About this property

Better Than the Beach. Ocean and Valley view. Very private. Beauty everywhere.

'Your house is phenomenal- the layout works for privacy and the common room brings all together . We did the horseback falls, rain forest zip lines, swam in the Pacific, skinny dipped in your jungle pool, drank much too much, ate like royalty and read 12 books collectively. Absolutely wonderful. For sure a return trip in the future.' B. Given

'We had a wonderful week: your house is delightful... This was one of a few vacations that I was not looking forward to going back home.' D. Sidney

'We had an awesome time. Your place is beautiful (jungle pools are my new favorite) and we found all to be in good order. If any problems arose, M and J were quick to fix and very pleasant. We would love to have them here on a daily basis! ' M. Lotte

'We cannot possibly describe the magnificent time we had at your home. We were completely spellbound by its beauty and by your touch and details. I hope to bring my brother, the real birder of the two of us next year for his 50th birthday. I know I will never see him as he will be up at dawn and not back till dusk.(I spent hours birding myself!) We saw and confirmed 42 bird species from your deck including a pair of laughing falcons. WOW!' S. Mooney

Very private, exotic house with spectacular view over valley to the sea. Very romantic. Unbelievable sunsets. The house is a labor of love, but the spot alone makes living here delicious.

Perched on the edge of a 50-acre tree farm, the deck is a great place to watch falcons, kites, toucans and chattering flocks of parrots. Hummingbirds visit nearby flowers (arbors and pergolas make plants part of the architecture), and butterflies occasionally fly through the house.

Days are hot but there's always a breeze; nights are fresher and good for sleeping. Unlike lower elevations, the area stays lush and green all year.

Bougainvillea, palms and other tropicals share the stage w/ azaleas, tree ferns, and jasmine, which rambles up the outdoor showers. The gardens have been planted with perfume in mind. Mornings ring with birdsong and are a good time for a hike. Afternoon heat is beat by a 5 min ramble to the waterfalls- great for rainforest exploring and skinny dipping. A little dam creates a 30x40 ' jungle pool. The water is clean and cool, the site wild and beautiful. Or you can go to the beach. ..

Well-situated between Dominical, one of CR's premium surf havens, and San Isidro, a bustling little inland city. We're 30 min from each.On the way to Dominical, reserve for a 1-day horseback trip to Nuayuca Falls, a spectacular cataract and swimming hole. You stop halfway there for breakfast and halfway back for lunch at the family ranch w/ resident toucans and scarlet macaws. Dominical is a bit of a scene; you'll find several restaurants and nice surfer atmosphere. There are nature reserves w/ wildlife tours, zip-lines through the canopy, deep-sea fishing packages (some of the best in the world), and tennis at Rio Mar. 15 min south is Ballena National Pk, a gorgeous string of beaches.

San Isidro is the place to shop for food and anything else you might need. We try to time our errands for Thursdays & the huge open-air market where you find everything from organic arugula to sugarcane.

At the farm , be greeted by a lovely Tico couple who caretake; their home is a sort of gate house. Jose is very responsible and handy, Maria can be hired by the hour ($3) to babysit, housekeep or do laundry. Both are wonderful and trustworthy. About 1/4 mile past their house and into the farm is our home. The floor plan consists of 4 separate structures to provide maximum privacy:

The main house is open on 2 sides (unless you prefer to close the accordion wood doors), and has a beautiful hardwood ceiling. A kitchen with every possible accessory (we love to cook!) gives onto the dining area, where a hardwood table seats eight, ten in a pinch. The LR boasts a bamboo daybed, coffee table, and 4 teak lounge chairs, Flat panel TV with DVD player and collection of movies, Ipod dock stereo player. All water in the house is filtered and bacteria free with Ultra-Violet sanitizing system. Finally, there's a pantry, and a BR with toilet + Mexican ceramic sink/vanity. A ladder climbs to the top of this module, where a loft sleeps to 4 kids
.
Right of the main house, separated by a flower-decked wall, is the master cabina. A smaller version of the main house w/ hardwood ceiling and accordion doors framing a similarly gorgeous view, it holds a queen bed w/ lge custom mosquito net, bamboo armoire, and closet. An outdoor shower and sink framed by jasmine and orchids + a small private garden and seating area provide charm and intimacy.

A second cabina is perched above-right from the first, screened by a garden. It has its own deck and outdoor shower with great view, hardwood ceiling, screened windows. Inside is a queen bed, closet, and small bath with toilet + Mexican sink.

The 3rd cabina is left of the main house, down the deck through a pergola that will soon be surrounded by glass doors and screens. It has an italian tiled floor and hardwood ceiling set upon four white columns. Locally-made bamboo blinds shield morning breezes. A fragrant hedge provides intimacy and frames a private garden with a table + 4 chairs in teak. Dble bed with generous net, armoire and chairs are all locally-made of bamboo, and a hammoc is slung between 2 columns. It too has a sink/vanity + shower and is very romantic!

The house has a pool just off the main house

Birders quaint paradise

Property has amazing views and birding from front deck. Depending on traffic it was 30 to 40 minutes down the mountain to Dominicale and we chose not to drive at night. Kitchen has new fridge and microwave with propane burners and oven and is generally well furnished but small. The 3 sleep buildings were clean with comfortable beds. The showers are outdoors so chilli in morning and evening. Hosts were amazingly helpful and responsive and maintain amazing gardens on the property. If you are looking for a relaxing scenic nature retreat and don’t mind being a little rustic and remote this is a perfect spot.

Bird watcher’s paradise

Wonderful place with amazing wildlife everywhere, especially birds. Accommodations were perfect for our family. The VRBO description does not do it justice. Recommend a 4x4 vehicle although with patience you can reach it without. Lots of good restaurants nearby. Grocery stores are nearby but the selection of some items is limited. Driving around this area and really everywhere we went in Costa Rica is a bit nerve wracking. Not a lot of patient drivers and they like to pass even when approaching blind curves. Beautiful waterfalls right on the property that are an easy but steep hike. Highly recommend this place to others, especially if you like adventure.

Gorgeous setting and comfortable space to get away from it all

Our family stayed at Sue & Francois' "Better Than the Beach" rental for 9 days in Dec/Jan. the hosts were amazing! They were able to accommodate our Christmas Day arrival, were responsive to all questions and requests (they live right up the hill) and Francois even drove to rescue us from a neaby town when our vehicle got stuck at the bottom of a muddy hill. The home is located well off the beaten path, on a beautiful property with well-tended gardens, inspiring views, and many (noisy) tropical birds in the trees. The 3 separate sleeping structures gave our family the privacy our teenagers wanted, and the main living/dining/kitchen space was perfect shared space for meals, games, and socializing. There are some minisuper grocery stores and restaurants witihin a 15 minute drive, mostly on dirt roads. We were the first group to book this as a vacation rental after many years of it being leased to individuals, so there were a few quirks still being worked out. The listing description mentions a 7 minute walk to the beach, which is incorrect- it is closer to a 35 minute drive. This was clarified prior to our arrival so it was not a surprise, and Francois is trying to get this error resovled with VRBO. I believe there was a box checked for air conditioning as well, which the property does not have, so that needs an upate. Francois said they do have fans available. If you book this rental you will need a vehicle, preferably with AWD. We had a great stay!

An oasis in the mountains

We loved the location away from the main areas and so close to nature. It was much cooler in the hills, which we really enjoyed for sleeping. The owners were terrific and helpful with recommendations, which we used and enjoyed. It was just what we needed!

Gorgeous secluded property surrounded by wildlife & pure relaxtion

We visited February 3rd through 10th and had an absolutely amazing time! Francois was a fabulous host. Very attentive to our needs but also gave us the space to enjoy the property on our own. Everything you could need was available for use. Lounge chairs, towels, any kitchen items you may need and much more. The main house was a great gathering area for our group of five. We spent every morning listening to the howler monkeys and toucans nearby and having coffee on the lounge chairs just outside of the main house. Following that, our breakfast in the open air of the dining area. The individual cabinas were perfectly spaced out for when we wanted private time as well. The beds were comfortable and with the nets provided over the beds we never had any issues with bugs. We left our doors open to the main cabina every night and the open air sleeping quarters was a fun treat as well. I was worried about the outdoor showers at first but as soon as we left I was telling my husband how much I will miss it. Views of the mountains, fresh air and nature sounds while showering.. Can't beat it! If we come back to Costa Rica in our future travels we would not stay anywhere but here! Thank you Francois for hosting us at your beautiful property. We appreciate everything you did for us!! Pura Vida! We loved the short hike to the beautiful waterfalls on property and the pool was a refreshing spot to take a dip in after the hike back up. We had many meals at local restaurants. Mirador Los Chorros has great food and an even better view of the sunset. An absolute must is to visit the Bohemian town of Dominical. We had an amazing breakfast and dinner at Tortilla Flats along the beach. There were many vendors set up with little trinkets which was very convenient. The best restaurant we visited there was Por Que No. The food was delicious and had a beautiful view. One night we also had a local women cook us dinner during our visit and it is a MUST if you stay here. Francois sets everything up for you, all you have to do is show up hungry! If you are considering staying here do not contemplate any more. Book this place and you will not regret it!

Beautiful views and an amazing estate

The views from this property were fantastic. We had 5 people in our group (2 couples and 1 single person). It was nice that we had our own private areas and a main house to socialize in. The kitchen was great because we were able to shop in town and make dinner there, which saved some money. The owner was very friendly and gave us plenty of advice on local places to eat, shop at and visit. The beach is about 30 minutes away and it was nice to hike the property and cool off in the pool after. The locals were also very friendly and patient since none of us spoke Spanish. We ended up paying for most of our items with debit/credit cards, but almost everywhere took american money as well. I would recommend exchanging around $100 in Colones just to make it easier for you and them. Overall, we LOVED the experience and would definitely rent this property again.

A slice of heaven!

Within hours of our arrival, the stresses of a year's worth of our normal life faded away. Beautifully maintained, with a passion for preserving the environment, the owners are wonderful hosts who would bend over backwards to ensure that your stay is comfortable. Although nature's alarm clock came bit early, to experience the choruses of howler monkeys and toucans at 6AM was other-worldly. Highly recommended.

Stunning scenery!

My family and I were enthralled with the scenery from this home. Words cannot describe our initial feelings upon arrival at this utopian setting. Waking at dawn to the sounds of birds, including toucans, parrots and countless tanagers outside our rooms made us leap from beds. Frogs croaking in the evening, the romance of the cicadas in the afternoon, so many wondrous insects including grasshoppers that kept us on the lookout for more. Showering outdoors was exhilarating and the drive to the home offered incredible vistas. The open air layout was so romantic and the ability to just walk to different waterfalls almost made us want to just stay in every day. However, the sights to tour within 30-60 minutes, countless quiet almost deserted glorious beaches and horseback riding drew us out almost every day. However, we could not wait to get back to the house every afternoon to witness the spectacular sunsets and my younger twins would relish the fresh pool before dinner. Our hosts were friendly and so helpful in every way. We could not have asked for a better visit, if only it could have been longer. We will never forget this glorious and amazing home!

Super fun

Gorgeous grounds, away from everything, and so much character. We loved it here. Also, having our first breakfast groceries taken care of, umbrellas, a bag of charcoal, and a full box of dry wood for the fire pit were very nice touches. Don't miss Nauyaca waterfalls nearby! They're truly truly amazing. Before booking , you MUST know this is not going to be a luxury resort experience. There are no glass windows, only wooden panels that completely open, you pretty much live outside, in the heart of the jungle. One of the casitas has no walls at all, you're sleeping outside, with a roof over your head. It's very fun and romantic, but just to give you a sense of what it;s like, the swimming pool 8 feet away is the night home of 6 to 10 green frogs, 1 huge toad, and the cutest little baby boa (about 18 inches long). You can find them in and around the pool most nights. We found the boa chilling on the outdoor shower floor one evening. So if this doesn't sound like a fun adventure to you, you will not be happy here. A couple little things you might also know beforehand: - The beach is about 25 - 30 minutes from the house by car. - You MUST have a 4x4 to get through the 2km of rocky paths of the main road. - Wifi is slow. It works, but if you need to get work done, I found my cell phone 3G connection to be faster, so plan accordingly. - It's very difficult to get anything to dry because of humidity. One towel per guest was provided, but I wish we had a few more. - We discovered that what looked like a bookshelf between 2 doors in the main house was actually a ladder to a loft with 2 twin mattresses. Maria hadn't show that to us, or maybe I just misunderstood since I don't speak Spanish, but this was very useful since we only had one couple in our group of 6. I would definitely come back. Amazing jungle home.

Beautiful jungle oasis

We have had the time of our lives staying at Las Siete Cascades - what a unique spectaular place. Being woken by the dawn chorus and howler monkeys was incredible.... There is so much do do in close proximity to the property, we went zip lining and visited Hacienda Baru reserve, but most of all we loved relaxing with a cold beer enjoying the stunning view! The beautiful new pool was very refreshing and kept the kids entertained - don't miss out on visiting the close by waterfall pools though! Thank you Francois for your incredible welcome and making us feel at home. We hope to be back soon.

Incredibly beautiful rainforest paradise

We have just spent a week at his beautiful place - 4 adults, a 2 year old and 15 month old... We have been travelling for quite a few months and have stayed in many beautiful places all over the world but this is hands down the most amazing spot of all of the places we have stayed - it is absolute perfection. A rainforest retreat with incredible bird life, the sound of monkeys at dawn, stunning views across rainforest all the way to the sea. Minutes walks from here there are waterfalls to swim in - this place has it all. To top everything Francois has been the most kind, welcoming and informative host, we have really enjoyed getting to know you Francois, thanks so much for everything. We could not recommend this place more highly!

Stunning Rainforest Location - Paradise!

We stayed here for the second week of our holidays (4 adults and 2 toddlers) and only wish we had stayed here for the full two weeks. It was spectacular and we do not have enough good things to say about Las Siete Cascades. Francois the owner was here during our stay and his welcome, friendliness and tolerance of our two toddlers was outstanding. He imparted lots of useful information about the area but also left us to our own devices. We stayed at a hot time of the year yet the breeze and altitude meant that we did not feel the heat and the jungle pools and nearby waterfall were great places to cool off. The new pool recently built next to the main house was also fantastic and very refreshing. The cabins were excellent, the beds comfortable and our toddler loved sleeping in the open air cabin with the sounds of the jungle. The main house was extremely well equipped and was always shaded. Thank you for a wonderful stay - we cannot wait to come back!

A Refuge of Peace, Beauty and Tranquility in the Mts. Of Costa Rica

Waking to the sound of howlers, mountain views of a beautiful valley, toucan birds swirling in the trees around us will bring wonderful memories of our stay in Costa Rica. Before the adventure begins Francoise is prepared to make the transition from work to vacation an easy one. He is so thoughtful to line up shuttle transport, car rental and meet all your needs before you even arrive and our midnight arrival we were met by Francoise to make us comfortable in our new surroundings. Do not know many property owners that would go the extra mile to save us a travel day. The property is surrounded by beautiful gardens with so many species of flowers and plants that it is truly a tropical paradise. The kitchen, and surroundings of the individual living areas give you the privacy you need as well as the common areas that make a group experience great. Sunsets are amazing. A vacation to remember. The location is a gateway to all the activities of the area. A wonderful place to find what ever you are looking for fun adventure or peace and restfullness. The choice is yours.

Outstanding tropical vacation rental

We have just returned from spending a week at this rental and had a marvelous time! The rural and natural location was perfect for our family of four (2 adults and 2 teen boys). Romantic and rustic, with appeal for any nature lover. From lounging and listening to the birds sing and howler monkeys call to hiking into the deep wooded forest to swim in several amazing waterfalls were daily activities. There are many beautiful and spectacular landscapes every turn you take in this area of Costa Rica. The climate was perfect, not too hot (as it is on the coast) and not too chilly (only in the evenings did the air cool down). We were comfortable in light sweaters in the evenings. The kitchen is well stocked to do your own cooking, which made it easy for us with our kids, especially for breakfasts, but we also found many great local restaurants serving delicious local fare as well as traditional American fare for lunches and dinners out. Our favorite part of the day was having a glass of wine and watching the sunset over the mountains and pacific ocean. Gorgeous, gorgeous!!! Susie and Francois are lovely owners who helped us find everything with ease. This is a special place for anyone who would like to see the real Costa Rica and who enjoys nature with a bit of rustic countryside and a magical romantic style.

true experience of costa rica

if your idea of a vacation is air tight rooms, no sounds of nature, restaurants and a pool with hours by the beach, do not come to this wonderful oasis. the birds (numerous chestnut mandibled toucans!) monkeys and other wildlife will wake you up and sing you to sleep. the breeze and jungle pool keep you cool and the stocked kitchen allow you to create meals or store those you bring back with you. beds are comfortable and sitting on the patio and enjoying nature keep you perfectly relaxed. there are bugs; this is the rain forest, but no one had any bites so the bugs were not a bother to us. one of our group was afraid of bugs and wanted to sit on the beach or by the pool for the entire day so the rest of us wished we had left her at home! her idea of a vacation is an all-inclusive resort and this is not that place! we loved our hikes and bird watching and sleeping in the open concept environment where we felt we were part nature. the hosts are wonderful and helpful and arranged for dinner the first night. that was ideal after a long day of travel, but the other nights we found great food on the main road about 15 min from the casitas. i will definitely stay there again.

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!

Only 30 minutes away from he beach, this house is in a beautiful valley where mornings are gloriously sunny and nights are just fresh enough for a good night's sleep. Traveling with 2 other couples, it was great that the bedrooms were in different little cabinas. It really limited the noise and maximized privacy! (each of them have an outdoor shower, which we adored). We always kept the main house doors open because we loved feeling the breeze run through the house (and see the occasional swallow fly across the living room). The house, the view and the colourful gardens are breathtaking; we could tell the owners designed everything to offer an optimal contact with nature and all the beauty costa rica has to offer We loved meeting Susie and François (the owners), who are really kind and helpful. During the high season, they live not too far away and were always available to help us / answer questions. They offered to rent us their 4x4 truck, which was a life saver since it sits 6 people and works famously in the heavier dirt roads. Lots of activities are organized in the region: Horseback riding trips, hikes in the mountains (Diamante Waterfall), organic " feria " (farmers' market) in Tinamastes, etc. Also, there is a beautiful waterfall on the property (about a 10-minute walk). We loved waking up in the morning, having a cup of coffee and walking down there to have a swim in the fresh water jungle pool I'd recommend this house to anyone who loves nature and wants to really feel the essence of Costa Rica! Thank you for the amazing stay!

Paradise! Felt like a tropical version of Lord of the Rings' Rivendale; exquisite

This place is magical! Surrounded by lush wild tropical landscape, you can feel how loved and treasured this tree farm truly is. The surrounding mountains and the cloud formations that dance in the sunlight and sweep through the valley below will at times leave you speechless and zen or they just might spike a wild cord in you and make you feel like your jumping straight out of The Jungle Book haha! The hikes are plenty and the community and caretakers or the farm are quiet and friendly. A true Garden of Eden... paradise on Earth. This house will make you fantasize about throwing a party, dancing under the stars and cooking up a feast of tropical abundance! With the Ocean in sight and killer sunsets and birds galore, it is a photographers dream come true. Myriads of plants and spectacular trees will have you reconnect with nature like no where else! The privacy of each quarter and the tasteful yet simple designs of each of them are ideal for family gatherings or reconnecting with old friends. Everything you need to cook up feast after feast is there and my mouth is watering as I write this and enjoy delightful flashbacks. This place will put a spell on you! There is rafting to be done nearby, as well as canyoning, rappelling, horse back riding, surfing, diving, zip lining and fishing. All within a half hour to 40 minute drive. Pick and chose from a half a dozen splendid beaches in the Dominical and Uvita areas. Enjoy! Blisssssss!

LOVED OUR STAY!!

Las Siete Cascadas was just what we needed - 10 days of bliss and relaxation. The house is beautifully situated high up in the mountain with cool breezes, so no need for a/c's. We were mesmerized by the gorgeous views across the valley with the Pacific Ocean in the background, the beautiful grounds with lots of trees and flowers, numerous birds, and the sounds of the jungle, including the sound of the waterfall. All this made us lounge around the house without wanting to leave the property. We'll always remember the two afternoons of torrential rains and watch the fog roll in, while sitting in the living room with all doors wide open to the outside. Totally private and tranquil, we were able to open the two walls to blend the indoors with the beautiful outdoors. It felt like we were living with nature at our foot steps - Pura Vida. The owners, who live on the 50 acres property in their separate house for part of the year, were wonderful from the first time we inquired throughout our stay and their suggestions of places to visit and restaurants to eat were spot on. You do need a 4x4 to drive the 10 minutes to the house on the unpaved road, but it is all worth it when arriving at the property and all its beauty.
