About this property

A New Kind of Philanthropy

Erik’s Retreat is a nonprofit organization that offers upscale guest accommodations run by young adults with autism. They are concierges. Chefs. Tour guides. All for whom meaningful careers are scarce.

You're part of the solution.

When you stay with us, you’ll be centrally located with wonderful amenities, all while providing living quarters, social opportunities, and significant work for our members. This room contains one queen bed, an executive desk, a Keurig, and an elegant European-style 3/4 bath. It can comfortably accommodate up to two guests.

Every room offers a Smart TV, Wi-Fi, complimentary coffee and tea, breakfast delivery, and daily housekeeping.

Welcome to Erik's Retreat. Where vision knows no bounds.

COVID-19 Response: Just like you, all of us at Erik’s Ranch & Retreats are working hard to keep everyone comfortable and safe. You can rest assured that our rooms are cleaned spotlessly after check outs, and that our crews are safely masked and gloved. We are taking every precaution to keep our staff, members, and guests at ease during this uncertain time. Here is what we are doing between stays, as a commitment to our guests comfort:

1. Sanitizing all hard surfaces including handles and floors.

2. All bedding—including comforters cleaned prior to each visit.

3. Will provide you with disinfectant on site so you can design your own comfort.

Hidden Treasure

Very easy, no-contact check-in. Location was convenient drive to places of interest. Decor was old-fashioned Victorian and added a fun atmosphere. Room had plenty of towels and amenities and was very clean. Really enjoyed our one-night stay.

Technical Difficulties...But Great Customer Service

We arrived at Erik's Retreat the evening of our stay and were disappointed to discover that there was not a room available for us, because the reservation did not transfer through from Vrbo to the property, despite the fact that the booking had gone through and I had already paid in full. We were put in contact with the manager (I believe his name was Peter), who apologized for the inconvenience and booked us a room himself at a nearby hotel of comparable value. I can't speak for the quality of Erik's Retreat itself, as we didn't actually stay there, but I do appreciate Peter's willingness to find us a solution, even though the issue was clearly technological and not their fault. 4/5 stars is because it took 10-15 minutes to locate an employee to speak to about checking in when we arrived.

Stay at Erik’s Retreat

My husband and I stayed here for his birthday. We went to a comedy show in Minneapolis. Loved the location as it was close to everything we needed to get to. Room was clean and very sophisticated and I loved the upscale shower. Felt like a 5 star hotel!!

Great location

The property has a great location. The bed was wonderful. Unfortunately due to Covid there was no room service, or breakfast muffin. Also we have done extensive traveling and found the coffe maker in the room challenging.

About the host

Our story began in 2008 as Kathryn Nordberg, CEO and founder of Erik's Ranch & Retreats, searched for options that would provide her son, Erik, a moderately functioning young adult on the autism spectrum, the kind of life he deserves – active and full of possibility, independence and purpose. She quickly found that there were few good options for moderate - to high-functioning young adults with autism, including those with Asperger’s syndrome. Despite years of hard work, even those high-functioning individuals often look for a community that offer some level of structure and support in their lives – with living accommodations, relationship building, social opportunities, meaningful work and recreation. So, in the past few years, Kathryn and a team of psychologists, attorneys, architects and marketing and business professionals have developed an innovative model for young adults with autism: Erik's Ranch & Retreats, with locations in Edina, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis, and in Montana's Paradise Valley, not far from Bozeman.

Kathryn has the background – and the vision – necessary for this important living, working and social environment for young adults with autism. She has held executive positions with organizations in technology, packaged goods and health care, and has leadership experience in organizational planning, management and marketing. For the past decade, she has helped run the largest privately held assisted living facility in Minnesota, seeing firsthand, how residents benefit from a consistent caring and dedicated staff. To that end, she streamlined the documentation process and improved efficiencies to allow nursing staff more time for personalized care. Kathryn's goal for a better life for those with autism is the foundation behind Erik's Ranch & Retreats.
