About this property
Kurashiki DEN - Whole Property - Bikan Chiku
Get the best of both worlds.
The property offers 5-Bedrooms (based on 2-pax/Room)
Both sides each offer complete shower/baths kitchens and laundry.
The traditional side offers tatami mat with futons while the modern side offers western style bedding.
The property offers beautiful Japanese style gardens, a traditional tea ceremony room and an outdoor sun-deck/porch.
Kurashiki DEN is comprised of two restored adjoined houses; an older, historic side that is traditionally decorated and a newer contemporary modern house that is decorated accordingly.
This listing is for the entire property and you will have access to all areas on the traditional side as well as the modern side.
We feel this will offer the best of both worlds as your group can experience both; the more traditional style of living still common today as well as the newer more modern style of Japanese living.
We are unique in Kurashiki because we are one of very few entire house rentals you will find in the Bikan Historic District. This space is ideally suited for families and small groups.
The Neighborhood:
Approximately 10min walk from the train station, Kurashiki DEN is located at the entrance to the Kurashiki Bikan Historical district.
The Kurashiki Bikan Historical district has a 400+ year history and is a main attraction in Kurashiki.
The Ohara museum, the first museum in Japan, is a few minutes away on foot.
Achi Shrine is a 1 min walk from Kurashiki DEN. Take a beautiful morning walk around the grounds - not to be missed.
There in an ever growing selection of restaurants, cafes, wine bars and local establishments, both traditional and modern in the immediate area.
Every Saturday morning and in all seasons, you can find the Roji Ichiba (farmers market) just two doors to the right of Kurashiki DEN. Open mornings and selling the freshest fruits and vegetables and other locally produced specialties from the region.
Don’t miss the restaurant directly in front of Kurashiki DEN’s front door, the small and very good, restaurant by Mr. Inoue. There is no sign and reservations are required. Experience an unforgettable Japanese cuisine dining experience.
You can plan several day-trips while staying in Kurashiki DEN.
The Setouchi Island Group is easy to reach and less than a 30 min ferry ride. There are many Museums and other permanent art installations. The Islands are home of the Triennial Setouchi Arts Festival which is spread over 13 islands just off the coast.
With car access, the mountains and hot springs are approximately 1 hr drive to the North or you can take a train to nearby Okayama and enjoy the Hiruzen Cycling Tours (guided or unguided) suitable for mountain biking, road bike or electric assist bikes and available for rent.
The city of Hiroshima is only a 1 hour fast train (Shinkansen) to the West and the impressive 400+ year old Himeiji City Castle is a 45 min Fast train to the East
Kurashiki DEN can easily be your base for a more extended adventure in Southern Japan.

About the host
Hosted by Honoka Kawazoe

My home town is about 30 min from Kurashiki. Being an artist, I have always loved Kurashiki because it is a place of very artistic people and rich history.
When my husband and I had the chance to buy this house, we thought it was a once in a lifetime chance. It was in poor condition and was in danger of being replaced with an apartment building.
We are lucky to have friends who specialize in historic restorations of houses like ours and even luckier that they were willing to help us restore this old house.
I am so happy to be a part of Kurashiki and be able to share a slice of historic Kurashiki and Japan to everyone who visits.
I hope you can have the same feelings when walking through the streets of the Bikan Area and imagine life as it was long ago.
Here in Kurashiki, you can visit Japans 1st museum, visit ancient shrines and temples, visit the parks and sit under cherry blossom trees in full bloom and experience Japanese cuisine at its finest.
We love traveling and have been to many destinations in Asia and Europe. We are always looking for a place like Kurashiki DEN. Where we can really get a true feeling for the places we’re visiting.
We look forward to your stay.
