About this property

Waterfalls, Treetop Long-Distance Views at Rustic Luxury Cabin

Named for the multi-level 200 feet of splashing waterfalls flowing alongside, Rockwater Cabin is a secluded, rustic 20-acre mountaintop dream home for those outdoor enthusiasts who prefer a touch of private luxury.

Enjoy a 2.5 mile winding gravel mountain road as you enter the forest wilderness, but with the creature comforts of a three-level authentic log construction home. Modern kitchen, satellite TV, wired phone line, and fiber optic hi-speed wifi. No streets out back, no neighbors on either side. Only mountain ridges in view out front, in the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest.

In the winter, warm your toes at the natural log burning, river rock fireplace and a generous bookshelf of classic literature and travel books. In the summer, enjoy the 4-burner outdoor grill and the close proximity to Springer Mountain, southern end of the Appalachian Trial. A 15-minute drive takes you to the perfect 1-mile hiking trail to the top of Springer. 15 minutes in the other direction takes you to Amicalola Falls State Park, featuring the highest waterfalls in Georgia.

The area offers fly-fishing, horseback riding, hiking, wineries and antique shopping in nearby historic Ellijay and Blue Ridge. During your stay, enjoy the serenity of no freeways, no airplanes, no signs, buildings or even TV towers to obstruct your view of the ancient Appalachian Mountains from the wrap-around deck. At night, you’ll look out on pitch black darkness for miles, with only moon and stars above, and the rush of the waterfalls in the woods below.

To comfortably accommodate all members of your party, Rockwater sleeps up to six with 3 bedrooms, 5 beds. The master bedroom is found on the top level and features a plush, king sized bed, along with a 40” led tv, private bath with 2 sinks and a shower/bath tub combination.
The master also features a pull out sofa, full-bed size for one adult. Bedroom2 is downstairs on the terrace level with day bed with pull out trundle bed and TV. Bedroom3 has a Queen bed with private bath and shower. Washer/dryer is in the hallway.

Preparing meals is easy with new KitchenAide appliances. The dining table under the all natural deer antler chandelier seats 8.

For the drive up, it's bumpy but well maintained - all the roads are well marked. In icy or very wet conditions, a 4-wheel drive type vehicle is recommended not required.

Location Location

You cannot beat this location. The house was more a home and very comfortable. Our dogs totally enjoyed it. We lived in Atlanta for 20 years. We frequented this area so many many times for hiking with our family. Thank you for sharing.

Waterfall Cabin

My husband and I rented the cabin for some time away and it was the perfect place! It’s very secluded and we enjoyed sitting outside listening to the waterfall that is beside it. It is so peaceful and the view is breathtaking! I am so grateful for the time spent there … I hope we can go back soon!

Great place to get away!

If you are just looking to get away from everything this is a great place to do it. Very quiet, private, and secluded! The property is absolutely amazing! The cabin itself is a bit dated however it is nice and you have everything there that you need. You do travel some distance off of paved roads, but the property in my opinion is well worth the drive in.

Getaway in the woods

Great property. Amazing view. Creek and waterfalls right next to the house. Idyllic location. Pretty far from the town, but that’s the goal.

Weekend getaway

You definitely want to find this cabin in the daytime. It's really high up but so worth it. The view is amazing and the waterfall is tranquilizing. Truly a peaceful place for much needed rest and relaxation. Wouid definitely stay here again. Tulla & Britt White LaGrange, GA

Secluded and Relaxing

The owners were great to work with and the cabin was exactly as described. If you are looking for a true "off the grid" experience (but with all of the modern amenities including cell service and wifi) then this is the cabin for you. The waterfall is literally just off the deck and can be heard as you enjoy the gorgeous views of the mountains. Terrific for reconnecting with family.

Beatifull cabin, deep in the woods tho

The house was gorgeous, far away from any life...it will take you almost 30 minutes to get down to the town, which made our everyday trips kind of difficult!also be aware of snakes when taking dogs with you-ours was bitten by venomous Copperhead during the stay, that was hanging right by the house

Beautiful View

Come here for the beautiful view, the nearby stream's white-noise, swinging for the kids, crackling fire in the fireplace, playing games, relaxing, cooking, and hiking nearby trails. Great overall adventure. We overlooked a few issues because of all these. I mention them only as suggestions because the view goes a really long way. Owners made sure we printed directions. Directions could still use some more work with confirming landmarks instead of just turn-by-turn since the neighborhood has few two-way street signs and mailboxes confirming which road you are on after merges, etc. Probably even note that paying attention to GPS is not recommended at all after the gas station and give the gas station address to plug-in to GPS. There was a sharp broken rocking-chair set aside. I presume it just had not been removed yet but it was in the view when eating. We successfully connected to WiFi itself but satellite Internet was rarely there. A bad smell in basement laundry area got a little overpowering towards the end. 4-Wheel drive vehicles are strongly recommended. High wheel base is definitely necessary (SUV, Truck, Jeep). Not sure if a typical sedan would make it... for real. With the great weather and great property, our family with young kids really had a fantastic getaway weekend.

Bucket List Item

Since little our son has always asked for a cabin getaway with the entire family. We are beach people so we normally head to some exotic island or beach destination. For his 28th bday his gfriend decided to surprise him with this getaway and we all participated. We had a fabulous time. Arriving was exciting and exactly as described. Your Prius won't make it, but our GMC Denali did. The cabin was clean and well stocked for spending a few days of quality time with each other. We played games we brought in, had delicious dinners, mix and mingled around the roaring fire. We enjoyed the deck, the family room, the kitchen. Our tiny Yorkies who are spoiled babies LOVED roaming supervised around the property, playing in the leaves, hanging out by the swing. The waterfall was soothing and relaxing, and Saturday's weather was fabulous; sunny, 60 and breathtakingly beautiful. We encountered 6 wasps inside the bedroom in the basement, but we are nature people, so we captured them and let them out; however, there are a few big nests around the property that may need attention. Yellow Jackets were pretty active too - but we were sharing the beauty of the day with them. Ladybugs were EVERYWHERE inside the home and out, but aren't they good luck? We did not mind! Our only suggestion to the owners, there are several light bulbs inside and outside that were blown out. Family room, downstairs bathroom, front porch/deck. They may want to have their maintenance team address those. However, everything was available; cleaning products, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, garbage bags, TP, which most properties do NOT leave on property at all. We had a terrific time and would recommend this fabulous location to any of our friends who are looking for an off the grid getaway. Our only regret, is that we did not bring our telescope to star gaze. Oh one more thing, print directions to the property. If you go out, there are areas without cell service and if you dont have those handy, then you will go on a n adventure like we did! :)

The View

The view was spectacular, we caught the leaf color at this cabin at its peak. The cabin was cozy and had everything needed for cooking in the large kitchen. The picture window was perfect during wet and windy weather when we could not sit out on the deck. The leaves were deep and we were not able to walk down to the water fall but had no problem being able to hear the sounds of the falls. The only negative was the path from the vehicle to the house. It’s a stone and dirt path and this time of the year leaf covered I wound advise anyone that has problems with walking to be aware of the path. We loved the privacy and the roads to hike there at the cabin.

Beautiful Water Falls

Remote cabin with beautiful amazing views of mountains, and the sound of the waterfalls that are on the property next to the cabin. Nicely furnished inside and very comfortable. Our dogs loved exploring the woods and going in the creeks! Would give it a five star except for the path to the deck and kitchen that need a little TLC.

Relaxing, Peaceful Cabin

I stayed in early November and had great views of the changing leaves. Cabin is lovely--large bed in loft slept great. Cabin has everything you need--kitchen has a great number of pans, gadgets, etc., and king bed in loft sleeps well. I made a fire in the fireplace every night and it was so cozy and peaceful!

If you want the view you have to do the climb

This property is AMAZING !!! We love the Ellijay area as there is a TON to do such as swimming, biking, hiking, boating, shopping, the Big Foot museum, good diners, and the Apple capital of Georgia. Usually we do several day trips while in Ellijay but this property was so magical we only left once. We hiked all over exploring this property with our dogs ( no copperhead sightings for us) and we loved every minute of it . Just a note of reference if you are traveling with your furry friend there is a great 24 hour emergency vet located close ! We had a couple of things come up while staying here and the owners were incredibly responsive and full of information. This is our new favorite property in Ellijay the waterfall is SO relaxing and the furniture all top end for complete relaxion, even the beds slept great (that never happens). I do recommend renting a 4 wheel drive if you don't have one, it will just make the climb to the top a lot easier.

Idealic Setting

Serene and beautiful property. SUV's are fine in the summer but would definitely need 4 wheel drive in winter. 20 minutes from the main Road to the cabin. Unlike some we made the trip up and down several times to explore all N Georgia has to offer and it was well worth it.

Awayyyy From it All!! Beautiful and Peaceful!

As soon as we walked onto the deck I had a breathless moment upon gazing out to the view. Pictures really don't do it justice! The sound of the waterfall was wonderful and also could be heard inside the cabin. We had rain and thunderstorms one night which sounded amazing on the roof. If you stay here, plan on staying in and bring all of your food and supplies because there is no quick trip to town. Which if you know that ahead of time, is not an issue. This property is off the beaten trail and I forgot my hiking boots which made it near impossible to explore the full acreage of the property so don't forget those! Also, there are no curtains in the loft room so bring an eye mask if you're like me and need darkness to sleep in. The kitchen is wonderful and has everything you need to cook at home so bring your groceries. The only drawback for me was not having as big of a canopy to view the night sky since the cabin is mostly under the trees. Not the end of the world but worth mentioning if that is a big thing for you. Also we couldn't seem to get the telescope to work either. Maybe user error or maybe it was broken. Overall we truly enjoyed our stay and felt right at home in this sweet cabin! A great place to unwind from the daily grind and would recommend!

Great Weekend!

We loved our weekend stay in this beautiful cabin. The view is dreamy, the waterfall is so nice to listen to, and we truly did not see another soul the entire time we were there. The bed is very comfortable. The drive up is rough so arriving during the day with a 4 wheel drive is almost necessary. We didn’t have/do those and made it, but if it had been raining, I don’t think we would have.

Gorgeous Property, Fantastic Trip

Our family came to visit Elijay for the first time and stayed at this property. The views are absolutely unbelievable. We stayed 4 days, and for 3 days we did some running around to hike around town, but our favorite day was the day we just spent exploring and enjoying the property. My kids loved it and felt like we were on a big adventure. The drive to town is quite long, but it's worth it for the view. I would definitely recommend a 4 wheel drive, as it makes the trip up the roads much easier. If we make the trip again, we will definitely plan our day out doing things for one day, and enjoy more days at the property. We could not have enjoyed our time in your cabin more. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home!

Wonderful Thanksgiving!

We absolutely loved our time at this cabin - it was well kept and had everything we needed for a nice Thanksgiving stay! The views from the wrap-around porch couldn't be beat. We spent many afternoons simply sitting outside with a glass of wine, enjoying the view and listening to the sounds of the rushing water. With so much surrounding land, we never once heard or saw another person during our stay. And we loved hiking down the mountain (and back up!) every day. We'd be thrilled to come back and stay at this property again.
