About this property

Villa With Garden Gate Straight Onto Beach

Swim from the sandy beach at the bottom of the garden or in the private pool, then breakfast on the terrace or on your bedroom balcony and enjoy one of the finest views on the Riviera. The great appeal of this special house is its unique location. The unspoilt panorama of sea and hills is stunning. Yet, despite its tranquil setting, you can walk to the village shops in five minutes.

La Couveuse is at the end of an unmade track with a gate at the bottom of the garden with opens onto a path that leads directly to one of the prettiest family beaches in the area. You're so close you can be in the sea within minutes of rolling out of bed. If you prefer to swim privately, there is a 12 m x 7 m chlorine-free heated swimming pool surrounded by a spacious terrace, ideal for sun bathing and gentle ball games. There are two other terraces and a place to play boules.

The house is furnished for relaxation. There are no antiques for children to damage, nor does the garden contain rare plants for them to trample on. From the terraces, you can't see another house. Just the sea with its changing traffic of small boats and a distant lighthouse and the island it protects.

La Couveuse has been extensively renovated and is designed to provide a family or group of friends with all they require for a relaxed and enjoyable holiday. The spacious house can comfortably sleep 10 in five large bedrooms, all of which have uninterrupted views of the sea, hills and valley.

The living areas downstairs also command stunning sea views with doors leading to the paved terrace There's a modern 'open' kitchen fitted with a full range of appliances including cooker, dishwasher, fridge and micro-wave. Behind it is a utility room with a washing machine and a large second fridge. The main L-shaped living room has doors leading directly to a wide terraced area with a table and chairs where you can dine in the evening overlooking the then deserted beach.

In the 'quiet' back sitting room there is a television receiving terrestrial and satellite channels (Sky News, CNN, BBC World etc) and a video and DVD. The system can also pick up all the UK BBC radio stations.

The main double bedroom has French windows opening onto a balcony that overlooks the beach and sea. An en suite bathroom includes a bath, toilet and bidet. Two other double bedrooms also open onto the balcony and the fourth bedroom, which can comfortably sleep four, is ideal for children. These bedrooms share two other bathrooms. There is also a double bedroom suite in the roof.

For winter visitors the house has full central heating.

La Couveuse is equipped with everything we can think of for your comfort. There is table tennis, games, toys and shelves full of books, every utensil in the kitchen, the showers are hot, the sofas don't sag and you're spoilt for choice of places to snooze or sunbathe.

Wonderful location

Older style property with fantastic views over the med. The easy access to a small beach combined with the private pool ensured the kids and adults were spoilt for choice when it came to swimming and water based activities. Easy access to Cavalaire-sur-mer

A secluded gem

We have just booked for 2018, which will be our 12th year at La Couveuse. The location above the beautiful beach without another house in sight could not be improved upon. We invite friends to join us every year and they are always eager to return. The house is well maintained by Patrick, who lives nearby and the owner, Peter, always rings on our day of arrival to check that all is well. We thoroughly recommend a stay at La Couveuse.

Idyllic May break

We booked to go in May with some hesitation because we would have preferred later in the summer but all the weeks had already gone. It was perfect. Blue skies but not too hot, no traffic jams and we were swiftly welcomed into restaurants. The house itself is a pleasure to stay in; big enough for eight people not to get in each other’s way and the pool was heated. The owners were immensely helpful providing everything from tips on places to visit - from the beautiful botanical gardens - to where to eat out. We’ll be going to La Couveuse in May again.

Brilliant brilliant house!

The house is absolutely fantastic. It is a beautiful looking house in a peaceful secluded spot, but it is only a short walk from the town/shops/supermarket. A gate at the bottom of the garden leads down to the quiet sandy cove - which really does feels like your own private beach at times. The sea views from the bedrooms, terraces, balconies and pool area are beautiful. The heated pool is lovely, the bedrooms are big, the huge open plan kitchen/sitting room/ dining room is perfect for groups. For children there is a separate TV/games room, table-tennis table, table-football, wendy house, games and pool. All in all, it really is the perfect place to relax and unwind. We loved it. Thank you.

Just Perfect

We've been going to La Couveuse for the last 10 years, it's a fantastic place for an extended family holiday and we all enjoy it very much. We don't do much, early morning swim in the sea, lounge around all day and have drinks and dinner on the terrace in the evening, just perfect ....

THE NEST

I think La Couveuse means The Nest. If it doesn't, it's still an ideal name for this hideaway property on the Cote D'Azur, where my extended family have nested happily for many years. It has everything you might need for a self-contained summer holiday, and all ages, from 3-months-old to 74, love it to bits, and don't want to be anywhere else. Cavalaire has changed so much in recent years (we used to visit further up the hill in 1973) but Bonporteau is unchanged, thankfully. Where else can you sit on the terrace with your glass of rose and look out on a balmy sea, with not another building to spoil the view? The house is fully equipped, elegantly furnished, and watched over by a helpful and efficient guardian. Tony Staveacre

15th Consecutive Year

Even when there are summer weddings to go to in California, we still make sure we make time for at least 2 or 3 weeks in Cavalaire every year. All 5 bedrooms at La Couveuse now have new (silent) air conditioning and the house is every bit as good as the pictures and visitors comments you see on this web page. It's on a nature reserve and small beach right on the edge of town! Absolutely unique.

A magical place

This is a wonderful villa in a magical place. We have been coming to la Couveuse for a number of years having first visited Cavalaire as children. The house has beautiful views over the Mediterranean from every window and access to the beach directly below the house. Despite being within easy walking distance of Cavalaire with its excellent shopping, restaurants, watersports and all facilities, the villa is completely private and is surrounded by pine forest, beach and the sea. Both the owners and their local housekeeper do everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible and we very much look forward to returning. With the famously good weather in this part of France, the hardest choice we make all week is whether to swim in the lovely pool ( well fenced against mischievous children) or to go down to the sea. We usually did both. This year we also very much enjoyed visiting the Botanical Gardens at Le Rayol, a ten minute drive away.

Beautiful villa with traditional features

We loved this villa. It was cool and spacious with ample room for 10 people. We booked it for a special family birthday celebration. We had small children with us and equipment was available for them. The villa has several terraces with lovely flowers, and pool right next to one bedroom. We appreciated the extra sitting room, west facing, with TV and comfy chairs. This felt like a home, with books and games and lots of plates and dishes. We didn't go far during our stay and we ate at home most of the time. Carrefour Supermarket was a 10 minute walk and provide all basics. The owner was efficient in arranging our stay, providing full information and ensuring we received things on time. He also kept in touch during our stay. We would love to go back some time.

Amazing!

We had the most amazing stay at La Couverse. The Villa was perfect. Not too fussy, big and everything and more that one could possibly need for an enjoyable and relaxing stay. The location is perfect, on the edge of town, but then with a secret path going down to a quiet beach. The heated swimming pool was a winner too. Definitely booking to go back again!

14th consecutive year

Always less than the Turners who started renting this wonderful house 2 years before us! Quite unique property in being on the edge of town but at the back of a small beach which is never overcrowded but empty in the evening. This and the nature reserve extending as for as you can see makes the view very special. Very relaxing.

Beautiful vacation in an exceptional location

My family including our two grand children (9 and 11) spent a memorable week at La Couveuse. The views from the terrace overlooking the Mediterranean were exceptional. The grounds were filled with flowers, plants and trees which made waking up and viewing the sea a pleasure. The Villa is well maintained and equipped as the owners use the Villa frequently. This was our first visit and we enjoyed dining of the terrace, eating in town and visiting St. Tropez, close by. The sparkling swimming pool became the center of the children's activities. The terrace the center of much wine drinking. What was particularly important to us was the lack of any surprises. The owner's description of the premises was accurate; we were comfortable, in beautiful surroundings with plenty of hot water for showers and baths. The kitchen was well equipped; the bedrooms and adjoining bathroom facilities were modern and well maintained and we look forward to returning in future years.

Second time around!

Second time around in La Couveuse where we met with members of the family! A perfect retreat for everyone with beautiful meals prepared on the Plancha located on the patio! We explored the markets, walked downtown for fresh bread and "tropezienne", the local specialty! The property is extremely well maintained, agapanthus, oleanders, lantana cover the beautiful ground! We will be back as La Couveuse is a very special place!

The Villa and location was excellent!

We were a family of 11 celebrating an important birthday.Villa Le Couveuse was even more beautiful , spacious and comfortable than the pictures showed it to be. It was clean, well maintained and very well supplied with kitchen utensils , dishes , glassware ,etc which was important to us since we ate at home, outside, every night. We toured the area and enjoyed some wonderful restaurants for lunch recommended by the owner. He provided alot of very helpful information. The pool, beach, Boulles, ping pong were ideal for our game loving family . We would highly recommend this experience especially in May .The weather was perfect.. We hope to go back again in the not too distant future.

An idyllic getaway

We stayed at La Couveuse in low season and even then it was bright and warm. The sea was a bit chilly initially but great once you are in and the heated pool is large and very relaxing. The roads were quiet and the restaurants welcoming. I would definitely go back.

We bought La Couveuse in 1995. It was a wreck. We couldn't afford it but had to buy it for its unique location. It was a great decision. We weren't young at the time and restoring it was a challenge but an inspired English architect who was working locally as a plumber, He helped us transform it over the years including installing a swimming pool and terracing the gardens. It's now very special and our only regret is that we can't spend more time there. That means more people can rent it although, because we have so many repeat bookings, very few new people get a look in and most of those come through personal recommendations. That's why there are so many old reviews on VRBO. If that's a concern, we will let you talk to any of our regulars. They will reassure you that you won't regret renting La Couveuse.

Why they chose this property

It's said that the three key factors in renting a holiday home are location, location and location. Well, La Couveuse ticks all those boxes. Sit on the terrace and all you will see is the sea with the beach below and the hills on either side. Yet, astonishingly, you are only a few minutes walk to a supermarket and bit further to the village shops and the port The house itself is perfect for a family holiday or a group of close friends - spacious rooms with, we hope, all the creature comforts you need to relax and enjoy this special place. Children are welcome and there's need to worry about them damaging our treasured antiques or family heirlooms. There aren't any!

What makes this property unique

Holiday rental companies are always offering to act as letting agents for La Couveuse We prefer to decide ourselves who moves into our holiday home. It has paid off because many of our guests have become friends. One family has been every year since we bought it, another has come for 15 successive years and several for more than 10 years. We know we could charge more through an agency but dealing direct enables us to provide a personal service that we know our guests value.
