We love visiting small towns

We were looking for a close place to stay for a festival near by Oxford. We like staying in small towns with charm. This house was prefect for us. Carol was a super host and we love being greeted by the woofy posse and the kitten Willow. The communication was great and she worked with us on some timing logistics. The house was very clean and comfortable. Carol made sure we had everything we needed. We loved sitting on the large porch out front. There is a nice backyard as well with a fire pit and picnic table. There are 2 suites for rent with a common area of kitchen, dining room and living room. We felt the area to be very quiet and safe. the Downtown area was within walking distance of the house and we visited Carol's other business Gear and Beer, which was adorable and they rent kayaks for nearby Kerr Lake. We would love to return and check out more of the town and the lake.

100 year Old Building

I am sure this property would be perfectly suitable for some people under the right conditions, but it just wasn't a good fit for us. We ended up not staying the night after we checked in. The house is old and large, which means they don't want to pay for air conditioning the whole house. That is understandable, but we went during the hottest part of the summer and that was a bad fit for us. The bed felt unstable to us, but for smaller people I'm sure that would not be as much of an issue. There were no outlets in the bathroom. The neighborhood didn’t feel the most safe, but it was close to the downtown area. We decided to cut our trip short and drive the few hours back home for the air-conditioning instead of staying the full night, though we did use the room for a few hours. Even though we didn’t ask for it, we received a partial refund which was above and beyond what we expected and we appreciated that. Overall, the place felt clean and well cared for. The instructions for getting in were pretty clear and we had no issues there. For the age of the house, it was in pretty good shape. I could see this being an better fall/spring/winter option, but the summer heat was too much for us.

Gorgeous century old home

We stayed in Henderson to try it the commute to RTP and it was a very easy drive. The house is gorgeous and well maintained. The bedroom is spacious and well appointed. Carol is great to work with and we felt very welcome. Super easy check in and out.

Host is NOT pet friendly

We booked this property because of the listing of pet friendly. When I messaged in, I explained we have certified Search and Rescue dogs and our affiliations as instructors and team leader. The reservation was approved within 15 minutes. Apparently, the host either did not like the size of the dogs or the fact that we are northerns because she kicked us out. She even planted dog poop in her dining room which we knew was not from our dogs since it was much smaller., different color and ice cold and dry and located in a dark place that onky she would know was there. She claimed that our dogs were over 100 lbs., which is absolutely not true since they are both under 70. She also claimed they would destroy her wood floors, which was also not true since they would not be allowed to wander around. Our dogs were given a 10 minute supervised look over of the place so they can sniff and get the curiosity out. The rest of the time they would have been on down stays. We took a video also afraid she was going to claim we did damage to her home. Our dogs were on down stays the entire time we loaded up and behind closed doors. She also misleads people on the shared space. She claims she will also be bringing her dogs through the common space which is something she MUST tell people... she is not a nice person. She did refund us all the money, claiming we dont fit with her house rules.... but left us without a place to stay since she has the right to do this... her house... so beware she can kick you out too... Lastly, I rent out a place too on a lake that is pet friendly and has more square footage of wooden floors than her apartment has. We provide our K9 guests with water bowls, beds and poop bags. If the place is truly pet friendly, make the guests feel that way. Very very bad experience. I have alerted all the kemnels in the area and k9 handlers in my chain of groups of her behavior. She should not be allowed to do this.

Excellent Choice

This place was 99% perfect. The only downfall was that we weren’t allowed to use the washer and dryer. Other than that....perfect!
