and waves are generally calm. The "Blue House" is well appointed and situated on a powder white sand beach- with turquoise blue "Bahamian" ocean steps from the back porch- it was perfect for us. August was hot- and we knew it would be so AC in the living area and guest rooms were very important. The home was well supplied with pots and pans- laundry- stereo, Internet. The internet went out for a few days- rebooted and was fine- we had some minor trouble with the ac remotes- new batteries would probably resolve that, fresh linens, towels and the option to do laundry were great. The whole place met and exceeded our expectations. We know the island well- it is very remote and everything comes by supply boat once a week just as it has for 40- 50 years. Every single nut and bolt, can of soup, gallon of milk comes via "mail boat". Once you understand that, you realize what a fine job the owner and manager do maintaining the house. The location, just North of town- in a small settlement, Victoria Hill is quiet yet close to the island's two hotels. Other homes we looked at are near beautiful beaches but are quite removed from any stores or restaurants. Don't come to San Sal looking for fine exotic cuisine and South Beach style nightlife- come to relax, melt the stress away, snorkel, fish, swim, walk the long uninhabited beachs, get to know some friendly locals. Talking about food, we did manage to eat our share of cracked conch, steamed conch, conch salad, fried chicken, mac and cheese, fried fish, peas and rice (thanks Peaches) and of course - grilled to 20 lb dolphin (dorado) fish we caught trolling off the wall. Good times- stick to the rum- it is good quality and cheap in comparison to beer which can cost $50+ a case. Thanks and we hope to be back some day.

the Blue House was fantastic! The beach and water access is unbelievable! The house was well stocked for all our needs for cooking, plenty of towels etc. Perhaps you can leave instructions for the A/C and its remotes, we were unsure how to use them- otherwise the house was great and we look forward to staying there again in the near future!!

Great Week at the Blue House
Our family of 4 (including 2 demanding teenagers) spent a very relaxing week here in mid-August. The house is very spacious: the kids each had a room to themselves & there was another twin-bedded room that we didn't use. The kitchen is a good size with a full range of (dated) functioning appliances. The ac worked very well (leak in one room was waiting for a part from Nassau to be fixed), as did the TV, internet and PS2. Combined with all the other natural attractions, our kids thought they were in heaven! The location of the house is FANTASTIC: all you can see is beach and sea. The beach is 10 yards through the garden from the deck and then the sea is 20-30 yards away depending on the tide. The beach has a steep section (down to the waters edge) for about 3-4 feet that could be problematic for a toddler on their own, or for someone with physical disabilities. The sea was crystal clear except for the day after the one major thunderstorm we had. There are several thriving reefs within 50 yards of the shore and we saw countless tropical fish, large grouper and parrot fish, the turtle, octopus, cuttle fish, etc etc. You won't need to go anywhere else to snorkel: it is right here. We only had company once, when on the "cloudy water day" a family of 4 walked all the way along to us from Club Med. We hired a car for the week (Avis/Hertz it is NOT!) to explore the island, and in retrospect would have been better off getting it for a day and using the golf cart for the rest of the week. We were pleasantly surprised by the availability, quality and cost of provisions bought on the island. We were disappointed by the quality and selection of restaurant food (it's all just OK at best): if you want anything decent, be prepared to cook it yourself - there is a grill on the deck, so this is not a problem. What else? We never saw a mosquito; outside after sunset there were smaller black flying, biting insects but (a) we encountered far more of them when we went out to eat & (b) deet-based repellent (sold @ local supermarket) worked. The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The attic space is in the process of being finished and tools and materials were visible from the landing: but nothing that a strategically placed hanging screen couldn't deal with. If it was mine, a fresh coat of exterior paint would be on my to do list, along with a 2nd hammock for someone else to use! We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
