Wonderful views from peaceful coastal Highland retreat
Camusaine has a wonderful location with fantastic views. It was built in 1998 on the site of a ruined croft house and was designed to showcase great sea loch and hill views. It looks out to a large bay which our kids have loved to explore when the tide is out and paddle around the bay in a canoe when the tide in. We love to just relax; admire the view and appreciate a spot in the world away from everything! Camusaine is the name of the croft and the house. The croft land covers 75 acres surrounding the house. Most of the croft land is given over to natural woodland regeneration. The house is fairly remote. There is one other cottage located in the bay area. The house is ideal for those who love the outdoors and are happy to spend sometime away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Inside space:The house was built in 1998. It is furnished with a blend of the past and present. It has a comfortable holiday home feel about it. The house has an open plan kitchen /dining area with wooden floors leading to a comfortable living room and sunroom. The master bedroom is down and there are two further bedrooms upstairs. There are three WC's which is always handy. There is plenty of room for three couples or a family of 5 and grandparents downstairs! There is a fenced in garden for kids to play to the front of the house.
Bedrooms There is master bedroom downstairs with a double bed and built in wardrobe with en suite bathroom with bath, over the bath shower and bidet. Upstairs there are two roomy bedrooms with sloped ceilings each with two single beds and built in wardrobes. One of the bedrooms has a trundle bed which can be used to sleep three, though space will be limited if the trundle bed is used. (Please advise if you need to use it so we can make up the trundle bed). There is also a small third room upstairs which can accommodate a travel cot (cot supplied on request with no bedding). There is a WC with a shower upstairs. Guests upstairs can also use the WC downstairs adjacent to the bottom of the stairs.
Kitchen We have a large fully equipped kitchen with open plan eating area/ living area and peat/wood burning stove. There is room for 6 to seat comfortably around the kitchen table. Seating more would be a cosy fit around the table and would require taking chairs from elsewhere the house. ( There are folding chairs in the porch cupboard.)The kitchen has a dishwasher, electric cooker, microwave and coffee maker. There is a washing machine in the back porch with plenty of space for boots and to hang jackets. Feel free to borrow the wellington boots there to explore the bay. There is a clothes dryer in the cupboard in the front porch and iron/ironing board (please note there is no tumble dryer ).
Living areas There is a large living room with comfy sofas with electric fire and large TV with Sky Free view and DVD player. Leading from that is a fantastic sunroom with plenty of seating with great views of the loch and hills.
Outside Space:
Both the kitchen living area and sunroom have patio doors which open on to the deck and enclosed garden at the front of the house. There is outside seating on the deck ; a bench, coffee table and two chairs and also a small charcoal BBQ.There are folding chairs in the front porch cupboard.
The house has a disabled access ramp along the side of the house to both the back and front porch doors.

Camusaine was perfect - lovely house, and beautiful spot by the loch side. We were staying with my husband and my parents; the space, comfort and facilities were much appreciated. We would definitely recommend!
A lovely short break in this wonderful house. The house was clean, quickly warmed up and met our needs beautifully. We particularly enjoyed the different living spaces for relaxing at different times.
We spent a great week here touring the peninsular and Mull Iona. The house is lovely everything you need is there. The weather was exceptionally good for September!
After a 9 hour journey from Hull we arrived at this beautiful location.
As per the previous reviewer, a lovely and clean property.
Particularly nice is the layout of the property. Having breakfast /diner while having a direct view over the loch and the mountains behind it. Perfect.
From this location, we explored (to name a few) the Island of Mull (via Kilchoan-Tobermory and return via Fishnish-Lochaline), castle Tioram and Beinn Resipol.
Beautiful area.
Tolles Haus in sehr ruhiger Lage. Perfekt zum Entspannen. Sehr geräumig und gemütlich eingerichtet. Auch die Sache mit der Wasserversorgung stört gar nicht.
My family had a lovely holiday at Camusaine . The house was clean and very well presented. All furnishings, bedding, and house hold appliances and equipment were of a very good standard . The owners of this property had really thought of everything. We will definitely recommend this property to friends and family who are visiting Scotland.

About the host
Hosted by Fiona Jane Mitchell
We live in Texas but are Scottish and come back to Scotland regularly. We have a son at Scottish University and two teenagers who are students in the USA. The house was passed down to us by family who are from the area. We love the outdoors and the peace and space we enjoy while staying at Camusaine. We would like other people to share the experience !
Why they chose this property
We enjoy just sitting in the sun room taking in the breathtaking views and exploring a part of Scotland which the world appears not to have touched! We also love hill walking and beach walks in the area.
What makes this property unique
You will fall in love with the views and the feeling of getting away from it all while staying at the house in its remote location.
