The Stonehouse Loft is a brand new building, built from the ground up in 2015. Designed by your host, with plans drawn by Jess Wilton, a great local Durango architect, it was built by people (your host again!) and for people who love modern design. The Loft features radiant heated concrete floors throughout, and a modern, bright, but cozy vibe. Located a half block off of Main Avenue in downtown Durango, you can walk to all the shops, restaurants, galleries and bars in minutes from this centrally located apartment. A king size bed, lovely shower and bathroom, and well equipped kitchen provide you with the comforts and conveniences of home. Close to mountain biking, hiking, the river and the Durango Silverton Narrow gauge railway. This property puts you close to everything Durango has to offer. (DURANGO VACATION RENTAL PERMIT #15-010) ...There is off-street parking for one medium-sized or small car.

We loved staying at this modernist apartment - very clean and hip for these two “old timers”. Located a block off Main St., we walked everywhere this weekend - restaurants, bars and shopping. Durango is a fun town and this property made our weekend memorable. I would highly recommend staying her. Owner George will treat you right - you wine disappointed
I really enjoyed my stay at this accommodation in Durango. The downtown area was perfect for what I was looking for which was walking distance to the old city the river and restaurants.
George's VRBO is in the perfect location to walk to restaurants and bars. Off street parking is a little tight but nice to have. Overall loved the place and our stay in Durango.
We loved staying here. The place had everything we could have needed, a beautiful outdoor space, and is in a prime location. We look forward to potentially staying again!
This property is truly incredible all around! Well decorated, location is perfect, clean, 10/10. Walking distance to everything in downtown Durango. You will not be disapointed!
Great experience! Very clean AND easy to keep clean. Spacious, lots of light and good views. We cook and found the kitchen was excellent! A block off Main Avenue and the great restaurants and coffee shops. Location of apartment is on a service street so there is no noisy traffic. Space for one car off street parking. We had six people over for supper and was comfortable and easy. Plenty of convenient storage space. It was just right for us! (our only 5 star rating for the 2024)
We really enjoyed our stay at George’s place. Location was perfect for exploring Durango (nice to leave the car parked and walk everywhere!).
The shared backyard was great to sit out in and enjoy the love music from Buckley Park.
Great stay overall!
We love this place. From its design to its location. Easy to trails, too. Walkable to all needs. Communication with the host excellent. Just lovely. We hope to book this place often!

The property was very well equipped. George welcomed us with a bottle of wine and there was plenty of tea, coffee and a variety of condiments for us to use. We would stay there again if we were to visit Durango.
Unique property close to Main Street and wonderful Durango neighborhood, bike trail, river….gentle steam train whistles and cozy garden outdoor area.
Will come again ++!
I had the pleasure of staying in the unit from Thursday until Sunday morning. I was the only one staying there, but my adult sons came over for dinner. The gathering space was comfortable and open. The natural light during the day was delightful and the evening ambience was enjoyable as well.
George was easy to connect with when I had questions. The space was clean and well appointed. The modern lines are both contemporary and comfortable at the same time.
The space was like living in a modern sculpture . Very Cool.
The location 1/2 block off main was very convenient and private. Parking spot was very helpful as Durango has every street metered.
Only surprise was there was no TV but after a day of "TV Detox" it was great listened to a lot of music and was less stressed than usual. Host was very responsive and welcoming.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this unique modern/rustic condo. It is one of the coolest places I have ever stayed in. I would highly recommend it as it is one block off Main Street and everything you want to do downtown is totally walkable. Wow! Amazing!

About the host
Hosted by George Schmidt
I moved to Durango right out of high school in 1991. I waited tables at a restaurant for three months before deciding I needed to do more. I went to college, and then lived and worked in NYC for twenty years before finally making it back to Durango in 2010. I'm an Artist, and a builder, and the Stonehouse Loft gave me the opportunity to bring these two skills together. The Loft is a completely new building which I built from the ground up to be a modern, comfortable and convenient downtown hideaway. I love mountain biking on the trails around town, hiking, backpacking, rafting, and exploring the deserts and mountains with my partner Amber Johnson, a Durango Native (that rare breed!) that i'm lucky enough to share my adventures with.
Why they chose this property
The Stonehouse Loft is a unique downtown property that is super close to Main Street, but provides a remarkable feeling of seclusion, even in the heart of busy downtown Durango. The Stonehouse Loft is a brand new, energy efficient and modern building with radiant heat, on demand hot water, huge windows with abundant natural light, and an open airy feel. There is a large private patio and garden, which is tucked away behind a fence and deck, but that offers views of the large trees in Buckley Park, right across the street. From the Stonehouse Studio you can walk anywhere you might want to go in downtown Durango. All the best restaurants and shops, galleries, bars and grocery stores are just minutes away on foot. All of the Mountain Biking Trailheads are easily accessed from downtown, and are there are literally hundreds of miles of trails you can access directly from the driveway in just a few minutes ride.
