Second stay

Our second stay at the property, this time with our family. Such a cozy weekend. Even though there was less snow than our last stay, it was still a great time! The perfect location for a quite weekend getaway.

Home improvements needed

House equipped with all essentials & close to Lake Tahoe. Nice 2.5 mile hike to Meeks Bay Resort to visit family. Coffee shop, pub, burger joint, & post office 5-10 minute walk. Groceries near by but take your own bags…10 cents each. Only tried the coffee & it was good. Home definitely in need of some upgrades. The beds were comfortable, the couch was not. I will address details with owner. All in all, an enjoyable stay & great memories with my family. Thank you for making your home available.

Older but comfortable

The description of the property was very accurate. It was older property but provided a comfortable environment for family. very well stocked with anything you might need. The back deck wasn’t really useable for meals or entertaining as there was no furniture but it was great for the dog to have an outdoor area that was fenced in. The owner was very detailed in communications and provided all info needed.

Lovely place!

We loved this cabin! It's actually bigger than the photos. Inside was very comfortable, well supplied, the rooms were nice and beds very comfortable! Communication was great and owners were very easy to work with! Cabin is also in a quiet neighborhood and not right next to another cabin-a plus! It was very relaxing and peaceful-we loved it!

It's a nice little place

I like the location. Going south, you can get to Sugar Pine and Emerald Lake. Going North easy to get onto high way 80. I showed my daughter what's DVD and VCR and they enjoyed high school musical serial. My parent liked the place as well. Kitchen is well equipped.

A comfortable place with everything you need

This cozy cabin is well-equipped like a primary home would be and it is located in a quiet Tahoe neighborhood not far from the lake. It is centered on a big wooded lot so there is space between it and neighbors on all sides. It worked well for my elderly mom. I appreciated the warm sun on the outdoor picnic table in the morning. One night I startled a couple of bears (and they startled me!) as they ran through through the property when I happened to be outside. We checked each other out and then we all moved on :) We would look forward to staying here again.

Family fun

This is a mellow property in a quiet and charming part of Tahoe (west shore). We found the local activities pretty relaxing (summer visit). We also loved the suggested activities by our host Roberta. Many things are walking distance. Others you could bike or quick car ride. Her cabin is quiet, clean and comfortable. She has WiFi, board games and movies. We would stay here again.

Cozy and very clean!

We had a great time in the the cabin! Great location with enough space for family fun in the snow. The cabin is squeaky clean, well stocked and very family friendly. (We are 2 adults and 5 boys) The owner is very nice and easy to get a hold of. There is a small market (Tahoe Market and Deli) just 2 mins away where you find many essentials plus the Deli,(fresh pizza was yummy).

The perfect place to relax

We couldn't have been happier with our stay. The house was cozy and just right for the 6 of us. We found everything we needed in the kitchen, which was huge because we cooked every meal there during our 7 day stay. The spacious yard around the house was great so that our 2 black labs could play and run a bit. And the close proximity to the lake and to lots of hiking, XC skiing and snowshoeing made our stay just right!

About the host

Host profile image
Hi,
I am Roberta and I live near Seattle. For many years, I served on the Board of Directors of our Tahoe Cedars Property Owners Association. I started and edited the organization's newsletter, the Tahoma Tattler. I am retired, but continue to work as a volunteer and participate in several organizations. I have served in various capacities for these various organizations. I have also performed as a Scandinavian folk dancer and with a Nordic Women's Choir.
My daughter Terry now helps with managing our home, and my grandsons are learning about caring for our cabin and property as well.

Each year we make improvements...
2016: A concrete step onto the deck and a ramp. New bathroom lights and cabinets. Bear fencing to prevent break-ins.
2017: A programmable thermostat.
2018: A socket with 2 USB ports. A flat-screen Smart TV to go with the DVD player and VCR. Beach chairs.
2019: Safety features - 2 outdoor cameras, new fire extinguishers, new dual smoke/CO2 alarms, additional smoke alarms, and a battery backup for the router. Battery-operated lantern, rechargeable flashlights, and night lights in each bedroom. Motion-sensing outdoor lamps by each outside door. Keyless lock at the side door. A living room chair and footstool.
2020: Flat screen TV in the back bedroom. Cleaning protocol per CDC regulations re COVID.
2021: Cabinets in the living room and front bedroom, a floor lamp and end table in the middle bedroom. An ion air purifier to help with forest fire smoke. Electric grill and rotisserie.
2022: Sound system with a 5 CD changer and Bluetooth. New LR desk, more USB ports, and a fan. A little green flag man to slow traffic.
2023: A more reliable Internet provider. Bulletin board. Removed dead trees. New washer/dryer. New fire extinguishers.
2024: Removed more dead trees. Expanded our Bear Fencing so that it can now be turned on while inside the cabin.

Why they chose this property

We purchased our cabin in 1979 because we loved to ski, and soon discovered that Tahoe is wonderful in every season! We are very attached to our little neighborhood and lived at Tahoe between years in San Francisco and Idaho.

We love the West Shore. We enjoy the sense of community and knowing our Tahoma neighbors. We can walk to cross-country tracks in Sugar Pine Point State Park as well as to Pine Lodge and the beach there. We like the stream profile at Taylor Creek and the beaches at D.L. Bliss State Park, Kiva Beach, Baldwin Beach and Pope Beach. The Vikingsholm at the end of Emerald Bay and Valhalla are also favorites.

Winter gives us a wonderland of snow with lots of area for play. In the spring, our yard near Oak Street blooms with many wild flowers. In summer, our own community park is a great spot to have a picnic while the kids enjoy the playground equipment, or listen to one of our local bands play a concert at the amplitheater. It is wonderful to be within walking distance of the lake, a grocery store, a restaurant, the post office, gelato and espresso, and a state park.

What makes this property unique

Our cabin sits on a parcel of 4 lots covering a bit over ½ acre, surrounded by open forest space. We have a great collection of literature about Tahoe: the birds, the trees, the flowers, where to find the wildflower hikes, the trails, the dog beaches and parks. Also, books about Tahoe's colorful history, and tall tales about the lake and its former inhabitants.

You'll notice the influence of my Norwegian, Swedish and Swiss heritage. Our wood-burning stove provides warmth and ambiance. The open living, dining, kitchen area makes hosting easy. Our bedrooms accommodate a variety of family arrangements. Our decks extend our living space into the outdoors.

I love the wonderful smell of the forest, the lovely summer temperatures, our yard with Insence Cedars, Jeffrey, Sugar, and Lodge Pole Pines, White and Red Firs and Alders. The easy walk to Sugar Pine Point State Park, the quiet West Shore, the short hike to the top of Eagle Rock for a bird's eye view of the lake, picking up the Sunday paper at the Tahoma Market, breakfast on the front deck while watching the world go by, walking our dog in the neighborhood and talking to the neighbors, watching old movies, inviting friends to visit while we're in town, the summer festivals, winter's Snowfest, driving around Emerald Bay, poking around the Vikingsholm and Valhalla, the stream profile at Taylor Creek and nature walks at DL Bliss State Park, hiking up to the tarns above Emerald Bay, horseback riding in Alpine Meadows or Camp Richardson, the hot springs in Nevada, the quiet fall season when the salmon are running, exploring near-by towns of Reno, Virginia City, Pyramid Lake, Tahoe City and Truckee, the great snow skiing where we have fabulous lake views and fun Apres Ski evenings. Above all, the beauty and peacefulness of the lake and the mountains!
