About this property

Charming Vermont Home on 7 Acres w/ Hot Tub, Fireplace and Pond!

Travel back in time to the picturesque, quaint villages and outdoor beauty of the Green Mountains in this sprawling Vermont vacation home! You will enjoy all the comforts of home and more as you awaken every morning from a deep and restful country sleep, gaze through the French doors at the beautiful misty mountains, and brew a cup of steaming French Roast coffee to enjoy on the balcony in your bathrobe.

Maybe you don't even need to leave the house today after all. You can wander between our 3 living rooms, Great Room and Sun Room, trying to decide which one has the coziest spot for curling up with your coffee. Or maybe you'd rather decide which of our 3 decks and patios has the sunniest spot. Or you could wander up the back yard to the pond, relax in an Adirondack chair and watch the fish jump. But if all this fresh air has you feeling like a kid again, head for the tree swing in our big, gorgeous maple, or take a shady nap in our hammock. You can hardly tear yourself away, but there are so many wonderful things to explore in Dorset and Manchester!

Dorset is a most charming, quaint location in every season. In the early spring you can enjoy visiting a real maple syrup 'sugar shack' to see how Vermont maple syrup is made, and by late April and May, our gardens are bursting with color. In summertime, you must pack a picnic lunch and head to the local favorite swimming spot, the Dorset marble quarry, and join the locals in a time-honored tradition of jumping off the ledges. The endless nearby hiking trails beckon to be explored. In the fall, our stately maple trees in the front yard, and the surrounding mountain sides are breath-takingly ablaze with color, and in winter you must skate on our pond, sled down our hill and take a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride nearby! Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and snow mobiling are just 15 minutes away, and there's a great ice skating rink just 7 minutes away. Any time of year, exploring the 100-year old covered bridges and meandering down the back roads through the adorable, quaint towns is a cherished favorite pastime. All of these activities and more await you at Owlswood!

Charming shops, bakery cafes and general stores are 3 minutes away on Dorset Green, and 7 minutes away in Manchester Center, not to mention the highly-acclaimed Southern Vermont Art Center, the historic Hildene House (former home of Robert Todd Lincoln) and the famous Vermont Country store. There are many local activities all year round, including the Manchester Summer Horse Festival, the water slide park at Bromley Ski Resort, art fairs, Sunday farmers' markets, outlet shopping, golf, fly-fishing, canoeing, horse-back riding, and don't forget incredible hiking, just minutes away.

When you return home from exploring, enjoy an outdoor game of badminton or volleyball in our dedicated court, all set up and ready to play! We also provide a nice wooden corn hole set, bocce ball and croquet sets, as well as a football, soccer ball, baseball mitts & balls, and frisbees to use in our huge front and back yards. You can even swim in our pond, or row the 3-person raft around! But there's nothing like just relaxing at the picnic table while you throw in a line for some catch-and-release fishing, or taking a lazy summer nap in the our incredibly comfortable hammock under the shady maple tree on a summer's afternoon...heavenly. We even have several fun trails on our property, such as the Pond Loop Trail, and the Bird House Trail. Great for walking your dog right at the house!

Once it's time to head indoors, start the evening by lighting a wood fire in the huge stone fireplace in the Great Room and playing some board games or starting a puzzle (we have lots!). Our brand-new, incredibly comfortable sectional sofa with a chaise lounge is the perfect spot to curl up with a good book, or snuggle up to watch a little TV or movie you've been meaning to see on our new QLED 55" high-def, flat screen Smart TV, with Blu-Ray player. We also have another 42" SmartTV all set up in the lower living room area with a Wii video gaming system, and 25+ games from which to choose, including Guitar Hero.

We have high-speed wireless internet, and you'll especially love our Sonos music system, on which you can play just about any song ever recorded at the touch of a button! We even have blue tooth speakers outdoors by the hot tub, too. There is a house phone with unlimited long-distance calling, and a USB printer for your use, as well.

For dinner your first night, why not bake a delicious home-made Chicken Pot Pie from historic Dorset Union General store on Dorset Green? But be sure to venture out for a great meal at one of the many award-winning restaurants close by. Dorset and Manchester are renowned for their incredible chef-owned restaurants, and farm-to-table cuisine. You could spend years trying all the amazing restaurants within a 10-minutes radius of Owlswood! It's also fun to create your own farm-to-table experience, using fresh produce from local Dutton Farms (the kids will adore seeing their cute farm animals, too). So bring your favorite recipes from home and cook up a feast in our very well-appointed kitchen with a nice breakfast bar, then gather everyone in the formal dining room for a cozy fireside meal. After dinner it's time to relax and watch the sunset over the mountains in our very private 7 person jetted hot tub, or roast marshmallows around the outdoor bonfire pit while gazing at the incredible Milky Way. We even provide the firewood!

Our little hamlet of Dorset, Vermont is located in the Southwest corner of the state, in the heart of the Green Mountains, only 4 hours drive from New York City and 3 hours from Boston. If you fly in, Albany, New York is the closest major airport, and Dorset is 1:15 minutes northeast by car. Burlington, Vermont is 2 hours north of us, and Manchester, New Hampshire is about 2:30 minutes east of us. We know you'll fall in love with Dorset just as we did. We can't wait to have you as our guests!

The Last Family Ski Weekend of the 24/25 Season

Our weekend at the Owlswood was fantastic. The house was spotless, well stocked and huge. There was enough room for our large family to spread out, although we spent most of our time in front of the fireplace. Our host, Suzanne, couldn't be more accomodating. She was great from the first contact right through checkin/out. Her directions and helpful suggestions for what to do besides skiing were very much appreciated. The property was expansive and well maintained. We enjoyed walking around by the pond and streams. Our grandchildren loved making pinecone rafts and watching them sail downstream. Don't even have to comment on the tree swing or hot tub, they were fun for the kids and so relaxing for the big kids. It would be great to be back during the summer months. Thanks for sharing your home with us.

Our winter home away from home never fails to live up to its wonderful ambiance. And Suzanne is a most gracious hostess. Owls Head has every convenience of your own home plus the outdoor beauty and activities of the Vermont terrain. The food and shops are lovely. The ambience warm and cozy. Winter Wonderland

Our group of 10, primarily in our late 50s, just returned from an amazing long weekend at Owlshead. The online photos are spot on. The house is expansive with a bedroom wing and an open great room, dining area and a well-equipped kitchen, go beyond this area and you have lots more living space including a tiered living room, dining room, sunroom with wet bar. The acreage around the property is stunning with a large fire pit, pond, sledding hills, outdoor hot tub with a lovely view.We did not have enough time to maximize it all. We skied Magic Mtn and Bromley, explored some of Manchester and Dorset, went sledding and thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub after these activities. We were fortunate to be there for 10 inches of snow which added to the beauty of Owlshead.Suzanne, the owner, could not have been nicer, communicative and provided better suggestions - thank you so much!

Perfect winter gathering home

Our family stayed for a winter getaway. We had everything we needed to be comfortable, to cook and share meals, to play outside, relax by the fire after enjoying the jacuzzi. The home is just beautiful, and located centrally so we could come and go to enjoy skiing, ice-skating, shopping and local restaurants. Suzanne was an amazing host, she was so helpful. Our family is convinced she may be related to Martha Stewart. Thank you for giving our family everything we needed for our family get-away. We definitely want to come back, and maybe enjoy a different season at the Owlswood Home in Dorset.

White Thanksgiving with family

Our week at Owlswood was wonderful. The house was perfect with plenty of room for 6 adults and 3 young kids to spread out play, cook and rest. The property is a huge bonus with a sweet little pond, trails through the woods, sloping open spaces perfect for sledding after a Thanksgi snowstorm. There were plenty of kitchen supplies and cooking equipment for a family of cooking enthusiasts. The hot tub was fun for the adults at the end of the day. Suzanne was very helpful with suggestions for things to do in and around Dorset and Manchester. Highly recommend booking Owlswood for a special stay in a beautiful area of Vermont.

Great Property!

A great area for any family, we had 3 family’s 6 adults and 5 kids and this house was perfect. We used the fire pit, hot tub, fishing in the pond. We also went to Emerald state Park Beach, this was a huge hit with the kids, the Dorset Union General Store pie was excellent. We also got pizza from Christos in Manchester! Would highly recommend this house to everyone! The area was perfect.

Dorset house

This is the best stocked house we've ever been in. Everything from cookware, condiments, and spices to baby gates and portacribs. The owner was available for questions and comments as well as the caretaker within minutes of the property if we needed them. There is plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the inside and the outside of the property. My 2 year-old niece learned how to fish in the catch and release pond as a bonus! Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful property.

Exceptional Experience

We recently stayed at this stunning property in Vermont, and I can't say enough good things about it. The house is absolutely beautiful—immaculately clean, thoughtfully decorated, and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The attention to detail is truly impressive, making it feel like a home away from home. The location is unbeatable, offering not just convenience but also a breathtaking view that we could enjoy from multiple spots around the house. Whether it was enjoying a peaceful morning coffee or unwinding in the evening, the scenery added to the overall relaxing atmosphere. This was our fourth time visiting, and each time we are more and more impressed. The consistency in maintaining such high standards is rare, and it's what keeps us coming back. The hosts are warm and welcoming, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. I almost don’t want to leave this review because we can hardly find a window to book it ourselves!

Beautiful, Restful Family Vacation in Dorset!

We were very happy with our stay at Suzanne's home in Dorset, Vermont for a week-long family summer vacation. Suzanne was an incredibly responsive and helpful host, who checked in daily, worked to resolve any issues that came up, and provided excellent recommendations for food, activities, and local spots to check out during our stay in Dorset. The house was incredibly spacious and welcoming as there was plenty of room for our group of 10, and everyone found the house to be immaculately clean and the beds extremely comfortable. We were happy to find the kitchen well stocked with plenty of appliances to cook with throughout the week and to make our morning coffee. During the week the central location of the house gave us access to wonderful hikes, the Dorset Farmer's Market on Sundays, the quaint shops and restaurants in downtown Manchester, and as many maple creamees as we could eat. While on the property we enjoyed walks up to the pond, access to the hot tub watching the sunset over the mountains, and plenty of games and activities for the rainy days. It is clear that Suzanne has put a lot of time, effort, and attention into making her house feel like a home for her guests, and we would happily recommend her place to anyone looking to have a relaxing, beautiful stay in Dorset. Thanks again for the great week!

Perfect

We had 3 generations ranging in age from 4 months to 71! The house and property were perfect! It was huge with a great gathering place for all of us in the great room/dining area/kitchen. In addition, there were several other areas for anyone to have quiet or private time. The hot tub was amazing, the pond was so much fun for our grandkids, and the fire pit was dynamite! The bedrooms were spacious and comfy and the house was immaculately clean! The host was incredible, responding quickly, answering all questions, providing tons of info about the surrounding areas and activities, restaurants, etc., and she was just as nice and accommodating as you’d ever want! Great family accommodation

We had six adults and three children staying at the house, and it was more than big enough. Lots of different areas to hang out. The kids especially loved the Nintendo wii and the hot tub. It is the first house we’ve stayed in that had plenty of dishes, glasses and cookware. The house was clean and nicely furnished. Everything worked! There were detailed instruction sheets for everything, unfortunately the way they were stacked and placed in the corner, we didn’t see them until we were leaving. Would suggest leaving in middle of counter as they would have been very helpful. Beautiful home, great location. Enjoyed getting to know Dorset and already love Manchester. Highly recommend and hope to rent again. Thank you.

Winter wonderland ❄️

Located in the charming town of Dorset, Vermont, this home exceeded expectations in every way. Its proximity to Dorset adds a touch of quintessential New England charm, with its historic architecture and welcoming community. The house itself, however, steals the show, surpassing expectations with its tasteful decor, well-appointed amenities, and thoughtful touches. We made several intricate meals and every appliance and kitchen amenity was available for use. The seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, coupled with the stream and hot tub, creates an atmosphere that truly immerses you in the beauty of Vermont. It’s not just a place to stay; it’s a destination that elevates the Vermont experience. Suzanne, the host, was communicative and informative about all things Vermont. Overall it was an amazing weekend away with friends and we all enjoyed our time on the slopes and at the home.

Holiday stay at Owlswood

Beautiful house and grounds, great place, well equipped, had everything we needed for our family of 11. We had so much fun at this spacious, amazingly decorated house. We used jacuzzi after day of skiing and we enjoyed fire places in main living rooms. The location is also very convenient, close to Manchester, very cute little town with quality shops and restaurants and close proximity to Stratton and Broomley for skiing. Fast internet, easy communication with Suzanne, the owner made our stay even more enjoyable. And Sonos set up was also a wonderful addition. We truly recommend this beautiful and amazing house.

Hi, I'm Suzanne and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I moved there in 2000 when I was hired as an airline pilot. Cincinnati is a fantastic city, but I love coming back to the beautiful peace and quiet of the Green Mountains in Dorset, Vermont any chance I get. I know you will too!

Why they chose this property

My mother purchased our family vacation home in Dorset, Vermont in 1999. It was always her dream to own a home in Dorset ever since at age 18 she joined the Dorset Playhouse Players and did summer stock theater in 1959 with Dom DeLuise, his wife Carol Arthur and many others. Dorset made its way into all their hearts, and they also own homes in Dorset. After long days rehearsing plays and building sets they would cool off by jumping into the marble quarry down the road. It's still our favorite family tradition every summer! Dorset will find its way into your heart too and become a beloved destination you will cherish always.

What makes this property unique

What I love about our home is how spacious and sprawling it is. No matter how large your group is, you can always find a quiet place to call your own. From the numerous comfy couches and living areas inside, to the many decks and patios outside, the picnic table and kids' barn shed hangout by our pond, or the tree swing in the big maple, or amazing shady hammock, there are so many places to relax and enjoy! But what I love most is throwing open the French doors at night and sleeping with the cool fresh mountain air breezing in, then waking up to the sound of the birds. It is so peaceful and quiet that I forget the rest of the world exists.
