3 Bdrm Cottage near Baddeck and St. Ann's<br>1 hour to Inverness

The ROOST is a bright and cheery, fully equipped cottage in the heart of Cape Breton. With views of the Bras D’or from inside and outside - you won't want to leave. But if you do, the cottage is close to amenities, shopping, tourist attractions, golf, nature and centrally located to all of the treasures Cape Breton has to offer - Nothing is farther than a day trip away.

The Master Bedroom has a Queen bed and private balcony over looking the Bras D'or. The 2nd (Queen) & 3rd (2 twins) bedrooms feel like you are nestled in the treetops. All of the beds are super comfortable with quality linens leaving you well rested.

The living room is equipped with WIFI and a smart tv and blu ray with tons of movies, but as the cottage comes with oodles of board games for kids and adults, you may never turn the tv on. We also have a sample of CD's of local artists for you to enjoy, but the stereo is bluetooth so you can still enjoy your own music.

The spacious kitchen is ideal to cook a large meal with the entire family helping out. It is fully equipped with everything you could need - including lobster pot! Added bonus - we have our own "lobster guy"! During lobster season he can bring a fresh catch right to your door!

Need to do a load of laundry, no problem - we've got you covered!

Upon booking, we can offer you suggestions on what to do and where to eat and recommend day trips appropriate for your group and budget.

The ROOST is Pet Friendly, however there is an additional cleaning charge

The Perfect Place to Relax After Any Nova Scotia Adventure

My husband and I stayed at Jen's place during the Celtic Colours Festival. It couldn't have been more perfect. Jen is indeed a super host as she was quick to respond to any questions but excellent about allowing her guests their full privacy to thoroughly enjoy the property. The house has lovely decor, comfy couches and chairs, and everything necessary to cook or barbecue at home if you wish. At the same time, it was close to the Cabot Trail and Baddeck making it a great location for adventuring or taking advantage of the local restaurant scene. When we go back to Nova Scotia, Jen's place will absolutely be the place we stay again!!!

Cape Breton Wedding Vacation

We had a wonderful stay at the Roost. It's a beautiful home with every comfort you can think of. It's perfectly located in Cape Breton and I cannot say enough positive things about the owner. She's so responsive, kind and gives great recommendations for the area! We were traveling from the United States to Cape Breton for a wedding with 2 young children and the Roost was perfect for our stay! Thank you so much again!

Adorable house with great decor

We loved the property. The garden is gorgeous and we were lucky to catch the Hydrangeas in full bloom. The house’s decor has interior designer touches throughout. It’s very comfortable , the kitchen is fully stocked with cooking tools and indoor or outdoor seating. It’s a bit far from Baddeck but worth the drive. That town is adorable and even has Celtic music. We also caught the annual Festiville event.

Fantastic stay!

We travelled as a family of 4 plus my father, there was plenty of room for all of us and the cottage was well equipped with everything we needed. With its central location, everything was within a short day trip distance of 1 to 1.5hrs including Fortress of Louisbourg, and Cape Breton Highlands National Park. We had a fabulous time!

Wonderful stay on Bras D'or Lakes

This is a great property to explore all Cape Breton has to offer. The property was clean and without question has one of the most complete kitchens we've stayed in. We kept windows open when we home allowing for nice breezes. From this base, we rove the Cabot trail, sailed on Bras D'or lakes, kayaked around Baddeck, hiked, ate lots of great food, and experienced local music. Cape Breton has so much to offer and yet remains a relatively uncommercialized, maintaining its' charm and culture. We had a great trip and highly recommend this property.

Merci Jennifer !

The Roost didn’t disappoint

My sister and I drove from Montreal together with my two golden retrievers. We all had a great week at The Roost relaxing when ‘at home’ and exploring the area on car and on foot. The girls especially loved swimming at the end of the paved road Jen is a great and extremely responsive host. The house is well stocked and there are always surprise pieces of art wherever you turn. Loved loved loved it and highly recommend as a great spot to stay

Summer Stay in Big Harbour

What a perfect stop to relax- beautiful setting-loved the gardens- and immaculate living spaces. Owner was very helpful with minor issues and provided great info on how to best navigate Cape Breton. The central location of this property made it possible to visit all the highlights of Cape Breton and return "home" for a relaxing evening. The house is more beautiful than the pictures on the VBRO listing

The Roost

A very comfortable and convenient home. Very nicely decorated and furnished. We stayed for three days, trying to see as much of Cape Breton and Baddeck as we could. The owner Jen has a great book packed with ideas for your trip! Just a note, the road to Meat Cove is very rough but doable with prudent driving! Lol! It was a great trip and we hope to return!

Trip to Nova Scotia with friends

The property was extremely clean and delightfully decorated. It was a great place to stay to explore Baddeck and the Cabot Trail. We had a wonderful time. The owner was very responsive to any questions we had. We would definitely use this property again for a vacation, it felt like a home away from home.

Wonderful Accommodations and Perfect Location

"The Roost" is a large, clean, well-equiped and charming home located near Baddeck and within an easy drive of everything we wanted to see on this trip, including Fortress Louisbourg. The owner, Jen, was very quick to respond to any questions. I would highly recommend "The Roost" for up to six guests!

Amazing Stay at the Roost

Our family had the most amazing 4 days in Cape Breton using The Roost as our base. The host was amazing and gave us many great recommendations on seeing everything we wanted to see. The cottage itself was in amazing shape and truly felt like a great family home. Would not hesitate to come back if we were going to be in the area or recommend to other friends and family!

The best!

We loved our stay! Truly the best rental experience I’ve had. The house is even cuter in person- perfectly decorated, beautiful property and view of the lake, SO clean, extremely spacious & comfortable. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in & had everything we could need. We loved being able to have a relaxed meal sitting out on the deck, enjoying the view. It was very conveniently located for exploring the Cabot Trail over a few days. The closest town, Baddeck was very charming with great food and shopping options. Also the property owner, Jen, is so kind and helpful with amazing recommendations! Again, we loved it and wish we could have stayed longer!

Great Base for Exploring Cape Breton

We enjoyed our stay at the “Roost“ on Big Harbour road, and its central location, accessible to much of Cape Breton Isle, particularly the Cabot Trail. The house was very clean and well-kept— it felt just like being at home, and we especially appreciated having laundry facilities to clean up after a day of hiking and exploring the area. The kitchen was fully equipped and we liked having the flexibility to eat out, warm up leftovers, or cook a new meal during our stay. Nights were quiet and peaceful, and the curtains allow one to moderate the early morning light as much as one wants. We also appreciated the quick and helpful communication with the hosts during our stay— they were ready to answer our every question, by either email or phone, and they ensured that our stay was both comfortable and relaxing. We would gladly stay there again on future visits to Cape Breton and we recommend it to anyone visiting the island.

Baddeck near Bell

We stayed in mid-May, just as trees and flowers were emerging. The property was a very comfortable retreat from seasonal chills and wind. The host, Jen, provided extensive and very helpful information on the many attractions of Cape Breton Island, including the wonderful AG Bell museum. The kitchen was thoroughly stocked with everything we needed. I must comment, though, that both the light switches and trash management requirements demanded some careful work to figure out. Our only suggestion would be a request to provide Kleenexes for runny noses (the weather again). Also, we had expected to be "on the water" and to have convenient beach walking from the house.

About the host

Hosted by Jennifer Blanchard

Host profile image
We are a family of 4 with 2 young daughters. We live and work in northern Ontario surrounded by wilderness where we spend most of our time outdoors.

Why they chose this property

We visited Cape Breton for the first time in 2015 and fell in love. So much so that we came back as often as possible and we will continue to visit as often as work allows us to run away. We have made many great friends and as lovely as it is to spend time with them we really wanted to have our own place when we came. We searched for the right property for a few years and finally found The ROOST. It is in a perfect location for when we are on holiday and it will be perfect for when we finally retire.

What makes this property unique

Big Harbour Rd is a dead end road and it is really quiet, but still close to town. On our first visit to the house we saw 5 deer and a few bald eagles which we really enjoyed watching.
