Wonderfully appointed Maine house/cottage

Our hostess Denise made our stay very comfortable. She was very kind and responsive. The house is super cute. We loved the ducks in the backyard! The house came with a well equipped kitchen including pancake mix and maple syrup! It was quite roomy for our family including adult children. The furniture (beds, couches and easy chairs) were very comfortable. The house is located just moments from Ellsworth and an easy drive (30-40 mins) to many of our favorite coastal destinations including: Deer Isle, Stonington, Schoodic Point, Winter Harbor, and all of Mount Desert Island including Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. The house is charming and decorated nicely with beautiful original art. We all agreed we would gladly stay here again!

Well-stocked rental with great location!

This rental provided a great home base for our sisters/cousins trip to Maine. It had everything we needed and more, was extraordinarily clean, and truly felt like home for the week. We drove to Acadia nearly every day and enjoyed the scenic drive. Ellsworth is charming and has great restaurants, without the crowds of Bar Harbor.

Ellsworth Falls

Beautiful old house, in great condition. Property was beautiful as well! Only issues was the property was to be pet friendly, but upon arrival and reading the notes they have dogs as well. Theses dogs have the run of the property, maybe let future guests know up front about the two dogs!

Perfect House & Host

This is our second time staying in one of Denise's properties. The home was large, impeccably clean, and was well stocked with all basic amenities. The original staircase and woodwork were absolutely gorgeous. There were plenty of quality towels and blankets to use during our stay. The coffee maker stopped working, and Denise had a brand new one basically on our doorstep within hours. Communication with her was great. The location is perfect for those wanting to explore Bar Harbor, Acadia, Lamoine, and other parts of Mt. Desert Island. You are minutes from grocery stores, gas stations, LL Bean, and the famous Reny's. We bought lobsters and chowder from Dorrs, which is only 2 minutes away, and cooked them at the house (which had ALL the pots and supplies needed). We would recommend visiting the crystal clear Branch Lake (arrive early) and Lamoine Beach. Overall, this house was great and we were so happy there during our 10 days in Maine. We will always stay in Denise's properties when returning!

Ellsworth worthy!

We really enjoyed our stay in Ellsworth - this location was close to the park and the pictures listed of the property do not do justice to the size of the place. It was clean and check-in was easy. We especially liked the kitchen and all its amenities. Two thumbs up from my family - we will be back!

Wonderful home close to lots to see!

The home was perfect for my 2 kids, husband and parents. Denise left very detailed directions on how to leave the house, things to see and do recommendations of places to get seafood. We have rented homes for almost ten years and we throughly enjoyed the house and time in Maine. I would strongly recommend this property for your stay near Acadia!

Charming Home close to Acadia National Park

Our family of 5 (including 3 boys 13, 12, 9 and our dog) spent a week in this lovely, spacious home in Ellsworth, Maine. It is a beautiful updated older home. The home has a lot of character with what appears to be much of the original hardword flooring, window trim, and doors. The rooms are tastefully decorated and there is a beautifully landscaped yard to enjoy. They have all the basic amenities for being able to prepare meals (though no dishwasher). This didn't bother us in the least and provided our boys the opportunity to see how with team work they could make quick work of the washing. This was a perfect location for us - close to Acadia National park for daily trips. It is also close to Bar Harbor for a visit but mercifully far away from the tourist traps and crowds. There was some early morning traffic noise but nothing that bothered us or took away from our visit. Denise was a fabulous host! She was easy to communicate with, helpful, kind and always answered our communications promptly. We would definitely stay here again if in the area!

Great House, Best Host, but the traffic ...

Overall, this stay has been our best VRBO experience. Wonderful, older New England house, well cared for. Exceptionally well-stocked with kitchen essentials and more (sharp knives, variety of cookware, more than enough plates, bowls, utensils plus variety of spices, foils, plastic wrap, bags). Nicely furnished living and dining rooms. Plenty of places to sit and relax. All the bedrooms have window mounted AC units for the few warm nights. More than enough towels, linens, pillows. A washer and dryer, essential for a longer stay. Beautiful grounds behind the house – apple trees, gardens, tables, umbrellas, chairs to dine outdoors or just sit and read. The house provides easy access to the Ellsworth Rail Trail, following the Down East Scenic Railroad tracks. We took our dogs for daily walks on the trail. The train runs twice a day only on weekends. Denise is the best! Fast response to requests and questions, before and during our stay. There is a guide to the house, a wealth of information on Ellsworth and the area. She has really thought of everything that makes this a great place to stay. We enjoyed our month in Ellsworth. (We particularly enjoyed and recommend the Provender Kitchen restaurant in town.) The only aspect of our stay that keeps me from a whole-hearted recommendation for this property is the traffic. Ellsworth is the gateway to Mount Desert Island, Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park. There is a constant stream of traffic through the town. We learned to plan our adventures around the congestion. Also, Maine 179 (North Street) bears significant heavy (logging, dump) truck traffic that starts with sunrise on weekdays. We could always leave the property easily enough, but the noise certainly disrupted an otherwise peaceful area; I only hope that it’s due to some construction projects that will end before long. The traffic is nothing our host can control. Outside of that, we appreciate the effort Denise has made to make the house an exceptional place to stay.

Great house for Acadia National Park vacation

The house certainly combines historic charm with modern comfort just as the listing promises. Acadia National Park is 30 mins away and the commute was comfortable. Denise is a wonderful host who has thought about all details, from the cleanliness to the basic supplies to the very helpful guide of restaurants and activities. Not to mention the pleasant surprise upon arrival (no spoilers here). Thank you!

Well appointed - perfect for family stay - enjoy Maine attractions

Comfortable two story old fashioned home, everything you need with plenty of privacy, small town setting. The house is a well restored old home, immaculate, not a speck of hidden dirt anywhere, no musty smells. Plenty of linens and kitchen equipment, you could cook and eat in with friends, or go out. It was very comfortable for a three week stay. Internet very fast (which is apparently not always the case in remote locations in Maine) The back yard is a large piece of land shared with several other homes, beautiful vegetable garden, where ducks, chickens and partridges are being raised. Kids would love it! The location is short driving distance to many of the coastal Maine outdoor attractions, not just Bar Harbor, but lakes, tidal rapids, hiking trails, etc. A long rail trail starts only several hundred yards from the property, which actually goes over a hundred miles to the Canadian border! Again, wonderful for families. Location feels very safe, rural but not particularly scenic (no water or mountain views) road in front is not busy, but an occasional truck goes by, but we soon did not notice it any more. It appears to be a country road shortcut used by locals. From what I could see, this is not unusual for living in Maine I would look forward to staying there again without hesitation!

We enjoy the outdoors as much as our work schedule allows. Maine offers so many great areas to explore hiking, boating, hunting, biking, skiing, bird watching, fishing. Nature never fails to provide constant entertainment.
While at home, we garden for fresh veggies, apples and berries. We also tend our small flock of chickens and ducks for fresh eggs every morning and have a flight pen for chukar partridges. We train our Brittany hunting dogs for field trials.
We have been landlords for 23 years for year round rentals and have converted three houses and an apartment to vacation rentals . We have spent a great deal of time outfitting our places so they would be comfortable, convenient - a place where everyone would feel at ease and at home.

Why they chose this property

The house is located in a residential neighborhood next to the host's home. It is part of a large campus of homes, guest rentals, gardens and forest also owned by the hosts.

If you have a large party such as a wedding, please ask us about our other vacation rentals that share a common backyard. We have two other houses and an executive apartment available.

The walk/bike trail head (rail to trail) is nearby that connects Ellsworth Falls to Downtown Ellsworth. 11 minutes by bike and 35 minutes on foot.

The Friends and Family Market (and Shell gas station) is about five minutes on foot.

Our favorite spot is Dorr's Fish Market across the street. They will cook lobsters for you so you can avoid the fuss or sample their delicious lobster rolls.
