We enjoyed our 4-weeks in Highlands at the Enchanted Cabin. June (5 stars!) has put much love into the cabin and one feels as if she has invited you to share in her life. Ample book selection, piano, and linen napkins make it feel like a snapshot into their life. She was very friendly and communicative, answered our many questions in a timely fashion, and very helpful when we had to move around our dates. The location is fabulous with the perfect juxtaposition of private, quiet in-the-woods-ambiance yet proximity to town, hikes, and area sites like waterfalls. You cannot hear the main road from her house. House was very clean upon arrival. The bedroom upstairs feels like a treehouse and wood burning fireplace in LR creates wonderful ambiance. Easy access to fenced area for dogs to go outside from back door. The hot water was plentiful.
There are a few basic items to help you get started in the kitchen that have been left from previous guests such as olive oil, salt, and pepper, cooking spray…but if you arrive at night, you may want to be prepared to stop and get your breakfast supplies. Kitchen is equipped with basics for simple meal prep. For more than the weekend grocery shopping there is a larger and less expensive market in Cashiers called Ingles, as well as a high end meat and fish shop in same strip called Native Prime. The Owner is very knowledgeable and sources his grass-fed, grass finished beef, etc, from Summerfield Farms, plus fish that he drives to pick-up himself off the coast of NC. His smoked bacon is The Best. The prices are high end, but being foodies, we were excited to purchase some delicious fish, shrimp, beef, and a lot of bacon from him.
Improvements (which should always be taken with a grain of salt, but why I cannot give 5 stars): perhaps it is because we were in Highlands for 4 weeks we got to know the house well. The furniture in the living room is quite careworn. We appreciate that it is a pet friendly house, but is on the older side. Additionally, the grill didn’t really work even after replacing the gas tank and ensuring the lines were clear. We did alert June who acknowledged grill’s lackluster performance but was not able to replace or repair during our stay.
We loved our first visit to Highlands and definitely considering a repeat visit next year.
