The Benagil Beach Bungalow was a perfect house and location for myself, husband and two young adult sons. The surroundings were lively at the start of the day and then quiet by night. It had a unique layout however functional and full of amenities. The back bedroom could use updated beds and bedding, although the overall home was comfortable. It was very convenient to restaurants, boating, swimming and hiking.

Benagil Beach Home
Overall, the property was OK. However, the following points were disappointing: 1) The property was described as quiet and intimate - this was, however, not the case at all: there was extremely loud music from the beach bar from 2 pm to 8 pm every day. 3) Tourists left their garbage in front of the gate. 3) Several times, people opened the gate and walked onto the patio to take a selfie. They even left their belongings before going to the beach, although we were home. Thus, the gate should be better secured and labeled "private property." Given this mismatch between the online description and advertisement and the reality, the price tag for this beach home was too high. We have rented houses via VRBO regularly, and we have never experienced such a mismatch between the description of "being quiet and intimate" and the reality of "extremely loud music and tourist interruptions on the property itself.
We visited in mid June and had a great time. The view was amazing. We enjoyed laying out on the patio and watching the action on the beach below. The beach was busy during the day (10 am to 8 pm) but quiet in the mornings and at night. For us, that was the best of both worlds. There are a three or four restaurants within walking distance but you will have to drive for the grocery store. There is a lot of walking up and down. The apartment was immaculate and the hosts were very organized. Check in process was easy.

Great location-unbeatable views!
We loved our stay at the Benagil beach house. The view from the deck is incredible. Being able to walk to the beach in one minute is awesome. However, a few things to know before you go: 1. Communication is with a property management company and we asked for more blankets, toilet paper, and did not receive. The maid only comes once a week so if you miss that date for requests, nothing else will come. 2. It’s tricky with a car! It’s lots of stairs to get to so pack wisely and bring grocery bags for your groceries that are durable for a bit of a walk in! Parking is only in public parking areas in town. The house is quite literally on the cliff so there is no road access. But that’s what makes the views so epic!! 3. There was no toilet paper provided and they ask you not to flush any toilet paper. Not a deal breaker but just something to note!

Busy spot.
The beach was very busy during the day with bumping music beginning at 9am. No privacy on deck. People walk onto deck thinking it’s the walking trail between beaches.
A good spot for young adults. Pictures make it look remote and private, it’s beautiful but very public and busy.
Also, no actual access to caves from beach level.
This charming cottage is right on the beach, which you will pretty much have to yourself in the early morning and evenings/nights. It was also quiet all day on the Sunday we were there. The patio is stunning. There are fantastic restaurants so close you can see them from your patio. You are about at the half-way point on the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail, an easy walk to Praia de Marinha (1/2 hour tops). We were always able to find free parking just above the cottage. It is a STEEP walk on stairs and pavement both down to the beach and up to the parking but well worth it if you can manage it.
Pure magic. I told my husband that I thought this listing had to be fake because for the price, right ON THE BEACH, 3BR 2BTH, absolute perfection. This beach bungalow is in the side of a cliff at the very edge of Benagil. Overlooking the famous beach and facing ocean with cliff face, it could not be more picturesque. The house was perfect for family because it is narrow with no hall across bedrooms but the trade off of the unique, super special location is no contest. Only ask I would have for hosts is please leave a little coffee to at least get guests through a morning or two to find groceries. Walking to coffee, ice cream and at least four restaurants including Algar which was as good as any five star we’ve dined at. Best view and most special location I’ve ever stayed anywhere in the world.
Unbeatable location perched above beautiful Benagil beach. Unrivalled views from the terrace which was a fantastic place to sit - so close to the beach but a tranquil retreat from the August chaos! It was especially beautiful in the evenings when the beach was quiet - no better place to eat in Benagil!
Only slight issue was fact that there was only one key - others have commented on this, but it did mean that the bedroom nearest the kitchen has to be walked through to get to the second bedroom. Would be so much better if two parts of the house could be self- contained! Also, there is no supermarket in Benagil - you do have to drive to the nearest supermarket. We arrived late at night and a few provisions for breakfast would have been so welcome - even just a bottle of water in the fridge! These were small problems - we had a wonderful stay in Benagil in this very special house and would thoroughly recommend it!
Words cannot describe THE most spectacular view!!!
Location is literally overlooking stunning Benagil Beach- A narrow and busy beach during the day. The listing beach pic must have been taken before 8am because directly beneath /about 1/4 of the beach is taken up by the boat/kayak tours launch. There are ALOT of cave boat/kayaks tours passing by all day long. But really fun to watch it all the action from high above and we didn't mind it at all. Beach starts to empty by 5:30pm and it's totally quiet and peaceful after that. There is a beach front restaurant right below with good pizza. A new beach club/restaurant with lounge music just a few steps above that gives you access to their plunge pool if you eat/drink there. 2 other restaurants at this spot. You will need a car if you want to do groceries 11mins away. Easiest parking is at the top of the hill and you will have to walk down 3 sets of steps. A short walk across the parking lot at the top leads you to the beautiful and quiet Carvalho Beach. Villa has a cute cottage feel, clean and everything you need. The huge deck and outdoor living space is amazing. ACs only in the BRs so we had to request a fan that was perfect for the main living room/kitchen. The configuration is such that all the rooms are lined up in a row- you have to walk through all the rooms to get from one side to the other but still all very spacious! Both bathrooms are dated and one in need of a major makeover. Overall - it's a great place with an unforgettable view!

Great views with issues
We had been looking forward to our stay in Benagil. While the views were amazing, we did have issues. The air conditioning never worked in either bedroom during our stay. We were notified they'd identified a compressor failure, however 2 days after we'd left. The bedrooms were 39 C by afternoon and would only reach 29 C by morning with all windows open in the entire house. Since windows had to be open, our sleep was terrible as there is activity all night on and to the beach (e.g. garbage crew cleanup at 1am, cleaning crew with leaf blowers at 3am, beach cleaning crew 4-7am, then hundreds of visitors show up and literally walk in front of bedroom window). With the windows open and all the activity, we also had a safety concern. We did not have a single good night's rest during our 4 days and found the overall stay miserable due to the heat and noise. Our daughter ended up with some sort of unidentified bug bites all over her back and arms that cleared up upon leaving. In addition, the morning sun is brutal when you'd like to enjoy the patio and view with a coffee. We'd have liked to have seen a few beach chairs and umbrellas with flat as most visitors aren't traveling with those.
The beach itself was very rough for 2 of the 4 days there and 60% of beach length was completely covered in seaweed. The surf made it unswimmable for children.
We had 4 other rentals while in Portugal and rated all 5 stars. We would not recommend this location, especially during summer.
We loved our stay at Benagil. The home was amazing, the views astounding, the location perfect for a six-day getaway. The home was clean, bright, comfortable and well maintained and my wife was particularly fond of the heated floors during our early spring stay. It was good that we rented a car so that we could keep the fridge stocked, but we availed ourselves of the many outstanding restaurants nearby. We should note that because the house is perched along a walkway down the cliffs, we often found morning hikers sharing the porch for a moment or two, until they understood it was a private residence.
Logement chaleureux, très bien équipé et décoré, bon emplacement au calme. On entend un peu les voisins d'au dessus marcher mais c'est correct. Logement sympa pour découvrir les environs !
We loved the property. The view and accessibility to the beach and trails was excellent. The cottage was well equipped and nicely decorated. We would stay again! We absolutely loved the terrace and view of the ocean and cliffs.
The views from house were breathtaking!! The house is a good size for two families. Loved , loved , loved all the views from the family room and kitchen windows. Great location to the caves with lots of hiking trails. I will definitely be back !!!
incredible location, simply world beating. the property itself is a little quirky and too big for just 2 adults i guess. if there were more then the sleeping arrangements would be a bit of a challenge too due to the nature of the property.
That said, still nicely decorated and well fitted. Make sure you get your Uber account set up before you go as you will need it if yuou dont have a car.
