Tucked into the woods with a gorgeous cobblestone fireplace and an open floor plan, this cottage is perfect for preparing meals together and relaxing the North Woods. The cottage was built in the 1930's makes a great spot for those who crave a bit of a rustic yet nostalgic retreat.

Located just off the North Shore, only a few minutes from Cascade State Park, and 15 minutes from Grand Marais "the coolest small town in America", this cottage is the perfect place to settle in and explore all that Cook County has to offer!

Beautiful private cabin centrally located

There was a blown fuse, problem with the heat, but they took care of it right away, and it was no problem. I love the fireplace, and the privacy, and the porch.

Cozy cottage in the north woods

We highly recommend this cottage filled with interesting art, games, firewood for the fireplace and close proximity to trails, shops and great dining. It has everything you need for a short or long visit to the North Shore. Wonderful!

Our Favorite North Shore Cabin

My husband and I have been staying here since 2020, when I booked the cabin as a "work from home/social distancing" getaway. It quickly became our favorite! Peaceful, rustic (but not TOO rustic), and cozy -- the perfect North Shore escape.

Peaceful Getaway

My partner and I brought our dogs up for the weekend hoping for a snowy stay. Though we did not get any snow, our stay was beautiful and cozy. We really enjoyed having the fireplace and easy access to as much firewood as we needed! We loved it and would absolutely stay again. The gift shop is super cute and I was able to meet Danni in person there as well, and she was lovely. Definitely recommend staying here for easy access to hiking, skiing, or a cozy getaway in the woods!

Always Great

This was our second stay at North Country cottages. The cottage is quaint, well equipped and had peekaboo views of the lake. We could even hear the waves crashing. The fireplace is perfect. We will certainly be back again.

We really enjoyed our stay at this sweet little cottage. It is in the perfect location for all the area has to offer and being able to bring our two pups along was awesome. We will definitely return soon!

Our 2nd stay at this adorable little cabin. Very clean and very cozy. Love the little touch of the little wild flowers placed in the different rooms. Owners make it so easy for check in and out. Hope to make the 3rd visit very soon.

Really cute cabin

We enjoyed our stay. The cabin is cute and well-furnished and the layout is great. Perfect for a family with dogs. It was close to all of the parks we wanted to see and to Grand Marais. Be warned that the area has a ton of mosquitoes and they find their way into the cabin. The only issue we experienced was that the fireplace flue closed unexpectedly while we had a fire going and wouldn’t stay open. Hopefully it’s an easy fix.

Perfect!

Our stay couldn't have been better! We spent our honeymoon at this cute little cottage and wouldn't have changed a thing. It's quiet and away from the hustle and tourism in town, but yet close enough to all of the parks and trails you could possibly desire. You could hear the waves from lake Superior crashing against the rocks while laying in bed. Thank you again for having us!

Short, quiet getaway

Was looking for a short getaway on the North Shore. This cottage did not disappoint. I had to make a few changes to my reservation and the owners were very prompt with communication and flexible with my changing needs. The cottage was very clean and I had a fantastic stay. I hope to be able to come again.

Cozy & quiet, but has some needs

We stayed 5 nights, the fireplace was the highlight for us with an endless supply of firewood and starters. We loved the fireplace! Communication was good with the owner via texting. The listing stated (at the time of our stay) they had conditioner, but they only had 3 in 1 body wash, shampoo and bubble bath. The owner brought us some conditioner and extra towels the next morning, which was appreciated. Some maintenance issues with the well pump, it's getting air so the water spurts out periodically, which was annoying in the shower and the kitchen faucet leaks at the base. We planned to make most of our meals in house, just wish we would have brought a couple of good knives and a skillet. Storage containers for left-overs, baggies, tin foil, small bowls, etc would be nice to have in the kitchen as well. The box spring, mattress, sheets and one of the blankets look and feel quite old. Neither my husband and I slept good all week. We could feel each other's movements throughout the night as it jiggled the entire bed. It was firm and unsupportive, leaving us to feel sore in the morning and without good sleep. We're in our 40's and usually never have a problem with the beds when traveling. The pullout sofa didn't have sheets or blankets on it and we couldn't find them anywhere. If the bed and bed linens get replaced we would definitely come here again. It was a quiet, cozy and relaxing place to get away.

Another great stay

I’ve stayed at North Country Cottages 7 times and it is always a good time. Strong internet signal allows my wife to work while I read and walk the dog and enjoy the fireplace. Close to Grand Marais which is my favorite place in Minnesota.

We moved here from Chicago in 2013 looking to settle down in the North Woods and start a family. Our love of nature was a driving force. We were always trying to vacate the big city for camping and hiking excursions, so we decided that before we tried for children it would be great to put down roots somewhere very outdoor focused, so that our hopeful children would grow up surround by nature.

Danielle was born and raised in Minnesota and couldn’t wait to get back “home.” Spending time on the North Shore from the time she was 2, it always held a special place in her heart. Carl was born and raised in Ohio, but fell in love with the area on a visit in 2012.

We got married on the shore of Lake Superior shortly after moving here, bought our first home two years later, and were happy to welcome our first child in to the world in 2016! It’s been an incredible journey since we moved to the North Woods and the opportunity to become business owners has just added to the adventure.

We are so grateful to call these cottages ours, and will continue to put our time and efforts into improving on what is already here and so lovely.
