About this property

LAKEFRONT CABIN, PRIVATE BEACH, DOCK AND HOT TUB

If you are looking to step back in time and have all the luxuries and amenities afforded by a classic McCall lakefront cabin, then look no further than Inertia Inn. Located in the very desirable area of Sylvan Beach, the cabin was originally one of the many cabins used during the filming of Northwest Passage that was shot in McCall in the late 1930's and starred Spencer Tracy. The present owner's family purchased the cabin in 1947 after the previous owner's wife had a late night sighting of our local “sea monster,” Sharlie! The cabin has remained in the same family ever since, although it has been winterized and modernized several times over the years! Sitting on the west shore of Payette Lake and looking back on the city of McCall, the Inertia Inn sleeps ten in the main house and, during the spring, summer, and fall months sleeps two additional people in the private “Wigwam” for a total of 12 people in beds. The beautiful views and fantastic location will not be the only thing to delight your senses. You will spend plenty of time taking in the incredibly unique decor on the walls and throughout the home. As soon as you step through the antique stained glass door you will be awestruck by the views of Payette Lake that are visible throughout the home. Once outside on the lakeside decks, the views only get better as you have an unimpeded panorama of McCall, Ponderosa Park, and Jughandle Mountain.

The main living area is connected to the galley kitchen and features a sitting room with two chairs and a smart tv with DISH Network service. There is also a sunroom with incredible views of the lake through floor to ceiling windows. Both of these rooms are open to the fully stocked kitchen where you can socialize with family in the sitting areas or just enjoy watching beautiful Payette Lake while you prepare delicious meals for your entire group. Following off the sunroom is another living room with ample seating to enjoy watching a movie, reading a good book, or playing a game. This room also enjoys beautiful views of Payette Lake.

When it is time to enjoy dinner, gather in the dining room at the unique round dining table with seating for 6-8 people. On warm nights, there are two large granite dining tables with seating for everyone on the outside deck overlooking the large beach and Payette Lake. The deck, which extends the entire length of the home, features multiple seating areas to enjoy watching family play on the private dock and beach, look for shooting stars at night, or on occasion, enjoy a wonderful mountain summer storm roll in across the lake under the porch overhang. Launch your boat in town and take it across the lake to the Inertia Inn and dock it on your own private dock. There is room to park a boat trailer in the driveway, but it can be tight with multiple vehicles. If you are not boating, there is plenty of room for the entire group to spread out and enjoy some quality lake time on the expansive beach. Tucked away, but still commanding amazing views of Payette Lake or the stars at night, is a 6-8 person hot tub to enjoy. Long days at the beach and on the boat produce plenty of laundry, but there is no need to worry. A full sized large capacity washer/dryer in the laundry room off the kitchen will meet your needs during your stay!

When it is time to turn in for the night, there are plenty of options to choose from! The master bedroom is on its own private section of the main level and features a plush queen sized bed. The light colors and white trim of the walls from the original (but now insulated!) cabin give the
master a “beachy” vibe which matches nicely with the nautically themed attached master bath. The separate toilet and shower room and single vanity with plenty of counter space finish off this private master suite. Upstairs you will find the second bedroom and the bunk room. Some of the most stunning views in the entire home are seen through a modestly-sized picture window in the second bedroom. Decorated in floral wallpaper and a plush green carpet, this bedroom might make you think you have stepped back in to the late 70's, but you might just decide that stepping back in time is not so bad as you lay in the king sized bed and watch the beautiful mountain sunrise across Payette Lake! If you prefer, you might even choose to spend some quiet time lounging in the love seat and taking in the views! The bunk room is perfect for kids, and parents will love its remote location upstairs and down the hall! There are six single beds in total; two sets of bunk beds and two separate twin beds. With a large dresser and closet, this room has plenty of storage for clothes and luggage. The second bedroom and the bunk room share a large galley bathroom with a huge soaking tub, separate water closet, shower and single-sink vanity with plenty of counter and drawer space. Don't forget the “Wigwam!” It is a private small log guest room with a comfy full sized bed situated away from the main house. Tongue and groove paneling adorn the interior of this rustic cabin from floor to ceiling and bring back that “beachy” feel from the master. A water closet, shower and sink complete the room. Waking up to the warm sun greeting you through the east facing windows often makes this private oasis the most desirable accommodation at Inertia Inn!

Inertia Inn is a true piece of McCall history that will leave you pondering times past. Homes in Sylvan Beach are rarely available to the public for rent! With amenities like a private beach, private boat dock and a hot tub, this home will book up quickly. Don't miss out on booking your lakefront stay at the Inertia Inn.

Lake access and private dock are ideal. The place has an interesting history and a lot of charm. 3 or 4 lights were out and the bulbs in the pantry didn't work or were the wrong size. The hand rails going to the lake and upstairs were loose and wobbly.

Good

The stay was very nice overall. However, the grease trap on the grill had not been cleaned for quite some time and caught fire when we were cooking baked potatoes in tinfoil. Luckily, no one was burned but it would be good to check the grease trap more often. I will text some photos to Matt.

90th birthday fell short of expectation

I would first like to say that I don’t want to complain about the property itself. It is as it shows in the photos—unique, old, not particularly well maintained (but could be spectacular!) and filled with lots of whimsical decor. Really filled. Great location, and best part of it is the use of a beautiful beach. It touts a private dock for our fishing and boating use, which was the primary reason we chose to rent this property. We arrived to find the dock was pulled up on the beach rather than out on the lake. We needed a dock for our boat. No one ever informed us that the dock would not be available. The wigwam house in the back is included in the “four bedroom three bathroom” description. The main house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. We needed the extra bed and asked 3 times how to gain access. The property manager told us there would be an extra charge for the wigwam (he responded a day after we needed it). There is no mention of an extra charge anywhere in the description of the property and its use/charges. We had an unpleasant exchange with the property manager on the evening of my Dad’s 90th birthday which ended the evening abruptly. This was right after my Dad made a toast saying it was his “best birthday ever.” This was a one night gathering of 18 family members. All related. We got 2 houses to accommodate our group. During the day we thought we could all hang out together outside and use boat, beach, etc. This was not allowed. Please note that the listing says very specifically that no one is allowed on the property other than the people that are staying there. The house is monitored by outdoor video cameras. This was not disclosed in the listing description either. The day before we were set to leave, my Step Mom heard someone walking outside. She went to the door and saw people trying to let themselves in. It was neighbors that said they were checking to see if the building was locked up and secure. We still had another day of rental. Though we did fine with the manager for the rest of the trip, it could have been a smoother and much less stressful trip had their been clear communication from the beginning. Prior to even getting to McCall I had asked a few questions and never got a response from anyone other than an automatic robot response. This house could be a 5 star rating with greater attention to detail.

Historic McCall House/Cabin in a perfect, beach-front location

Enjoy a slice of McCall history in this lovely beach-front home filled with eclectic decorations, comfortable accommodations, and an incredible view and lake access. The location cannot be beat and the house is fun, whimsical, and comfortable. Our family of nine (ages 10 to 70) fit perfectly in this wonderful home and loved paddleboarding, hiking, and mountain biking right from the house as well as jumping in the lake, warming up in the jacuzzi, making sandcastles, and a campfire with s'mores on the beach, cooking in the kitchen and coming together for meals and games in the interesting, spacious dining room. A few tips/caveats: - If you prefer sparse decorations and/or uncluttered spaces, this house might not be your cup of tea. Our family found it fun, warm, and comfortable. - The deck and dock are incredible and there are many different areas both inside and outside to accommodate a larger group and multiple conversations taking place at once - The jacuzzi jets emit chlorine? gas when you run them so we'd recommend not using the jets until this is addressed. It makes everyone in the jacuzzi cough. - Read the fine print on the Wigwam availability. It is only unlocked when enough people are renting the house at once. My mother-in-law stayed inside and loved it. - Life preservers were not included with the house so bring your own or rent from the marina. Everything you need besides beach towels and food is provided with the house. - Definitely take the .5 mile hike up to the reservoir. We saw a moose and it was fantastic. We also recommend the short walk to Charlie's Garden. - Matt, the property manager, was great to deal with and very responsive

McCall lake house

The property was beautiful!! The inside of the house was really cool with all the antique stuff. The fire pit and the dock was the best part for us. We just fished the whole time. The inside could be a little cleaner with how much they charge for a cleaning deposit. I made sure I cleaned it way better when I left. Overall I would do it again.

Lots of stuff in house (clutter). Wouldn’t stay at house again.

Great location and view! Hot tub wasn’t very clean, when arriving the house was very cold set at 58. I would be scared to bring my family here as there is so much stuff scattered through house I’d be afraid they would break stuff. Our entire group said we won’t be back there to that house. One night turned up heat and owner turned it back down on his/her behalf remotely...

Sledding

If you are headed to McCall to go sledding I would recommend this place to stay. It is between the lower and second parking lot. There is room for two trailers for parking. It snowed over a foot the first night we was there the people had the new snow removed before we left the cabin at 8:30. Great place to stay

Fair

The inertia inn is certainly in a great location and must have been lovely in its day. However, we felt it certainly was in need of updating. All the furniture appeared lovely but needed a good cleaning and new springs and support. The mattresses on beds were sagging and very uncomfortable. Wallpaper certainly needed attention. The bedspread in the wigwam was quite dirty. All the pictures were lovely on the website and again, it just needs a good thorough clean and update. And we noticed a peculiar odor; perhaps it was just from age.

This property is as unique as advertised. Clean and comfortable, you will find many interesting artifacts and collector items from the past. We stayed four (4) days and seemed to find a new treasure every day. The beach and dock area are fantastic and we highly recommend this property for an excellent McCall vacation.

Inertia Inn

This place is one of a kind. Located on one of the best parts of the lake - this cabin has a great beach, large deck, and view to truly relax and take in the beauty of Payette Lake. I will definitely rent this again and would highly recommend it.

Not your typical rental!

This is not your typical vacation rental, and that’s a good thing. Upon booking I had reservations about weather or not I made the right decision for our group, especially with several small children in tow. The house is full of “treasures” and we did our best to respect that and make sure our children were aware that they were not to touch some of the rather amazing and unusual Knick knacks (ie. stuffed peacocks, bob cats, and ventriloquist dummies). Once that was made clear, we all, adults and children alike, had a wonderful time exploring. The home, while some may find it dated with the wallpaper and floral fabric in abundance was just darling and so much better than typical boring cheap rental house furniture. We really felt like we were being welcomed in someone’s special home where lots of memories had been made. The kitchen while not huge, was equipped with all new appliances and was well stocked with absolutely everything we needed. I often take my own knives and spices when we rent because you never know what will be available, but there was no need for that here. However, we didn’t rent the house for the charming decor or well appointed kitchen, we rented it for the outdoor space and it certainly didn’t disappoint! Large Adirondack chairs on the beach surround a fire pit perfect for nightly S’mores roasting and hanging out. The sand toys, diggers, and dump trucks made my two year olds week and he basically played in the sand all day everyday. We brought paddle boards from home and made our way along the surrounding bay many times, enjoying the other quaint cottages. We rented a boat for the day and having our own boat dock was a plus. So great to just pull up to the dock at the house and load and unload passengers as needed throughout the day. We also took the short stroll over to the secret garden and loved the many water features, small bridges, beautiful flowers, of this well cared for magical spot! Do not miss this if you stay here! So overall, not much other than a positive review. The only problem we encountered was the wigwam (small outside cabin) didn’t have any hot water even after the manager suggested we try checking the breaker box. All and all, If you love history, charm, and private beach front property, this is the place for you!
