Piece of Paradise

The location of the house was perfect - the daily sunsets where breathtaking. We found the house fully "stocked" with what we needed to be comfortable away from home. Plenty of linens, dishes, pots, pans and other staples. Having a washer and dryer available was a plus. The location was in a quiet neighborhood which allowed for peaceful enjoyment of the property.

Nice location on Great Bay close to beaches and Porthsmouth

A few things to know for potential renters: The is house is located at a beautiful spot on Great Bay, it's rustic and a bit old fashioned but has most things you might need. 2 of the sleeping areas has no real doors. The host Perry Johnson is very nice and accommodating and is around on a regular basis, often staying at the house just next door. The dock is a bit wobbly and takes some time getting used to but does the trick. Best feature of the house is the expansive deck with excellent table and seating to relax or eat dinners outdoors. The sunsets at this property are spectacular. Overall a nice place with good amenities and close to many great spots worth exploring.

Charming bayfront property

Our family, plus some adult cousins, spent two nights at this property. The owner was nearby and very helpful and friendly. He responded to our questions quickly and had great tips for our stay. We traveled to the area for a wedding and everyone else stayed in a hotel in Portsmouth. We all agreed we made the right decision. It was just what we needed to relax before and after the Big Day!

Perry and the location are special

It’s a beautiful setting on Great Bay. Perry is warm and welcoming and will do anything to make your trip enjoyable. He took my son and husband fishing on his boat and then came back and took my husband and 3 kids tubing. Way above and beyond the call of duty!

Fantastic views better than the pics

Our stay was wonderful. Perry made sure all of our needs were taken care of. The view from the deck is amazing...and it’s real not a stock photo. We probably took 100 pictures of the sunset while we were there.

Our Favorite Vacation Spot for 8 Yrs & Counting!!

We have been coming to the Johnson House since our son was a toddler and our 9 Year Old daughter took her first steps 8 years ago and have been coming back ever since. This home is so welcoming we always have family visit and stay with us a few days since there is plenty of room for all 8 of us! We love the deck overlooking the bay where we relax with a book, play games, snack on food or just enjoy the scenery. Every evening we can't wait to watch the beautiful sunset over the water or take a walk/bike ride around the quiet scenic neighborhood where we have met some lovely people over the years. The children enjoy hanging out at either of the 2 private docks to play or fish daily and have also enjoy taking canoe rides as there is a canoe and 2 kayaks available. Our son looks forward to taking rides on the Perry's motorboat as well as getting some free fishing advice. The home also provides internet service-so you can enjoy your morning coffee on the deck, while catching up on the morning news. Any suggestion for individual needs is always encouraged and welcome. The attention to detail in this vacation rental as well as the hospitality and warm generosity of the owners is what makes us return year after year!

A little piece of paradise

This little cabin on the Great Bay in Greenland is perfect! I can't say enough kind words about Perry Johnson, our host. He is so willing to do anything to make your stay perfect. Because of allergies, we do all of our own cooking. So having a well stocked kitchen is important to us. There is everything you could want in this kitchen. Dishes, glasses, bowls, pans, pans, pans, bakeware, storage containers, silverware, knives, etc Lots of choices for grocery stores nearby and Portsmouth has a very nice, little farmers' market every Saturday morning. Washer and dryer in the basement. All of the equipment and the home has been lovingly maintained and is in good condition. The neighbors are friendly, the views are spectacular, the atmosphere is peaceful and the house is well stocked with linens and supplies. The furniture is comfy and more than ample. There is a TV and cable access in every room. The wi-fi is fast. There are balconies off of both of the upstairs bedrooms. There is a huge porch with great furniture both front and back. There is a boat deck off the back of the property that is an easy walk down the stairs. We enjoyed sitting on it when the tide came in. Large gardens in the front of the house - I particularly loved the lemon thyme and all of the flowers that I picked for bouquets. We definitely enjoyed the wildlife - squirrels and chipmunks everywhere, driving in we've seen wild turkeys, a woodchuck, a turtle, and lots of birds, big bumblebees and beetles. Birds calling from off the Bay. We did a lot of sightseeing using the cabin as our base. We traveled through New Hampshire, into Maine and south into Massachusetts. There are so many great historical sites to visit nearly and especially in Portsmouth. The shopping in Portsmouth was great. Tons of unique little shops and many, many restaurants. And antique stores in every town. We celebrated our daughter's birthday while we were there and there was an amazing bakery just down the 33. The chocolate cake was killer. We really fell in love with the cabin and Greenland. Thanks Perry for a lovely stay!!

Our Christmas week at the Johnson House couldn't have been any better!!!!!! Clean and cheerful

I would highly recommend the Johnson House for anyone interested in a New Hampshire getaway. The property is located on a beautiful street with a 180 degree panoramic view of the bay. Nine of us stayed comfortably in this well designed, and clean home. Can't thank Mr. Perry Johnson enough for constantly checking up on us to make sure our week long stay was incredible. Respectfully, Chris Bentley Pompano Beach, Fl

Great place for a weekend away

I stayed here recently with some friends of mine for the weekend and the place was perfect. Beautiful views right on the water, the house was clean, well kept and very comfortable. Perry was very helpful with anything we needed as well. I would definitely stay here again.

A Wonderful Stay

The house was very clean, cozy, and homely. I am a city type of girl who enjoys modern amenities, but I found myself loving this country cottage. The house was loaded with charms and nice antique displays, and I was surprisingly attached to the country kitchen table where my family gathered for many happy hours. There was something about the layout of this house that made it so unique, and I agreed with other renters that it had almost everything! All three bedrooms were spacious. 1st floor bedroom and bathroom was in close proximity of each other’s and was built with an elderly person in mind. My 81 yrs old mom slept there. 2nd floor had a bedroom with a queen size bed and another bedroom with two twin beds with no door. There was a bathroom with a shower attached to the bedroom with the twin beds. The deck was built to capture the sunset and the view was simply spectacular inside/outside the house. Stunning water views in the living room and in all the bedrooms. I took lots of pictures. We stayed for four gorgeous days, and we had breakfast outside the deck every morning. There were two boating docks equipped with a kayak and two canoes, which both my husband and daughter enjoyed. No luck fishing at the dock though. Perry, the owner, was a genuinely kind and generous man - not the typical rental owner one usually encountered. Thank you Perry! We truly treasured the fond memories staying at your house.

The Perfect Place for a Family Vacation!

This was the perfect place for a family vacation! As soon as we arrived, Perry gave us a detailed tour of the house as well as some tips for enjoying the bay. The house is clean and comfortable and has everything you need. It is cozy and down-to-earth in the decor and amenities and the deck is an amazing place to just sit back and relax or have a nice evening meal. The private dock is great for swimming or just hanging out and watching the tidal changes. The location is perfect with a trip to the ocean beaches only 30 minutes away and stores within 10 minutes for anything you might need to buy. We highly recommend the Johnson house and hope to return again for more great times at the Great Bay!

Best rental in NH!

I can't say enough good things about the Johnson house. I've rented in the Portsmouth/Rye area many times over the past 10 years, and this is by far the best rental in terms of accommodations, location, view, and especially hospitality! Perry could not be more accommodating: he really wants you to feel like you're home when you're here. We will certainly return. Thank you, Perry!

Relax and enjoy the view

My husband and I along with two grown children had a wonderful experience at the Johnson House in Greenland. The property is clean, comfortable and has everything you could possibly need. The view is spectacular. We spent time swimming, biking, kayaking the bay and my son and husband enjoyed kayaking rivers as well. It is very relaxing and quiet. Just a short drive to Portsmouth and beaches. (The water in the bay is warmer than the beaches.) The owner, Perry, is very accommodating and helpful. I would highly recommend this property.

Great for Girl's Weekend

We stayed at the house this past weekend and had a fabulous time! The house was perfect for our annual girl's weekend. It is set back in a secluded neighborhood, quiet and beautiful view, right on the water! It was just a short distance to travel into Portsmouth center. The house had everything we could need. The beds were comfortable, it was very clean and warm. The owner was wonderful in showing us around and accomodating us. We look forward to returning again some year! Thank you!

A Delightful Experience !

After spending the first couple of days of a 1 week vacation in the Johnson House, my wife and I quickly came to appreciate all the work and care the owners put into this place to make it a " cozy, warm, clean, and comfortable home" to stay in. So many nice personal touches, like the books, the herb garden out front, the fully equipped kitchen, etc., etc.....Everthing you needed in a home was there. And the location is exceptional, quiet and peaceful, nestled in the woods by a beautiful bay, yet only a very short ride to stores and other attractions. The owners, Perry and his wife Linda, were very nice people to deal with and we appreciated their hospitality. Our stay at the Johnson Home was a very positive experience and we highly recommend it !

Our favorite place, out of 24 years of vacations!

The view is amazing...both from inside the cozy living room, as well as from out on the deck (no matter what the weather!) We think they have the best site on the Bay coast! Clean, well-stocked. Very attentive/personable owner who is only a phone call away. Beautiful residential neighborhood for daily dog walks. This is the only rental in the area, that's why no one's heard of it! Close to lots of fun places (Portsmouth, Ogunquit, Kittery, York, Hampton) if you're in the mood to get out...and fireplace, comfy furniture if you just want to relax. Close to lots of things, yet feels so far away! This has been our favorite place to vacation, out of 24 years of vacations, so far. We're already signed up for next year...and we have not yet returned to the same place twice, as we like variety, but the Johnson House has everything we've been looking for, at a reasonable price. Perry's boat ride added a nice touch and allowed us an even better sense of The Bay. The visitor's center made for an interesting afternoon, to learn about the unique wildlife and plant materials at the Estuary, and bird watching was plentiful. Garden with herbs, which we could cut, for cooking. Dishwasher, washer/dryer, 2 bathrooms, queen size bed. Views from every room, and verandas from the 2, second floor bedrooms. Friendly neighbors. Quiet. We stayed 2 weeks, one with family (5 of us comfortably, next year, we're going to invite 2 more); and one week alone. Perfect.

Beautiful Place and great hosts.

Even though we picked a week of constant rain and thunderstorms, the house and view were great. With two small children, we had all the comforts of home which was very helpful since we were indoors much of the time. The owners, Perry and Linda were terrific hosts and great people making sure we had everything we needed. We hope to go back next year and take advantage of the beautiful views when the weather is nicer! Thanks again to Perry and Linda for an enjoyable visit and for the boat ride during the brief patch of sun. Our son can't stop talking about it!
