Abundant fruit and space in paradise
This is a huge house! We all had spacious private bedrooms that included bathrooms and kitchenettes. The great rooms in the center of both levels allowed plenty of space for family interaction and both kitchens were well appointed and served our meal prep needs well. The only thing that was lacking was a dishwasher on the lower level, so the upper kitchen’s dishwasher was running nonstop. Both levels had complete laundry facilities, which was great for the families with children. Outside, the grounds are beautiful, the pool is lovely, and the fresh fruit we harvested was divine. The location was perfect for us: just a short walk to beaches and a fun restaurant. I would love to return to the Ohana Retreat someday!

Amazing hidden gem!
We loved our stay at the Ohana Retreat! Gorgeous spacious property with all the amenities you could think of! Do the initial tour with Andrew! He takes you around the orchard to show you all the different fruits you can pick and eat at your stay. And at the end he has a nice sampler

Perfect
Our extended family stayed at Ohana Retreat as a final vacation with our terminally ill father. It was perfect and Andrew was a star Manager! He was kind enough to allow my parents to have a very late check out to accommodate the airline changing their flight schedule - and he even gave them a ride to the airport!!! Over the top accommodations! The pool and facility were exactly as promoted and it fit our 4 families (17 people) very well! Would definitely stay here again!

A Great Place To Have Privacy
The house is super clean and private. The property manager-Andrew is fantastic. The owners are responsive and professional. I’d recommend this property to a family who has enough people to rent both houses. ( The house is across the street from the ocean but the rocky shore line makes access a challenge.)I’d recommend getting a chef for the week and the other luxuries offered in resorts (tennis pro, fitness instructor, family photographer, daily housekeeping, sprinter van with a tour guide). The tennis court and plantation are really nice. My only constructive comments are the house seems sterile. I would have loved some floor rugs, artwork to feel more lush. The property is perfect-just need to decorate the house to make it feel like a home and luxurious.

Wonderful place for large groups
This property is perfect for large groups and for events. The fruit on the property was wonderful and we loved that we could pick what we wanted. The communication with the booking agent was great as we had lots of questions because we were going to celebrate an event and also we had several small kids/babies. They had an amazing amount of supplies for the beach, for the event and for the recreation on the property. The manager was wonderful and responded to us very quickly. We were very happy here!

A wonderful vacation home
We had our wedding at the Ohana Retreat in November of 2016 and it was perfect - there were several large common spaces where we could spend time as a group and everyone had their own personal space as well since each room has a bathroom and lanai attached. Booking with Carolyn was very easy and she was super helpful, sending a payment schedule and reminders. Miguel and Ariana that take care of the property helped everything go smoothly the day of the wedding and were kind enough to assist with all manner of tasks big and small throughout our stay. The tour of the property and fruit trees was excellent -another great feature of the property by the way, we had bananas, tangerines, star fruit and more picked from the property. The house is in a great location, close to tons of restaurants, shops and beautiful beaches. Our guests could choose to have an ultra relaxing vacation and loaf at the house most of the time, or they could keep busy every day, snorkelling with manta rays, visiting the volcano, driving to Hilo, etc etc I can't recommend it enough, we can't wait to go back!

Magical!
We had our wedding at Ohana Retreat in May 2016, and the experience can only be described as fabulous! Before arriving, Carolyn was very responsive to questions and helpful with our planning. Upon arrival, the property managers (Ariana and Miguel) were wonderful - the house was immaculate, and all the details were taken care of. The amenities were great - we were happy to have a selection of bikes, toys for the pool, beach towels, and the list goes on! The property is even more beautiful than the pictures depict. Our guests were in love with the plantation, and the tropical paradise of this property, which is well-removed from the busy Ali'i Drive but still convenient to walk to the beach. We highly recommend this property for a family get-together or a small wedding.

Plantation Hideaway
Ohana Retreat was a real treat! It is as advertised. We were a group of 11 and used seven of the eight bedrooms in the house. It is a large and well-appointed house that is very functional, very well designed but not luxurious. Amenities were pretty amazing though: a plantation with many varieties of fresh fruits available to guests, including coffee and cacao bushes. The owners provided samples of coffee and cacao harvested and processed on site! Ariana and Miguel are the resident managers and were pretty much available all the time and eager to please. There is a large swimming pool, tennis court, shuffle board court, large grassy area for playing croquet, many sheds with bikes, boogie boards, snorkeling gear and the like. It's a great place for a large group. There is an adjacent house which also has eight bedrooms (which I didn't see). Each floor of each house has a large great room with kitchen, dining and living plus an adjacent deck for dining. Two bedrooms on each level open into the great room. They have private baths and decks. Two more bedrooms on each level open onto a deck which then connects to the great room. These rooms also have another deck and minimal kitchen facilities. Kitchens were stocked with basics. The only oddity was that the only stove was in the upstairs kitchen. So we cooked upstairs and ate either upstairs (outside on the deck) or downstairs (inside at a fairly large dining table). There is also a large pavilion nearby that we used one night. It has grilling and cooking facilities, tables and chairs, little glittery lights, and Tiki lights, and a small pond and waterfall. In other words, it provides for a nice party atmosphere. The Ohana Retreat is inside a gated community and there are only a few properties there. It is close to Black Sands Beach (for surfing) south of Kona just off Ali'i Drive around mile marker 3.5. Another mile or so south is a park which is a really excellent snorkeling beach. So it's out of town but a great location for beach activities and a short car drive away for restaurants, shopping, etc. There is no ocean view. We would recommend this property to other groups.

Amazing stay in paradise
I can't speak highly enough of our entire experience at Ohana Retreat. We chose the location to hold our wedding, which was earlier this December, based on the beautiful pictures and availability to accommodate holding our family and close friends. The owner, Carolyn, was extremely responsive and helpful in communication and even picked up an item at Safeway prior to our arrival because she knew it may not be there by the time we arrived for the wedding. We rented both houses and it was like owning our own resort for a week. We had a diverse group from babies to grandparents and every single person had an amazing time. The setting for our wedding and reception was gorgeous and holding it on the grounds there helped keep things really simple. When we arrived everyone agreed that the pictures really don't do it justice - the grounds are absolutely breathtaking and the homes were spacious, clean, and relaxing. The house manager, Arianna, and her husband, Miguel, were extremely kind and knowledgeable of the grounds. They went well out of their way to make our experience special from the initial tour to providing various fruits on different days and manning the outdoor pizza oven. They are gems! Some of our guests were adventurists and used the property as a home base while others stayed put around the pool and tennis court for most days, but we all tended to meet up around the pool in the early evenings to grill and hang out in paradise together. I couldn't have asked for a better setting and really hope to go back!

There really is a "Fantasy Island"
I half expected a man in a white suit to greet us upon our arrival. I am so happy we picked this place to stay and have our daughter's wedding. I could have spent more money for a lavish wedding that would last a few hours, but for less, we rented this wonderful place for a week to enjoy the island and had a very beautiful wedding on the grounds. I only wish I could post pictures here to show how beautiful the wedding turned out. The caretakers, Miguel and Adriana, were terrific and attentive to our every need. They made sure we made the most out of our stay there. The Ohana Retreat is located in a prime area of Kona, close to most shops and restaurants, but is off a private road surrounded by grand palms and lush vegetation making one feel you are isolated from the hustle and bustle of the tourist crowd. In fact, some of our party, did not want to leave the property to visit the island sights. They chose to stay, enjoy the pool, and just relax. Did I mention the great orchard they have there as well? My wife loved picking the star fruit and having it fresh and chilled every morning. Their Kona coffee is the best I have had so far. I took a couple pounds of it home with me. I highly recommend this place for your family stay on the Big Island.

repeat guests didn't prepare me for the Best!
I loved every aspect of the Ohana Retreat! We rented the lower house and stayed for a full week for my daughter's Kona beach wedding. After our arrival everyone agreed this place was so beautiful that a wedding held on the grounds would be just as lovely as the pictures don't begin to do the grounds justice. Upon arrival the smells of the fragrant plumeria trees and flowers was intoxicating! Yes the home was immaculate! Each bedroom was so spacious and plenty of room for a crib or a roll away for the grandchildren. We stayed in the lower house and had plenty of privacy from the guests staying in the upper house. There was so much room and kitchens were equipped with everything (just like home) to cook onsite for our large group. The patios for outdoor gatherings, large main living room space, the grounds and the pool area and the amenities were wonderful! I was amazed with the beauty and serenity!! I really had no desire to travel long distances to see the spectacular sights on the island when there were so much to enjoy right on the plantation and so many options close by. We held a family wedding dinner at the pavilion. The plantation offered tables, table cloths, and loads of extras left behind from previous guests for our use! We really appreciated the managers, they are really nice and exceptional to work with! I have already began telling family members about this lovely rental property. We used the boogie boards, the beach chairs, snorkeling equipment, baseball mitts and ball, bicycles, children play toys, water shoes, beach umbrella, coolers....gosh putting a price tag on those extras makes this place an even better deal, very complete! I hope you enjoy the Ohana Retreat as much as I did! Mahalo!

Great location and Property
Looking for a large place for a very large family that was close to beach was tough on the Island. I was competing in the Worlds Championship Ironman race for the first time and found this place, the location was perfect. But it was so much more, there are two large houses on the property upper and lower (we had the whole lower) and while we didn't see the upper, we could only imagine it was just as nice. The plantation was a great retreat with a large pool, large pavilion and just a huge amount of grounds to just stroll and walk around. I would recommend this property to any family, corporate retreat or business. Very NICE!!!

There'll be tears when you leave
We did a family reunion here with another family from New Zealand. Having a full floor to ourselves, not to mention a bedroom and bathroom each (coffee pot, too), gave everyone the opportunity to spend time together, yet apart - so often needed on family occasions! Having spent the worst winter in Canada in years, coming here was like a hidden oasis. Imagine starting your day with fresh squeezed orange juice - fresh because you picked the oranges that morning and squeezed it yourself, followed by half a papaya that you also grabbed by on your way, and oh, maybe a couple of mangoes, just to see your through your breakfast. Swim in a beautiful pool, because you have to cool off following your tennis/basketball/shuffleboard/table tennis match. Load up your bike with some toys and make your way down the street to the incredible Magic Sands Beach. And that was our first day! We had a wonderful time with the grounds keeper, who helped us cook in the Portuguese oven - a full day experience, but well worth it. Dinner from this was such a huge success, eating outside in the pavilion with the cascading waterfall in the background. Even though we had a car, being so close to downtown, easy access with the trolley or other bus that took you as far as Walmart, gave everyone ample opportunity to do whatever they liked during the day. Shopping for a few groceries, then cooking dinner together, reviewing everyone's day and sharing lots of laughs was always a highlight of the evening. Then, exhausted after yet another day in paradise, to bed and ready to start all over again the next day. The fact that sixteen people were able to come together and have absolutely no issues over a ten day period, except that we all wished we were staying longer, speaks volumes for Ohana Retreat. We were treated to homemade chocolate and roasted coffee; any questions/concern we had about our accommodations were dealt with immediately, professionally, respectably. Leaving was incredibly difficult for all of us, realizing that this was a once in a lifetime experience, enhanced entirely by Ohana Retreat. The only downfall for us was that there was no Kleenex by the driveway when everyone left!

True Hawaiian experience
My extended family and I recently returned from a two week stay at the Ohana Retreat in Kona and all I can say is WOW! The grounds are impeccable. I wasnt sure if I was in Bora Bora or Kailua-Kona! Gorgeous flowers abound, palm trees, lush gardens, ocean breezes.. this place has it all! Id wake each morning and walk out the front door and pick fresh mango, papaya, starfruit and banana for breakfast right off the trees! The kids would run out into the plantation and we'd pick fresh citrus for juicing. Fresh brewed Kona coffee roasted especially for us the day before. We'd hit up the garden at lunch for fresh produce. It is literally like no other experience I've had in all the years of traveling to Hawaii. The true Hawaiian experience. I didn't want to leave! And, with all the amenities; we dint have to! We made two runs to costco for food and did all our cooking on site, eating each night on the grand lanai or at the pavilion with its flat screen tv, bbq and ample seating. With close proximity to the beach, downtown, grocery stores; this is the best spot for family gatherings in all of Hawaii. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable with regards to the flowers, fruits and produce. I was interested in making fresh hibiscus tea; they helped me pick and dry hibiscus. We steeped it and made refreshing iced tea! Incredible! So much to offer all ages. The kids loved the pool, shuffle board, ping pong, tennis courts, basketball, bikes, beach equipment.. they had everything we needed to bike in to town, a trip to the beach or a day trip around the island; providing coolers for our lunches! And the adults loved the warm evenings under the pavilion while the kids were fast asleep. This place truly is all about Ohana. So much so that our family has already booked our return trip for 2013!

Outstanding
I recently returned from spending a week at the Ohana Retreat with 20 members of my family. I cannot say enough about this wonderful place!! We had three generations of family including 5 boys (ages 7-14). Everyone found everything they wanted or needed at Ohana. The children were safe and found an amazing array of toys and games. The adults found plenty of places to just hang out or sit back and relax. This is the perfect place for a family (or a group of close friends) to have a reunion or just a vacation. The staff is friendly and eager to help in any way. The pictures online do not do the place justice or begin to describe all of the things that are provided in the house. I would suggest taking an inventory of the cabinets and refrigerator before making a list for the grocery store as many things are left by departing guests and many things are provided by the Ohana Retreat. The house is wonderful and the location is just perfect. Being in a gated community provides an extra sense of security. I would love to go again and again and I would recommend this place to anyone.

Amazing
I just got back from a 10 day stay at the Ohana Retreat. My family and very close friends ALL had an AMAZING vacation. The Ohana Retreat exceeded all of our expectations. I really don't know were to start. We had a group of 15 adults and 5 children and everyone love this place. Everything about this property gets a 5 star rating in my book. The home was awesome there was so much room, the beds were comfortable, the pool and play area were used everyday. The FRESH fruit and chocolate from the plantation was delicious. Randall the property manager was so accommodating. I could go on and on.....We all did not want to come home. We can't wait to go back again.

Great place
So many wonderful things - every room is large, clean, has small fridge and bathroom - a plus when you have 14 people! Two kitchens (one on each floor) allowed for "floor parties" very fun. Pool perfectly arranged - plantation beautiful. We had my in-laws 60th anniversary here and the on site staff were wonderful in helping us set it up - beautiful party lanai - we had a guitar duo and then hula dancers there who performed for our family - so perfect - my in-laws were completely enchanted! Many days we just walked to the beach and or hung out at the house - no need to get in the car and join the traffic. ALSO everything you need is there! Boogie boards, bikes, all the cooking utensils you could possibly need. We made dinner in nightly and it was great fun. Never ate dinner out! Too many of us anyway. 6 and 4 year old loved it! 82 and 87 year old loved it! And everyone in between! Would recommend and will go back!

Beautiful!
All we can say is "WOW!" We just had the pleasure of returning from Hawaii a week ago, and I can not say enough about the Kona plantation (Ohana Retreat). It is so beautiful all around. The house was immaculate when we arrived and we were welcomed by Randell who showed us around the grounds with a fantastic tour. He is full of information! I was fortunate enough to have my wedding here and it was more than I could ever have imagined. Everything was perfect, especially having all the gear and equipment accessible to us during our stay, the lush tropical feel of all the plants and palms and having the beach so close. It is the best of both worlds! We are planning a trip back to Kona solely so that we can enjoy another week in the house! Thanks again Carolyn and Randell!

An Amazing Place
We went searching for the perfect place to hold our daughter's wedding and we found it, when we found the Ohana Retreat. It has everything that we wanted to have for the wedding. A huge home that friends and family could enjoy for the week. The house was in great condition and very clean. A private and beautiful estate, with loads of trees and plants to pick fresh fruit from. Our own private swimming pool and tennis court. There is a garage full of anything and everything that you might need on your Hawaiian vacation;bikes, snorkel gear, mats, beach toys, boogie boards and more! It was paradise! The owners were very kind to allow us to use the Ohana Retreat for not only the wedding, but for a Welcome Party and the Loco Moco Breakfast the day after the wedding. There were no huge "wedding charge" or extra cleaning fee when we rented the Ohana Retreat for the week. There is a noise cut off time of 10 pm, but we were fine with that. We just started the wedding early. We were allowed the freedom to enjoy this beautiful estate, as we pleased, The grounds are very well kept and Randel, the caretaker and his crew made sure that everything was perfect for the wedding. They cleaned up everything, helped with the lighting, moved things around for us and more. They were great! The wedding was indeed, perfect! Do not hesitate to rent this amazing place, you will not be sorry. We are hoping to go back in the very near future.

Great family gathering spot
Grandparents, parents, children, relatives and friends--we all had a wonderful time. I especially enjoyed the demonstration of chocolate making by the owner, followed by a bag of chocolates for us to share. The avocados were like butter and mangos--all delicious. The bird watchers were up at dawn and renamed the street Cardinal Way for the three varieties in abundance. The saffron finches were beautiful. I would and did recommend this spot to a friend. We took our grandsons on the Atlantis submarine--a great experience. Plenty to see and do.
