About this property

Mountain Top Cabin 5 minutes from the John C. Campbell Folk School

Welcome to Bearfoot Lodge! This is a brand new cabin finished October 2019 on top of a mountain ridge with amazing views just 5 minutes from the John C. Campbell Folk School, 15 minutes from town, and just a few miles from the Harrah's Casino in Murphy, NC! We are centrally located between Atlanta, Chattanooga, Gatlinburg and Asheville! Easy access to all of your destinations! From our cabin you can see NC, GA & TN! We are in a secure and safe gated community that can only be entered with a gate code, however; we do not have neighbors on top of each other which makes you feel secluded. In our subdivision there is a family of deer and turkey that live here. We also have a few black bears that travel our ridge! (No hunting is allowed in our subdivision!)
Our cabin is is a spacious 3 bedroom, 2 & 1/2 bath that is fully equipped. We have a king, a queen, a twin, a full, a futon and a couch bed that converts to a queen bed so we are able to sleep 11 people. If you have guests that don't want to share a bed we also have two queen and one twin air mattress for your use.
The bathrooms have hair dryers and curling irons as well as first aid kits. We have a fully stocked kitchen to help you to be able to cook even a holiday dinner with ease! We have a Ninja blender, cookie sheets, crock pot, an iron & ironing board, large roasting pans, pie pans, rice cooker, spring form pans, waffle maker and a coffee grinder. If you reserve enough ahead of time and there is something for the kitchen that you would love to have on your visit, please let us know and we will do what we can to make sure that you have any reasonable item before you arrive.
We have two decks that face the NC & TN mountain ranges. Out of the back of the home you have a beautiful view of the GA mountain ranges! The bottom deck has an over sized swing and our main deck has a swing, a bench, 4 rocking chairs and a gas grill that is hooked to a large propane tank so you don't have to worry about running out of gas during your cooking on the grill.
We have also added a gate to the entrance of the top deck so you don't have to worry about your four-legged family running off the deck without you noticing!
Each bedroom has a smart TV that has the ability to watch Netflix & Hulu during your stay.
The loft area has two extra large chairs and ottomans so you can relax and read while staring at a beautiful view. It also has a desk area and printer for those that need to bring work with them. Free Wi-Fi is also included!
There are also many card games and board games if you decide to stay in instead of exploring this amazing part of the country.
The living room has a large smart TV and a remote gas fireplace for those evenings you want to snuggle in front of a fire.
The pantry has a full size washer and dryer to be able to use during your stay at Bearfoot Lodge.
For the smaller kids we have coloring books, books to read and a few toys that they can occupy themselves with if they get bored. For the adults, we have a few books, puzzles and adult coloring books as well!
Most rooms also include battery operated candles so you can enjoy a romantic ambiance during your stay!
We do have a fire pit at the property so make sure to pick up some firewood at the local gas station or stores around town.

There is not a landline at the home but most cell phones work up on the mountain due to a cell tower being close by. (This is not guaranteed though!)
If you would like extra cleaning during your stay, please let us know during booking so we can contact our cleaners ahead of time to let them know you want cleaning during your stay.

Cozy with Swoon-Worthy Views!

The cabin was clean and well-stocked with everything you'd need. The views were unbelievable - wish it had been warmer so we could have enjoyed the cute chairs and porch swing outside! The netflix and hulu subscriptions were enjoyed by all. It was nice to have the grill and dog gate on the porch. I loved the lantern chandelier and the copper sink in the kitchen! My favorite area was the two cozy reading chairs in the loft. Heaven! There were only a few drawbacks. One, the locks/handles on the doors were cute novelty latches, but were extremely loud and difficult to open. A few times my kids got stuck in the rooms until we figured out the trick to opening the doors (some you have to push the door and the latch at the same time in order to get out). While it wasn't a huge deal, it struck me as a fire hazard and just annoying in general. Two, the mattresses in the two upstairs rooms were extremely uncomfortable and squeaky. Nicer mattresses would have really been appreciated! (My brother and his wife who slept in the king bed said their mattress was very comfortable!) Overall we had a fantastic time and enjoyed ringing in the New Year at Bearfoot Lodge!

Relaxing and Refreshing Stay

We came for a wedding in a near by town. The scenery was beautiful! It was cloudy so we didn't get a good sunrise but the day time view was stunning. Very clean, comfortable, beautiful property and neighborhood. It has everything you would need for your stay is there except the food. Grocery store near by. The drive up might be the longest ten minutes ever but also very interesting. Cool stuff on the way. Lots of small winding roads but not bad. My brothers small hybrid made it, no problems. Lot of beautiful deer. Watch out for dolly the doe, her friends, and tom turkey. Plenty of beautiful birds singing without the humming or noise of city life. Walk around the block was great too. Thank for a wonderful stay. We would love to come back in the future.

New Years 2023

Our family closed out 2022 and began 2023 during this trip. The house was beautiful with wonderful views. I enjoyed all the wildlife mounts around the cabin and the live deer and turkey in the back yard almost daily. The house was well equipped with everything needed in the kitchen. Plenty of bathrooms for after those big meals. I would totally rent this cabin out again. My mother inlaw was scared of the narrow one lane road that leads up to the cabin. I had to ensure her of my quality driving skills. This was a wonderful trip. Sawmill was a great breakfast spot for us several mornings. We even picked up a steak at the Angus farm down the road a bit pricey but delicious.

Unbelievable views !!!

The Cabin is beautiful and clean. The views are amazing . You are literally above the clouds . The road up to the cabin is the only thing I didn't like, it's a one lane road and scary. Well for me anyway. lol If you want to be above the clouds, and see as far as the eye will let you then this is the cabin you want. Lots of deer also. Two walked right by the house our first morning there.

Best view we have ever had from a cabin! Drive up is worth it. Mattress topper for the queen size bed would make it more comfortable. Lots of taxidermy in the cabin…squirrels, ducks, turkey, deer.

Literally the BEST!!!

If you are scrolling through these reviews and trying to decide if you should book or not, do yourself a favor and just click the book it button…. You absolutely will not regret it. I graduated from Young Harris College back in 2014 and have been traveling to the area since. This is by far the best cabin we have stayed at (and we have stayed at well over 20 throughout the years). The cabin is immaculate and precisely described. The pictures do the view no justice what so ever. The owners skimped on no details as all the decorations, furniture even down to the plates/cups/bowls etc are fit to theme. The cabin is very well stocked with most of what you would need. Some of our favorite things to do in the area when we are not out on the deck viewing all the wildlife and amazing views are: - Bell Mountain (if you have never been, it’s very worth it!) - Helton Creek Falls - Helen - Brasstown Bald - downtown Blairsville for Cabin Coffee & Hole In The Wall The drive up can be a bit daunting if you are not used to mountain roads but rest assured it is so worth it!!! We already cannot wait to book our next trip.

Beautiful view!!

We rented this cabin for our entire family of 11 and throughly enjoyed our stay! We all slept comfortably on the various options for sleeping between beds, couches and air mattresses. We traveled with a 3 and 1 year old but the owners made sure to have 3 different baby gates to be used for each set of stairs, making our stay so much better without worrying about them getting hurt. The owners had everything you could think of stocked up here, from all the supplies needed to cook, soap for the washer, hair ties in the bathroom drawers, curling irons, coffee, hot cocoa, loads of great games, and even access to multiple streaming services already logged in. The driveway to the neighborhood is a little scary because of how narrow it was but we didn’t have any issues driving a van, large pickup truck and a car. The view from the top of this mountain makes the driveway so worth it, you are literally on the top of the mountain overlooking over 20 miles of mountains and valleys. The cleaning process wasn’t too tedious, and the cabin was definitely well taken care of! The porch swing and rockers made for amazing coffee spots in the morning and evening as the sun sets over the valley. Overall we loved staying here and didn’t want to leave!! We were about 20 minutes from downtown Murphy which has plenty of food options, including an ingles for shopping and even an amazing playground right on the side of a river only 5 min from the ingles. Highly recommend and we will be back next year!

Unbelievable Views!!!

Our stay at this property was, in one word-FANTASTIC!!! The home is exactly as stated in the listing. It was very clean and tidy. The furniture was very comfortable and the bed was perfect. The drive up to the property is a little daunting but, by the second day, it was a snap. That’s the trade off if you want those views and views we got! Communication with our host was excellent. Just a phone call away. The deck had plenty of seating for our star gazing and observing wildlife. We saw turkeys and deer. Lots of deer. We heard the calls of two different owls nearby and coyotes off in the distance. We couldn’t have asked for anything better to restore our souls. Thank you for lending us your beautiful home. It was utterly perfect.

A PEAK experience in more ways than one.

One would be hard pressed to find a better property than Bearfoot Lodge! Wonderful view from both sides of the property situated along the very peak of a mountain ridge. Sparkling clean upon our arrival. Well equipped kitchen was nice as we had planned some eat-in meals. The trip up the twisty paved road seemed long the very first time, but after that first time it really is quite short. Note for the motorcyclists (like us) - the gravel parking space is firm and flat - no issues. Very easy drive to Murphy, also an easy drive to Blairsville. Scenic rides in every direction from here. We thought 3 nights would be enough, but maybe next time we can stay longer!

About the host

Hosted by Kimberly Moulton

Host profile image
It all started about ten years ago when the owners were married. Broke and in debt, they got a steal on a cabin rental in Murphy from a friend. As the were out to breakfast one morning, he was looking through the real estate magazines and she asked what he was doing. His response was that one day they would own a house in the mountains….. she giggled…. And 10 years later here they are!
There is also a story behind the name of our home in the mountains. The two own a little ranch in Florida where they raised, and their five kids showed, show cattle. One evening at dusk she went for a walk down the dirt road they live on and heard a bear in the woods. She called him and asked, “What do I do?”, to which he promptly replied, “Get home!” He went the next morning to look for tracks, and there they were in the dirt on the side of the road! There was a black bear for a short time wandering around our town and she had finally made it out to the country they live, yes, we do have black bears in south Florida! Thus, Bearfoot Ranch was born!
Fast forward a few years and here they are, sharing their home with you! This home was a dream, long in the waiting, but soon enough became real. The home was completed in October of 2019, and they were ecstatic to see it finished. When they saw the finished product, it was all they had imagined. He is a builder and is always designing everything; she all but demanded to design this one, and he gladly obliged. I hope you are as pleased with it as they are.

Why they chose this property

On our first visit to the area looking for property we fell in love with the views that Brasstown Heights offered. After looking for months at numerous properties in the area we were drawn back to this mountain time and time again. Because the views are absolutely amazing here, we decided to build instead of buy a current home since one was not available at that time on this mountain.

What makes this property unique

Relaxation and tranquility!
