About this property

Heart of the Latin Quarter 2br Rooftop Duplex

With its original 400 year-old beams, hardwood floors and antique floor tiles, this feels like a country home in the heart of Paris. Quiet, open and airy with skylights throughout, it is furnished for comfort and coziness in warm, rich hues. My home can be your home away from home during your stay!

** This is my home, not a managed property; as such I appreciate getting to know a bit about potential guests. When you request to book, please introduce yourself and your group, your reason for coming to Paris, where you are traveling from, etc--I find it makes the experience so much more enjoyable for both sides to have personal, non-generic interaction!

** Note: This is a 5th (U.S. 6th) floor walk-up, no elevator, but all the better to work off those croissants, wine and cheese you may be enjoying during your stay in Paris!

** Please make sure you read through the description thoroughly before requesting to book where I try to address any questions you may have, but of course let me know if you do have any questions that aren't covered.

Your home away from home:
Located on a quiet street giving right onto the Place de la Sorbonne with its world-famous university, this charming and calm 2 bedroom, 65 square meter (700 square foot) duplex apartment is located 5 flights up to the top floor of a beautiful 17th century building in the heart of the Latin Quarter. A very calm, quiet building with only one apartment per floor for ultimate privacy, you are virtually a stone's throw to the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens and the famous Saint Germain shopping quarter just behind, as well as a 5-minute walk to the Seine with Notre Dame cathedral across the bridge on the Ile de la Cité; the heart of medieval Paris.

You are a 5-minute walk to the Pantheon, where among those buried in its necropolis are Voltaire, Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Émile Zola, Jean Moulin, Louis Braille, Jean Jaurès and Soufflot, its architect. Marie Curie was interred in 1995, the first woman interred on merit.

Just one block away you will find le Jardin du Luxembourg where the French Senate sits, and where you can go for a stroll, a run, sit in the sun by the pond, take your kids on a pony ride (seasonal) or watch the locals play a game of petanque.
Also around the corner is the Musee Cluny where can be found some of the last vestiges of the Roman Walls of Paris, and where reside the famous Dame de la Licorne tapestries.

This rooftop duplex has its original 400 year-old oak beams throughout and is bright, open and airy. It is furnished for comfort and coziness in warm, rich hues, with many of its features such as stairs leading up to the mezzanine second bedroom above, mantelpiece, kitchen sink and cabinetry having been sourced from "brocantes," the French antique flea markets. The kitchen and bathroom were recently remodeled, blending the old with the new.

Renovated and decorated by me, its Franco-Californian owner, the apartment is a mix of arty and old-worldly, with many decorative items lovingly chosen from my around-the-world travels. Every aspect has been thoughtfully chosen to create an atmosphere of warmth and serenity; the only danger is that once you arrive, you never want to leave!

The petite yet functional kitchen--along with being recently remodeled--has top-end appliances including gas burners/electric oven, and Miele washer and dryer. Just past the antique ceramic sink and the separative oak bar, the kitchen opens onto the dining area of the long, rectangular living space with its country dining room table on one end next to the decorative fireplace, and the living area with its couch you just want to sink into, opposite. Armchairs are newly reupholstered--please mind with food and drink!--and throw cushions are also all re-covered. Flooded with light from the living room double windows and three skylights, one really does feel tucked up and away under Paris' rooftops; a lovely respite from the busy streets below.

The living area provides a flat-screen television which comes with English-speaking channels including BBC, CNN, & ESPN Sports, and a DVD player with my own large selection of DVDs to pick from--old school. Sorry, no smart tv. Wifi is provided and it is a strong connection if you wish to stream something to your phone/computer.

There are two bedrooms: upstairs has a queen-sized bed, downstairs has a king, and are perfect for retiring to after a long day spent sightseeing. Both have high-power fans provided for hot summer days. The downstairs bedroom which faces the courtyard provides absolute silence, while upstairs one drifts off surrounded by the stunning 400 year-old beams that are the apartment’s bones, but also its heart.

**There is a wooden staircase going up to the mezzanine & large oak beams across the apartment: there should be NO attempt to climb onto the beams and please take care to not use the stairs in your socks to avoid risk of slipping. Renter agrees that the owner will not be liable for any injuries caused by these elements.

My apartment is professionally cleaned before your arrival, and I provide hotel quality towels and linens, both down and foam pillows, and a stocked kitchen with coffee/tea/oil/vinegar/spices, etc.

Winter in Paris

A great stay in a wonderful part of town. My partner and I had 5 nights, and the place is setup to live like a local with all you need. The location is stellar; in the heart of everything but tucked away in a quiet laneway and not too busy. A stones throw from Luxembourg Gardens, The Pantheon, St Germain des Prix and a short walk to multiple transport options, Ile de Cite and the Seine. We were made to feel at home through the booking, checking and stay and loved the homely set up. We can't wait to return. P&K

Lovely stay

My family and I came over for Christmas and needed to be close to the Sorbonne - Kelly’s place was more than perfect! It was so cozy and comfortable with such care and thought put into comfort - extra blankets, spices in the kitchen and such interesting and eclectic decor that truly make this place special. Very clean, very easy to work with the host and property manager - we will be back!

Beautiful, quiet perch in a lively quartier

My family and I loved staying at this charming, well-situated apartment that is bursting with whimsy and has everything a family of four needs for exploring the heart of the city. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Beyond special!

We can’t say enough about our experience, especially with the amazing owner Kelly who watched out for us beginning to end. We arrived during the Olympics and the city was electric but also a but insane. Kelly made sure we had all of the information we needed for a super trip. Her apartment is beyond soecial and located supremely. We are SO grateful!

Charming apartment, great location

We really enjoyed our stay in Paris! This was the perfect home base to explore the city. You are right by the Pantheon, the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Notre Dame. The apartment is on the 5th floor so be ready for stairs and hotter temperatures (there is generally no AC in Paris). We found the apartment to be very charming and comfortable. Having laundry in the unit was a bonus. The owner has decorated with an eclectic vibe, showcasing beautiful art and objects from her travels around the world. It really is a wonderful location and a gem of an apartment!

A welcome place from which to explore

This listing is a delight. Yes it’s up 5 flights of stairs but if you are fit and healthy that won’t be an issue. The location at the top of the building means you can be above the hustle and bustle. The place is full of everything you need - feather pillows, coffee, toiletries and even detergent for the washing machine. But what makes this stay truely exceptional is the location. Close enough but also far enough from the tourist hub. The metro is an easy stroll and importantly the restaurants and bars and the local life in Paris is on your doorstep. The metro nearby will take to you to and from the airport, the Eiffel Tower, Versailles and all without changing lines. Walk to Isle de la Cite, Notre Dame, the Seine and even the Louvre. Be in the heart of Paris with Jazz bars, bistros, shopping as well as the amazing Luxembourg park. The only reason not to stay here is if the stairs will be an issue for you. Otherwise the location and amenities are unbeatable.

Lovely, homey accommodation

This is a beautiful and interesting apartment, and the host is very conscientious and great at communication. Comfortable furniture, all the amenities one would need, sufficiently spacious for a family of four, and quiet enough for a location in the middle of the city. We did have one night where there was road work happening, which was quite noisy, but that is not the fault of the apartment or the hosts, just one of those city things. My only word of caution is that on a hot day the loft area, where the second bed is, gets far too hot to sleep in, and there’s really no way to cool it down. There are skylights, but because a previous guest left them open during a rain, they’ve been closed shut, and these would be the only way to get the hot air out of this high ceiling area. As a consequence my kids had to sleep on the couch cushions on the main (lower) level of the apartment. This worked out fine, but I would encourage the host to find a solution for this. The bedroom on the main level of the apartment is great—even on a hot day it stays fairly cool due to cross breezes.

Fabulous well located apartment

Our family loved this apartment. The location cannot be beat—on a small, quiet Latin Quarter street, it's steps from the Jardin du Luxembourg, wonderful restaurants, patisseries, the Monoprix, the metro, several cinemas, a 10 minute walk to the Seine. The compact kitchen is well appointed, the beds are comfortable, the bathroom is lovely, and we found that the 5 flights of stairs were easily doable. We loved the thoughtful decor and the many shelves of books. Thank you for a wonderful stay!!

Fantastic apartment!

We stayed in Kelly's apartment with two adults and two children (ages 6 and 10) for a week in June/July. First of all, the location is amazing! Just steps from all of the quaint streets, cafes, and landmarks in the Latin Quarter. A couple of blocks to Luxembourg Gardens, Pantheon, Notre Dame, etc. And easy access to metro stations--this was the perfect location for getting to attractions but never felt "touristy". The apartment was a perfect set up for two adults in the main bedroom and two children in the loft. It has all the things needed to let you feel a bit more like a local--kitchen, laundry, and a little space to spread out. A grocery story (MonoPrix) is close. The WiFi was very good. The stairs are typically French: narrow and spiraled. Getting heavy bags up when you arrive takes a bit of muscle, but after that not a big deal. It was pretty hot in Paris when we first arrived (low 80 degrees F) and with no air conditioning (standard for Paris) you definitely want to make use of the fans in the bedroom and loft and to open the windows to get some airflow (but close them when you leave!). We brought small rechargeable fans with us and those helped keep things cool. The loft was the hottest part--the kids didn't really seem to mind but adults sleeping up there might think differently. In short we had a wonderful stay. When we get back to Paris I would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful location

We had a great time staying at this property and I would most likely recommend it to friends. The location was outstanding and it really feels like a classic Parisian apartment. As others have mentioned, you should be aware of the steep and winding stairs going up to the 5th floor. It was quite warm during our stay and the apartment does get hot. However, with the fans provided, we had no problems sleeping and were rarely home during the day. The listing is mostly accurate, however, several additional items have been added to the already small space and it can feel chaotic once you add people and suitcases. Overall, we were pleased with the property and enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful apartment in great location

We had a fabulous stay here. As long as you read the description carefully and understand that its a walk-up with no elevator and narrow stairs, you'll love it! The apartment is beautifully decorated, with lots of light and everything you could need for your stay. Both Kelly and Vincent were super helpful and communicative, making sure we were comfortable and taken care of. The location is very convenient and close to lots of things. Bohemian Skylit Stay in Heart of Paris

This property met all of our expectations, and the host was gracious in every way and extremely responsive. We were within walking distance of really everything we needed, including a grocery store (Monoprix), an excellent bakery (Eric Kayser), and metro (Odeon / Cluny La Sorbonne). If you can manage some spiraling stairs at the beginning and ending of each journey, you won't be disappointed during your stay in this charming nook.

excellent location for a week stay

After a crazy ordeal arriving in Paris (not any fault of the owner here) we checked in five hours after we were supposed to arrive. No problems or complaining by the greeter. In fact, he was so apologetic and nice (again, it had nothing to do with him). Five hours is a long time to wait for an arrival, so his pleasant demeanor was above and beyond. The flat is super charming, rustic, perhaps a little bit Bohemian(?), very clean, fully functional, and comfortable. We loved it. Three of us had plenty of space to spread out. The master bedroom bed was very comfortable. The weather was super cold and wet while we were there, but the flat was cozy and warm. The five floors of stairs sounds harsh, but were surprisingly easy (and as other reviewers have mentioned, allows for a chance to work off some of the wine, pastries, and baguettes!). We got used to them in a day. For such an old building, it was surprisingly sturdy and quiet (not always the case in central Paris). We watched some of the World Cup football game there, so the cable works well. Good internet allowed for me to work while there. The building was getting some restoration work done outside (which is likely competed by this writing -- two weeks after we left) so we couldn't take advantage of any views of the neighboring buildings. It didn't matter really, we were hardly there during the day...when I was there I was working. The street is tiny and super quiet, and the place de la Sorbonne is charming and quaint. The square is pretty lively actually with locals, which was nice. The Latin Quarter rocks if you've never stayed there! (if you've stayed, you know). The owner was so helpful and courteous and checked in a couple of times as did the property manager just to see how things were going. We felt like we had someone to call on if we really needed something. Overall, this is a great place to stay in Paris. It fits with the Latin Quarter. The location is great. Due to Covid and being close to the holidays, we didn't ride the metro as much as we normally do, but taxis were numerous and helpful to have in the rain. We can't wait to return!

Nice apartment in a great location.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was very clean and cozy for the 3 of us. My daughter stayed in the upstairs room and loved it. The apartment is in a quiet area very close to the Sorbonne and within walking distance of a metro station. The apartment had everything we needed, the walk up 5 flights of stairs was challenging on day one but by the end of our stay it was almost easy. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks.

Fantastic flat in the heart of Paris

I spent 4 nights in March 2022 with family, including two kids (9, 2) and had a fantastic experience. Kelly’s flat is so warm and well appointed - we did not want for anything. In addition to quick, friendly and helpful communication from Kelly, We also found the property manager, to be friendly, prompt, and responsive - he made check-in and check-out a breeze. The location of the flat is ideal in so many ways, with great options for cafes, grocery, transports and sights all literally at the doorstep. Our family particularly loves spending afternoons at Jardin Luxembourg after long days exploring the city, and the flat is just a couple minutes walk from there. We have stayed in a number of properties around Paris in the 5th and 6th arr. and would rate Kelly’s as the best we’ve stayed in! Highly recommend.
