Great Spot

We stayed here to go snowmobiling. Great spot with plenty of parking and you can't beat the trail being right at the end of the driveway. House was large with plenty of room.

Awesome home / cabin, tons of history and character

It was tough to get in since I didn’t get the right code. Could have been a mess, but we recovered nicely after a few calls and texts. The home is awesome, very spacious, with direct snowmobile and orv trail access. Right around the corner is a few restaurants and a bar. Great place.

Fall vacation

We went up to watch Ferris vs Northern MI football and stayed a few extra days. It was beautiful. Very peaceful but close enough to town. The 3 seasons room was fantastic. Surrounding area is just beautiful. Hiked to waterfalls and saw beautiful light houses!

The perfect getaway.

The place was everything we thought it would be and then some. We loved the decor and the location was amazing. Our dog loved swimming in the lake and watching the birds and squirrels through the window at the bird feeder while we were getting ready for a day of hiking the area trails.

Great location

Beautiful property. Lots of space. The history of the home is interesting, but I could do with much less personal touches in the home personally. I felt like I was in someone’s full time house.

NMU drop off for our son

We had the pleasure of dropping off our son in the best way possible thanks to you. This home and location was the perfect end to our summer and beautiful beginning to his start of school. We could ge enough of the views of that home. We felt so comfortable being there. First night we felt like it was our second home. We will definitely keep coming back to this place. Thank you again

Peaceful home with incredible view of McKenzie Bay

This home is clearly very well cared for. Very comfortable, especially the lower level during hot summer days. The view is stunning and hard to describe unless you see it yourself. What a dreamy place!

Absolutely lovely

The house is 24 miles from Marquette, so it's pretty remote, but absolutely worth the extra travel time. We spent almost all of our waking hours on the screened-in porch overlooking the lake, counting goldfinch and bluebirds and sandhill cranes and--I could go on. The house is well appointed, and we had fun imagining how many kids could sleep on the lower level. Highly recommend and hope to return.

Perfect Getaway!

Been going up to Big Bay for close to 40 years. By far this is the best place we ever stayed. So peaceful and beautiful scenery. Seen eagles, turkey, and lots of wildlife. Can catch pike and perch right out the back lake. Cabin is very clean, so much nicer than the pictures. We can’t wait to go again!

Beautiful location!

This house is equipped with everything we needed. The only thing we could of needed to help with cleaning the frying pans was a scrubbing pad! We had a hard time getting the pans clean for the next guests. The property is quiet and secluded.

North woods snowmobile trip

Over all the property was very clean and well stocked with all items needed for a comfortable stay. If your a snowmobiler there was plenty of parking for tow vehicles and trailers. The snowmobile trail is right at the edge of the property. The gas station and mini mart is less than a mile down the trail. The lower level with its own bathroom and shower gives the lower level guests very nice private space. This house has an entrance that’s through half of a 2car garage great set up if you need to do any sled repairs!

If you think the photos are good, it’s better in person.

We spent 5 days here and didn’t want to check out. It is one of the best pieces of property in the area. It has so much to offer. We enjoyed the family history all over the property. What a beautiful way to honor the folks who lived in this house years ago. We used the boats, made fires, walked the property many times, enjoyed the views from the four seasons room and it was the perfect place to relax after going on excursions in the area. If you’re on the fence, book this place, it is better than the pictures. No offense to the photographer, the property really is something special. We would love to come back someday.

Perfect Fall Getaway

We came up from Alabama to see the fall colors. Loved the camp decor of the cabin and spent many hours on the porch enjoying our view of the pond. We were fortunate to see a couple of bald eagles flying over the pond and some deer feeding at the water's edge. If you're here to see the fall foliage, make sure to take a drive down 510. It's a well maintained gravel road not far from the cabin. It runs south about 20 miles to Hwy 41 and had some to the most spectacular colors we saw on our entire vacation.

About the host

Your host

Host profile image
Our parents first came to this area deer hunting in 1937. From then on it was a love affair that captured their hearts and finally moving here permanently in 1972. For the 8 of us children it was a vacation paradise and has become home for 7 of us.
Our parents taught us many strong family values and maintaining their home for others to share has become a priority since their deaths in 2005. You get a real taste of local history and the dedication to family and life that they shared.

Why they chose this property

If you enjoy watching birds out your window, deer grazing by the water, eagles flying over the water in search of dinner, watching the beaver swim, and the sound of a Sand Hill Crane, you will love our location. The rolling lawn is adjacent to the woods and gives a sense of privacy. This is truly a home to relax and enjoy your vacation, away from the busyness of the city, yet close enough to enjoy the highlights of Marquette and natural beauty of Big Bay.

What makes this property unique

There is plenty of room and all the amenities of home. Lake Independence is only a mile away and is known for its perch, walleye and northern pike. McKenzie Bay offers solitude and fun catching perch or pike - in the warm months. The ice is not safe for winter ice fishing.
