Luxurious stay in (literally!) Green Mountain National Forest
My husband and I look for two things when choosing a VRBO: quiet and comfortable beds. Ten stars on both of these accounts, plus so much more we didn't know. This home is literally in the Green Mountain National Forest with trails accessed from the backyard! There was profound silence in the home - no outside traffic, no noisy appliances, just pure quiet. This was the most well-appointed home we've ever stayed in. There was as much fall color in the home as there was outside! Our favorite nearby attractions: Southern Vermont Art Center, Mad Tom Apple Orchard, the Dorset Quarry Mine and Williams General Store in Dorset. Also not to be missed are the two coffee table books in the home, photo essay books on VT Hill Farms in VT and VT history. Perfect. There are two things we wish we would have known beforehand. 1. No shampoo/bath soap are provided, so be sure to bring your own, and 2. The check-out expectation is that you launder your sheets and towels. This could be a problem if you plan to leave early in the morning. Last, the home is so well-appointed it has somewhat of a museum feel (numerous taxidermied animals, slip-covered furniture, new seasonal towels) we felt somewhat anxious during the stay that we would spill, drop, or somehow scar the place. We chose not to make a fire in the woodstove (even though there are detailed instructions on how to do so) because we would have felt awful if something went wrong and the place filled with smoke.
