About this property
Lovely Medieval Townhouse between Rome and Florence with exceptional views
Beautiful views, delicious food, in the centre of the Etruscan countryside in Italy between Rome and Florence. What more could you want in this lovely medieval hilltop town in Umbria. The perfect place for and artist or writer or cook to retreat. Two double bedrooms and two bathrooms, sitting room with balcony and a large kitchen with terraces and panoramic views and small terraced garden. House to rent for short or long lets.
Casa Meravigliosa is as it says is a "Marvellous House", sits on the top of a white truffle hill in a little medieval village equidistant from Rome and Florence. The house is newly renovated, but has kept all the charm of being several 100 years old. The owner is a chef so the kitchen is well equipped. The bedrooms all have their own bathrooms. There are balconies on all floors and a small terraced garden. There is easy parking which is unusual for an historic italian town. There are shops, cafés in the village and short walk down the hill to a couple of bistros/pizzerias so you don't have to have a car if you want to stay put and read, write and paint (the perfect place for an artist or writer). There is a train station nearby with direct trains to Rome and Florence which are just over an hour away.
There are thermal baths nearby in the historic town of San Casciano del Bagni, Orvieto is 20 minutes away where there are very good restaurants and a wonderful Duomo (cathedral). Umbria is well known for producing very good wine such as the sagrantino grape from Montefalco which is not far from the famous town Assisi where Saint Francis came from. There is a beautiful garden near Fabro called La Scarzuola where St.Francis is said to have levitated.
Its a 2 hours drive to the Mediterranean coast to Porto Ercole or San Sebastiano if you long for the sea, it is a nice day trip. There is a bicycle in the cellar which you can use if you want to explore at a slow pace. The walks are very pretty too!

About the host
Your host

I am half Swedish and Half Finnish and have lived in Italy since 2009. I have had three restaurants (2 in London) and made a television programme with Jamie Oliver about Stockholm. I teach cooking and have started a kitchen garden project for schools in Sweden. Italy is the best place to be if you are a foodie!
Why they chose this property
My family have always had homes in Italy so I was determined when I grew up that I would do the same. I fell in love with Fabro because of its unique charm and beauty and no tourists! Umbria is one of the lovely districts with its rolling hills and farmland. It is wonderful to be close to Rome and Florence where I often go for day trips with my friends. I am also near Siena and Perugia, so Casa Mervigliosa is well placed for exciting sightseeing.
What makes this property unique
I am lucky to live in a very old but at the same time very modern house. It is small and perfectly formed.
