----------
Welcome to "The Yellow Cottage", a true Muskoka getaway! Both Kevin and Jackie have been coming up to Muskoka our entire lives and we feel very grateful to call it our home. The Yellow Cottage is along a point of land that has been in our family since the early 1940’s and after 5 generations, we still choose to spend as much time as possible at the cottage. The Yellow Cottage was built in 2004 and over the last four years Kevin has fully renovated each and every room. It has been a lot of work but a hugely rewarding experience for our family. We have spent so much time trying to provide a happy, peaceful feeling and we are excited to share this with you. We love our cottage and we hope you do to!

The Yellow Cottage is an amazing 4 season, 3660 sq. ft., modern rustic cottage on Acton Island (road accessible via Acton Island bridge) in the heart of Muskoka. It is situated on a long quiet bay perfect for any water sport, and only a 10 min boat ride to Bala, and 20 min boat ride to Port Carling. It's south-west exposure means you'll get sun all day long capped off by beautiful sunsets that beam in through the screened in Muskoka and Living rooms. Touches like the hand crafted wood floors, selection of handmade furniture (both created by Kevin), clean simple and modern rustic trim, and the easy flow of the layout will help make any family getaway a relaxing and fulfilling experience.

Starting down at the lake, there is an expansive on-land deck with two built in cargo-net style hammock beds right at the waters edge, with a long finger dock with amble boat parking. There is an 8'x 8' floating swim raft off shore, and both an easy shallow entry with stairs, or deep water off the end of the dock for jumping off of. The deck offers a sweeping view of the bay and out to the main channel past Muskadasa Island, and enjoys all day sun right to sunset. The typical breeze keeps the bugs away much of the season, and provides a great respite from the heat on warmer summer days. Up from the dock area is a terraced fire pit with fire ring and some firewood provided. Sit around and roast marshmallows, or just enjoy the fire light on the trees, and when you're done, we've made it easy by providing a tap and hose right at the pit for dousing the fire.

The open concept main floor which includes the kitchen, dining room, living room, and screened in Muskoka Room provides a large space for spending time together and brings the outdoors inside being surrounded by windows on all sides. Open the two sets of full wall french doors to let the breeze gently flow through on warmer days, or bask in the warm light of mid-afternoon winter days. The main floor also has a separate "parlour" complete with writing desk, games table and seating also surrounded by large windows. The 100 year old french doors allow you to close it off to the house allowing you to sneak away for some quiet time.

The upper floor has a common 3 piece bathroom with a sliding glass door stall shower, and three bedrooms. The "Upstairs Master" includes a 4 piece en-suite with hanging barn door made of 80 year old Hemlock which also makes up the large feature wall behind the hand made pine King sized platform bed. The room provides a tree-house like experience because of the two large 6'x6' windows that make up the majority of the front wall. Pull out a book and curl up with a blanket on the settee by the windows. The second bedroom is a good sized room with a view of the lake and a queen sized iron bed. The third bedroom, also good size, provides two Twin XL sized beds, extra long for adults, but still great for the kids.

The lower floor includes the Theatre / Rec Room, Laundry facilities, a large 3 piece bathroom with glass shower stall, and two more bedrooms including the "Downstairs Master". The rec room is complete with 75" 4k TV, live edge counter, hand crafted coffee table, and large couches, The 4th bedroom in the cottage has a large handmade timber frame King sized bed and matching side tables, with a great ground level view right out to the lake. The Downstairs Master has its own large platform style King sized bed, double his and hers closets, and a private patio out the sliding glass doors which also provide a stunning view of the lake.

Muskoka Paradise

We had an incredible stay at this beautiful Cottage! Great interiors, location, beautiful forested area, fire pit, sauna, dock, activities and equipment for the water. We loved the Lily pad, nets for lounging and the lake was incredible! This place is a gem! Kevin couldn’t have been a better host. He’d respond within seconds or minutes and gave 5-star service - a welcome basket, cottage manual/ info, in person cottage tour, plus detailed area info. Better than any concierge. Can’t wait to come back! Thank you Kevin for this wonderful experience!

Great home away from home

We spent 4 days at Kevin's cottage and it was awesome! After a busy season at work it was so nice to get away and just relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Kevin greeted us at the cottage when we arrived and was super welcoming and was available if we needed anything throughout our stay. The cottage had everything we needed and more, we would definitely recommend Kevin's cottage to others wanting to take a week off!

Acton Island Getaway - Five Stars!

If you are looking to be placed well within the Muskoka region for plenty of activities nearby, want a lakeside parcel that has a beautiful calm bay position, large dock for sunning, diving into Lake Muskoka, relaxing on the Adirondack chairs, fire pit, horseshoes, frisbee golf, canoe or kayak, comfortable cottage that sleeps 10 (we had eight, 3 king bedrooms & 1 queen worked nicely), views of the forest and lake from each, Muskoka room for group breakfasts, well equipped kitchen, responsive host, ceiling audio to play your favourites around the main floor....we had 3 vehicles, room for more to park in driveway if needed, cottage at the end of the road, traffic noise non existent, the only thing you'll hear is distant freight trains 3-4 times per day. Sound idyllic???? It is, call Kevin & Jackie, you won't regret it.

Amazing property

Gorgeous cottage, on a 5 star muskoka property. It's one of a kind, really. South west view in a bay that gets far less chop then other properties out there. Great spot, and people ~ Thanks for hosting us Kevin and Jackie! :)

AH-Mazing Slice of Heaven

We escaped the pandemic of 2020 and found paradise at The Yellow Cottage. We really could not be happier with our vacation. The owners are the nicest family, great communicators and have seriously thought of everything to make it an awesome stay. Everything is new and updated without losing that cottage-y feel. There is a great dock where you can watch beautiful sunsets either sitting in the Muskoka chairs or lounging in the over-the-water-dock-hammocks (I don't know what you call them, but they're really cool). Bala and Port Carling are each a short drive and the bigger towns of Bracebridge and Gravenhurst aren't too far either. The cottage is on a beautiful bay that is great for waterskiing or watching the neighbours ski by. An awesome fire pit (with a hose 2 feet away, safety first!) for making s'mores, kayaks, a canoe, disc golf course around the cottage (I mean, seriously!) you'll never run out of things to do. It was the perfect spot for us and our 3 kids and you could comfortably fit another family. Stay here, you'll be so happy you did!

This space was a delight and so easy to use. The rooms are big and warm with lots of space for people to sleep. The kitchen, dinning , living room is open space and so much fun to entertain. It was easy to use and so beautiful. The property had great activities to use including the disc golf course. We had a fantastic time there and will return for sure. A gem of a location!

Love Love Love “The Yellow Cottage”!!!

Wow, where do I begin! We spent the weekend at the yellow cottage which is truly a place for rest, peace and tranquility. The cottage is exactly as described, clean and well taken care of. Not to mention, beautifully decorated. We all felt instantly at home. The kitchen was well appointed with everything we could imagine needing during our stay. The beds were all very comfortable and fitted with nice all-cotton sheets and cozy duvets. The master bedroom offers a spectacular view!! The property itself is large, private and quiet and offers gorgeous lake views. We enjoyed sitting on the dock and lying in the beautiful custom made hammocks while we soaked up the afternoon sun and watched the leaves fall from the trees. We all loved the giant harvest table and the comfortable dining chairs. We used the fireplace every night and enjoyed the fire immensely. Kevin, the owner is such a generous host-and he really could not of been more gracious or nicer. What more can we say, our weekend at the yellow cottage was PERFECT!! We will definitely be going back!!!

Lovely cottage getaway!

We had some family visiting from Europe and wanted to treat them to a fall weekend in Muskoka. We are so glad we picked the Yellow Cottage. It was beautiful, clean, and the perfect mix of nature/rustic and comfort. The photos don't do it justice - especially the views from the bedrooms and the dock! Kevin made the check in easy and was very responsive during our stay. Thanks for such a great weekend and we hope to come back in warmer weather to take advantage of the waterfront!

Our "Golden Pond" moment at the Yellow Cottage

What a lovely, laid back, celebration of thanksgiving this has been. The open concept between the living room, dining room and kitchen meant that we could all be together no matter what we were doing. Loving to cook, the kitchen, with a magnificent island where people can sit, was of particular appeal to me. I cannot think of anything that the owners have not already thought of and provided. The view of the lake is spectacular no matter which floor you were on. The sunset cocktails on their beautiful, well appointed dock did not disappoint. Every bedroom had its own colour scheme and feeling. And while it was clear that the owners thought carefully about what adults would want, it was also clear that they thought of children as well. The easy drive in from highway 169 on to Acton Island road shows off what the " Muskoka feeling" truly is. The turning leaves are spectacular. Being at the end of a cul-de-sac, made sure that the property was peaceful. That is unless you were in a competitive disc golf competition! There is wonderful course that goes through the property, discs included. The owners were very friendly and available on a moments notice to answer any questions that we had. We can see why they love the Yellow Cottage so much. And as much as we loved the drive in, the drive out was sad, until we realized that there is always "next time!" Marcia Rempel

About the host

Host profile image
Both Kevin and Jackie have been coming up to Muskoka our entire lives and we feel very grateful to call it our home. We live in Huntsville (about an hours drive north from the cottage), but spend much of the year at the Yellow Cottage enjoying every season fully.

Why they chose this property

The Yellow Cottage is along a point of land that has been in our family since the early 1940’s and after 5 generations, we still choose to spend as much time as possible at the cottage. Both Jackie and Kevin's s families are close by either by water or land, and we spend much of the summer together often with more than 20 people at the family dinner table.

What makes this property unique

Kevin is a competitive disc golfer (played with Frisbee's) and course designer, and so it was only natural to design and install a 6 hole disc golf course for the family to use. We provide a set of cottage discs for guests to try out the sport and encourage players of all level or age to get out there!
