Nordic Fest weekend

The property lists as having air conditioning with the air conditioning was not adequate for cooling the space during the 90° temperatures of late July. The air really did not reach the bedrooms . Ceiling fans are helpful but ,again, did not help in the bedroom. Perhaps you could consider some sort of small fans in there to help with the circulation for summer. Found The cabin it was very comfortable and otherwise we'll equipped. I loved the setting surrounding the property.

Quiet getaway

We had a wonderful stay! The cabin was decorated beautifully, rooms and beds were comfortable, and the land it sits on is the real attraction. We couldn't get down into the spring next to the property but spent so much time outside on the porch (which we loved!) and in the yard watching birds, deer, and rabbits. It was so peaceful.

Kayaking

A good central location for kayaking in the area, and close to the Bear Creek access area for nature walks. A trout access is right across the road--don't let the "Private Property" sign put you off.

Cute, cozy, comfortable

A little bit of a drive from downtown Decorah but worth it! The drive with its beautiful views of the lush rolling hills and countryside dotted by picture perfect farm homes and gardens goes by quickly. The cabin is cute and cozy, perfect for two. The topper, the out of the world views of the star packed nightime skies.

Tranquility

We really enjoyed location, it was so peaceful and quiet. Loved the hummingbirds. The cabin was decorated well with several thoughtful amenities. The evening views from front porch beautiful! Sunset in back of cabin equally beautiful. Prompt response from host also a plus. We are looking forward to staying at the little red cabin again!!

Perfect end of summer getaway!

The Bear Creek Bungalow was the perfect, relaxing getaway to end the summer! Our family (2 adults and 3 kids) enjoyed some (cold!) stream stomping, fishing across the road, playing yard games, swinging in the tree swing, and roasting marshmallows. The distance to Decorah wasn’t too far and we enjoyed exploring Ice Cave and the DNR Trout Hatchery, with a stop for ice cream at The Sugar Bowl. The cabin is well stocked for cooking meals which we took advantage of, and the sleeping arrangements were comfortable. It was a wonderful stay in a beautiful setting, and we would be happy to come back again!

Peaceful, quiet get-away with crystal clear bubbling brook!

I booked this rental looking for a chance to get away for a few days and soak up some peace and lots of nature, and this proved to be perfect for my little mini-vacation! I love porches in general, and the front porch on this cabin is wonderful. I loved sitting out there reading and watching birds; the meadow across the road was filled with blooming wild flowers and lots of birds. I wandered the immediate area and even got to see Pileated Woodpeckers! I also found some great places to hike in the Decorah area. Not exactly wilderness, but lovely just the same. And the spring/creek next to the cabin was amazing! I have never seen such clean, clear water in Iowa---no silt or algae or scum, just the clearest water you can imagine---wow! I didn't know there was water like that anywhere in Iowa... The area is billed as being the best area to fish in the state, and I can believe it. The cabin itself was very clean and well-kept, and had just about everything you could imagine needing. I can be a bit of a snob about the pans I use to cook with, and after many grim experiences with rental cabins in which one is provided with old, scratched "non-stick" Teflon pans with all the Teflon flaking off, I have started bringing my own pans with me. I needn't have done so here! There's a whole set of decent, stainless steel pans---not a flake of old Teflon anywhere. Just about anything you might need is there. I had worried a bit about being right next to the road, but there's very little traffic on Bear Creek Road at all. Yes, it's a dirt road and there is dust, but it's a minor issue when so few vehicles actually pass by. I went on this trip by myself, but I can imagine this would be a wonderful place for a family with young children. So much for kids to explore! And I know from previous experience that there are great biking trails around Decorah itself and places to rent all sorts of bikes. All-in-all I had a lovely time here and highly recommend it for anyone looking for peace and quiet and a bit of time in the country while being close to a sweet town like Decorah. My one and only complaint is that I'm short (I have to stretch to hit 5'4"), and trying to get anything in and out of the microwave on top of the refrigerator was a real pain. Other than that, it was perfect!
