About this property
Restored farmhouse with pool, tennis and sea views in the Costa Brava
Can Canet is a restored farmhouse turned holiday residence. On a hill, the masia has superb views to the Medas Islands, the sea, and the rolling countryside. If you like peace, in a house where rustic charm meets modern convenience; spacious, airy rooms and bedrooms; if you like walks, swimming, tennis, or table tennis; starry nights, nature, and the great Costa Brava environment -sea, golf, cycling, art, food, wine, cava, restaurants-.. you will love Can Canet.
The house retains its elegant rustic catalan character with high-ceilings, chandelliers, and sun-lit rooms. The atmosphere of the house is welcoming, with lots of places to sit, and very large windows on to the beautiful valley and hills around it. This is a happy house where a large family (half Spanish, half English, 6 children in total with now their children as well) have enjoyed their vacation for many years.
Downstairs there are 2 lounges, 2 spacious halls, 2 staircases, a very large -completely equipped- kitchen, and utility room with toilet. Downstairs, there is also an en-suite double bedroom. Connected to the kitchen is the large porch -19m long- with outside dining and sitting areas, barbecue and games areas with views down to the Mediterranean sea.
Upstairs, there are another 5 bedrooms available: 2 are en-suite, 2 rooms share a large bathroom (with shower and bathtub) in between, so are perfect for a family, and the other bedroom has its own bathroom. Available separately (not included in the price) is an appartment with a kitchenette/lounge, double bedroom and ensuite. (Perfect for couples with very young babies or nannies, we have found). All the bedrooms are separated by thick walls, or large spaces, so there is total privacy.
The pool includes a pool house with shower/toilet/ fridge, and close to it is the tennis court, surrounded by 400 acres of the unique landscape of mediterranean oak, cork, pine and strawberry trees, with lovely paths to explore. One of the paths takes you to Santa Pellaia, a tiny set of houses and Church, with glorious views.
Whilst the propetry stands on a hill in the protected area of the Gavarres, it is only 4,6km away from Cassá de la Selva, a small town offering all conveniences. From Cassá, it is less than 30 minutes to the Costa Brava seaside, or to Girona -whether its to the High speed train station, local airport or lovely city itself- , and 1hour away from Barcelona.

About the host
Hosted by Silvia

Steve (English) and I (Spanish) bought this large house 10 years ago, as a place to reunite our family (3 children each) for holidays. We were both busy business people and although the first years we had lots of bulding in the house, whenever we arrived, the feel of the place and the far away view made us feel so peaceful and relaxed, like the world was far away. Since then we have made our family larger, with sons- and daughters-in-law and grand-children, who love it as much as we do, which makes it even nicer.
Why they chose this property
We were looking for a house somewhere in Spain... that was sunny - but not too hot, that had a green landscape - but not too much rain, that was close to the sea- but away from the crowds, where Steve could have a garden, with an estate large enough so we could have walks, and with views. We saw more than 10 houses and kept driving by this one, thinking it was out of our reach, until we dared ask.. and not only ended up buying it but made nice friends of the previous owners!
What makes this property unique
You can have an activity packed holiday, where you go out on trips every day and come back home to rest, or you can have a Can-Canet centered holiday.
In our family we have people that only want to go out to buy food and come back to cook it (myself), want to garden, walk and swim and go play golf from time to time (Steve), are super-sporty , so they run early in the morning, come back to swimming and a bit of yoga, to then play tennis and swim again (a couple of our children), do nothing all day except go down to the beach two days to perfect their tan (a couple others); we also have who paint, study, or project the holidays around the children, with serious pool and beach sessions as well as visits to Gnomeworld! We love watching films outside at night... having kebabs bbq, and a huge paella for 12... We also like to go as a large family down to Girona for an al-fresco curry and a stroll, at least once in the holiday, and having a serious dinner in a fancy place -just the grown-ups- is another of our traditions. When we receive friends we take a day-trip on a yatch out of Sant Feliu dine out a little more, and like to come back to a late night drink, with our own lemon peel and watching the Bisbal lights twinkling in the distance.
