Really incredible!

We are already planning a return trip. To be steps from the actual beach was such a gift. Down the way where there is public beach access, many vacationers paid charter boats to take them to our island. However, we could simply walk the beaches at our leisure on our own schedule. No need to hire and schedule an outing. We also didn't need to hire a fishing guide as many others do. We knew enough about fishing to acquire licenses and bring our own equipment and caught fish right off our shore and dock because it was a prime spot. The highlight was catching a shark! Our hosts were very, very good and made us feel comfortable. They communicated pertinent information and were available if ever needed. Our family enjoyed beach combing. We found conch, starfish, sea urchin, jelly fish, and ALL SORTS of shells. (We brought home an entire tote of shells!) There is even a shipwreck to check out. Our older kids enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding and all sorts of beach games like cornhole and volleyball. The beach was an enjoyable place to sit in the sun or under the shade of umbrellas. This vrbo home was our vacation and it was truly worth every penny.

Complete Comfort Off-the-Grid

Cayo Costa has miles of unspoiled beaches, gorgeous sunsets and sunrises, mounds of shells, dolphins frolicking in the surf, seabirds of every variety, with not a mosquito or pesky insect in sight due to the brisk breeze. Despite being off the grid, the house had every modern amenity one could hope for: excellent Internet, lots of hot water, Netflix (etc), washer, dryer, and air conditioning. One needs to be excited about doing some cooking and some boating. Our hosts helped us arrange a boat rental and were there to help with any difficulty we had with transportation or navigation. Our hosts were incredibly helpful and responsive to our every question and need. They made us feel like friends and neighbors while sharing with us their passion for one of the most wild and remote beach locations in the US. This is a great vacation spot for people who love nature, a little advantage and enjoy boating. Highly recommended!

Fantastic property, excellent hosts

We had a fantastic vacation! The location is off the charts beautiful with sunrises over the intercoastal and sunsets over the gulf. There's a lot to do - shelling, going to the beach, swimming, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc. The house is really nice and very well equipped. Tony and Matt are THE BEST HOSTS! Super responsive and helpful. I gave the whole experience 5 stars because I can't give it 10. We'll be coming back to this exceptional property and location!

Great Stay and Great Hosts

We were pretty nervous following the hurricane about the condition of the house and island. The house was great and Matt and Tony were fantastic hosts for our family! The shelling and fishing were awesome. We were fortunate with some great weather. I would highly recommend this property and hope to come back again!

Absolutely amazing week!!!

My family had the absolute best time!!! The island is wild and beautiful, just what I was looking for!! We shelled, snorkeled, kayaked, fished and watched dolphins everyday. The house is very well stocked one of the best I’ve stayed in. On top of everything Tony and Matt are the absolute best have lots of info on the area and even took my family on a boat ride to and from dinner on cabbage key one night. Everyone in my group of 7 had an amazing time!!!

Off grid, not for 950.00 a day.

The house was amazing, the host were even more amazing. "I" did not reserve the house, I would have never paid 950.00 a day to be in a home off grid on solar and 80-84 during the day. The bedrooms had their own A/C (made things more tolerable). Overall, enjoyed the stay.

Nice secluded getaway

We rented this house for a pre holiday get away with our3 twenty something year old children. It was a perfect place for undisturbed family bonding - miles of deserted beautiful beaches , sunsets and fun filled days on the water . We arrived by boat. The house is well equipped and in good shape. Nice , responsive owners. When the roof deck is repaired and accessible , this house will be just about perfect.

I think we found paradise!

If you're looking for a remote getaway in a peaceful, non-populated setting, this is your place! Miles of beaches and the most amazing shells. The home is adequately set up for cooking and grilling. The location is unbeatable, steps to your private beach and dock. The views of the sunrise right from the master suite was amazing. We caught fish right off the dock. The beach has numerous chairs for sunbathing and relaxing. Plenty of enclosed entertaining space for the evenings. Highly recommend.

Wonderful Property

Had a superb 8 days at this lovely spot. The owners obviously take great pride in both keeping the place good shape. The house was very clean and all that we needed was there. Even kayaks for all 6 of us. They responded to our every question both before and during the trip, and made us very comfortable when we asked a favor. We have rented houses before in the area in this "off the grid" setting and found this house to have excellent power supply due to a very substantial state-of-the-art (pricey) battery system installed by the owner, plus nice reverse osmosis drinking water.

Perfect place to unwind and explore

We stayed here with our three boys, ages 11,11, and 9, for 4 nights. It is the most amazing place to relax, unwind and explore. It’s unlike anywhere we’ve ever vacationed before. The kids liked snorkeling and paddle boarding right in front of the house, and we watched as dolphins swam not too far away. We took daily walks, collecting hundreds of sea shells and stopping to swim all along the way. We spotted manatees and waded out, just up to our waist, and three manatees floated right up to us & poked their noses out of the water to say hi. One morning we chartered a fishing trip and our son hooked a tarpon that went flying through the air. Every day brought something new and magical. The owners were so nice and helpful. We will definitely come back!

A special destination

We stayed here for a week in July and spent our time walking, kayaking, shelling, fishing, snorkelling & relaxing. The wide variety and volume of fish we caught from the dock and the shoreline surpassed any fishing we had ever done elsewhere in Florida. We saw dolphins & manatee swim right past the dock. We collected some beautiful shells. Tony & Matt were great hosts. We didn't have our own boat so they transported us, our cases & groceries to the property (and back at the end of our stay). They explained about the solar panels, the air conditioning and answered any other questions that we had about the property. They brought us a restock of groceries halfway through our stay which we had ordered online from Publix. In summary.... an amazing week. We would love to visit again should we get the opportunity.

A unique and wonderful experience

Cayo Costa is a beautiful and serene place to get away to. The nature all around us was amazing. Not a day went by without seeing dolphins and manatees up close. Two manatees actually played with the kayak I was on! The rental has everything you need for a beach vacation and the owners, Matt and Tony, are always a close boat ride away for anything you may need. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to retreat to an island paradise away from everyone this is your chance. And the kids never got bored either. There was always something new to explore or play with. And when it came time to settle in at night, when the kids were all tired out from the sun and swimming, all the shows and movies they know from home were there on the smart tv so they could bath, get in pjs, feel comfy and settle down quickly.

Would give a 6th star!

If you are looking for a place to completely get away and recharge, this is it! We woke up to sounds of the wind and waves right off our porch. On our secluded beach, we collected shells, observed conch and crabs, saw fish, pelicans, dolphins and manatees. We watched unobstructed sunsets from the southern point of the island with no one else in sight. I can’t say enough about what a hidden gem this island is. The house was perfect - it’s off the grid, so come prepared for your stay...there are no convenience stores for forgotten items :). However, the house has everything you need to cook, sleep, and enjoy your time - a well equipped kitchen, great functional living space, several dining space options, etc. It also comes with plenty of beach toys, chairs and accoutrements. Tony and Matt were also fantastic and responsive hosts, making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our vacation! We cannot wait to book our next stay on Cayo Costa!

Perfect Paradise!

This beautiful beach home is exactly as advertised. We have rented homes all over Florida for 25 years and this was by far the cleanest, well kept home we have stayed in. Tony and Matt are fantastic hosts. They met us at the home on arrival and gave us a great tour, explaining the homes solar system, giving restaurant suggestions and information about the island. We had never stayed in a solar home before and had no idea what to expect. Their system is top notch and we never noticed a difference from traditional electric service. The internet was fantastic and the kitchen is the best stocked kitchen we have ever had in a rental. They even took another trip out mid week to get our trash and check to see if we needed them to bring anything we might have forgotten. Tony and Matts home was exactly what our family needed for a restful week. We rented a boat from a marina on Pine island for the week to use for fishing and sight seeing. The fishing was great! We had so much fresh fish to eat we only boated to a restaurant once. Lots of manatee, dolphin, sea turtles and the beach is extremely private with all the shells you could ask for. If you are looking for solitude and unspoiled Florida this is the place to be!

Beyond Awesome!

This is the hardest review I’ve ever written because Tony & Matt’s house was the most awesome rental we’ve every stayed at through the years and by writing this review, I risk it getting booked up not getting to stay there again! But, Tony & Matt are awesome folks so I must. Whatever expectations we had; they were truly exceeded by a wide margin. We were picked up by Tony & Matt in the nicest and largest pontoon boat we’ve ever seen and they took us straight to the house on Cayo Costa. They briefly showed us around and left us to go back to the mainland to pick up our groceries while we got unpacked. When they returned, they provided us a more thorough rundown of all the features of the property. The home has a private dock you can fish from which is great and you could see all of the Sheepshead, etc., swimming around the pylons. They have several quality kayaks and I and the Boss used those in the Pine Island sound which was fun. Downstairs they have a rec room with a TV, pool table, bathroom and fridge and Matt has fishing poles ready to go and bait and ice in the freezer! The house is great; spacious and well laid out with a master bedroom and bathroom upstairs and you can watch the sunrise right from the bed. Off this bedroom are stairs to go up the “crows nest” which offers awesome 360 views of the entire area and we watched sunsets over the gulf from there. The main floor has 2 nice bedrooms and a bathroom, a roomy living room, dining area and kitchen. The stove, oven and refrigerator were top notch brands and everything including the dishware and utensils were immaculate. The kitchen had anything you may need! A coffee bar completely stocked! My wife is finicky about her Starbucks Nitro Black Cold Brew and she isn’t happy when she can’t get that but she was happy with their setup. Oh, get this! Midweek, Tony & Matt let us place another grocery order with Publix that they picked up and brought to us so they could check in on us to see how we are doing and to take away the trash we had accumulated at that point. Talk about service! This is one of the few homes on the island; a 10-min walk to the miles of beach on the gulf side. So, awesome hosts, house & island and anyone would be ecstatic to stay here. I just hope business goes well this year and that this house is available for us to rent later on! Lastly, if you need a taxi service for your trip, be sure to get the contact info from Tony for Don M as he too was awesome. J&L

Perfect place for our family vacation

Our family of 7 had an amazing week at this house! Very clean, looks just like pictures & the beach and water are beautiful & a great snorkeling spot. Tony & Matt are great hosts & Tony was very helpful in advising about boat rental, what to bring & what not to. They also offered to bring us a Publix order halfway thru the week when they came to pick up garbage. The water to the house was the best I’ve ever had in FL We live on the east coast & I drink bottles water but, the water was clean & good to drink. They really thought of everything when stocking the house w/ bedding, pillows, nice towels & amenities. A nice gas stove that warms up quickly & has a large & small oven for warming leftovers which came in handy in lieu of a microwave. We enjoyed the privacy of being secluded & North Captiva is a short boat ride away if you want to go out to eat or need things. Jensen Marina is where we docked the boat & the Bubble Room restaurant was a 2 minute walk. Lots of spot to anchor the boat to snorkel, fish & swim. We had an amazing week & are so glad we chose this house for our vacation. I highly recommend!
