About this property
Townhouse living in El Rosario, Oaxaca
Our townhouse is located outside of the centro of Oaxaca, in a working class neighborhood with a local market blocks from the house and nature easily accessible. The house was completely remodeled with natural stucco siding, wood cabinets and doors, new kitchen appliances and a small open air patio. A covered patio offers a small space for yoga or just relaxing in the hammock. The use of public transportation (or a car or an adventurous cyclist!) is necessary to go to the downtown areas.

Your host

We are a Oaxaca-Oregon family of 5. When in Oregon we love to hike, ski and play soccer. When in Oaxaca we love to go to the beach, spend time in the country and visit our favorite markets. Our three kids keep us busy with their activities of guitar, piano, soccer and hockey. I work at our small family business in Ashland and my husband is a natural resource economist. We recently remodeled Smit's home in Oaxaca in order for us to live there but a recent job has taken us outside of Oaxaca so we've decided to rent it to travelers instead.
Why they chose this property
Our home is located outside of the downtown area. This has its advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side you'll be in a completely Oaxacan neighborhood where Spanish is the only language spoken and you'll interact with friendly, welcoming neighbors who rarely see travelers in this part of Oaxaca. The community has a permanent daily market, many shops and a sports park with a track, soccer and baseball fields, basketball courts and exercise equipment. Within minutes there is a trail that takes you to a beautiful lookout of the central valley.
What makes this property unique
We just remodeled the home. Oaxaca experiences frequent water shortages so we built a cistern to avoid the inconveniences of running out of water. The complete kitchen has a new stove and oven with handcrafted tile. The outside covered terrace has space for either relaxing in the hammock or yoga. The downstairs open air patio is wonderful for meals outside. Inside the living space has a sofa and tv. We have a mountain bike at the house if you'd like to explore the area on bike.
