Second time renting from Lucca apartments and Villas

We spent a week at this wonderful villa in September 2015., a week that we will never forget. This Villa is beautifully decorated and so comfortable. The owners are wonderful people that make you feel like family. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome cooking a delicious dinner for us, setting a beautiful table, making homemade desserts for us, providing helpful info, and just having fun with us. We visited San Gimignano, Pisa, Cinque Terre and Florence during our week. We also spent 2 days just hanging out, enjoying the beautiful scenery and weather. We were so sad to say goodbye to Mrs Sonia and her family. This was my second time renting a villa from her and I am so happy I found a reliable contact in Tuscany. We will visit again next year.

Relaxing week in Tuscany

We celebrated two wedding anniversaries, our 20th and my sister and brother-in-law's 25th by taking our family on a trip to Italy. There were 6 adults and 6 teenagers and after a week touring Rome and Florence, we spent our second week relaxing at villa principesa Elisa. We took a few day trips to Lucca, Cinque Terre, and Pisa. Everyone enjoyed their stay so much that it was hard to leave the Villa and come back to reality. The grounds were/are absolutely beautiful. There are olive trees, plum trees, pear trees, and vineyard. We were welcomed with several bottles of olive oil, wine, fresh fruit and vegetables, all of which came from the grounds at the villa. There is a beautiful pool which we swam in everyday as it was heated and the spa was the highlight. Chef Cristina cooked some fabulous Italian meals during our stay thank you Sonia for helping us plan a trip of a lifetime! What a beautiful trip and such wonderful people that we met we hope to come back!

Wonderful scenery and fantastic holiday

Everything was wonderful! From the moment we arrived at the Villa until the day we left the family with a tearful goodbye, our vacation was a dream come true!! The Villa and the surrounding grounds were beautiful and wonderfully decorated and landscaped. Sonia and her family could not have been more accommodating and helpful-from printing directions to giving advice on places to go- to cooking a delicious meal on our first evening there -to surprising us with homemade treats on several occasions. We were treated as family and felt as if we were. We miss them!! Have already recommended Villa Elisa to family and friends!

Perfect Holidays

We spent wonderful holidays in this perfect property. We have already rented many homes worldwide but without a doubt this place is clearly a 5/5. It all started with the booking process , Email conversation with Sonja, and the perfect care by Cristina. She picked us up at the appointment point and showed us the way to the house, which is lovely located in the middle of olives trees a little bit uphill of Lucca. Cristina helped within minutes, when we needed support - GRAZIE! We were 3-5 adults and kids from 1-8 years old. They loved the nice pool area and the fenced garden to play. The house is equipped with everything you need. Especially for Italy, you will have comfortable beds and warm water no matter how many people are taking a shower:) Thanks to all, that we could spend such a holiday - keep continuing like this

A memorable villa with pool in Lucca !

This place is flat out wonderful! Not only it is clean and neat and lovingly cared for, but look around you! Every little detail is done to perfection. In short, it's just what you want a tuscan farmhouse villa in a 1st century Tuscan hillside hamlet to look like. The pictures on here do not do this place justice. Having a private SPA with a brand new finnish sauna and steam bath was a real bonus. We never found a villa like this before. Having a car is great so you can explore all the famous hill towns as well as Lucca town centre and its wine country, all of which are easy day trips. Lucca town centre is at less than 10 minutes drive! We especially enjoyed Lucca, the hills around the villa and Montecarlo. The nearby village of Matraia is nice to see and provides you with an excellent supermarket and amazing little groceries and easy access to roads leading everywhere. Sonia is on the premises every day to guide you around the area, providing very helpful information on parking, tours, restaurants, etc. (Her English is very good, by the way.) She totally understands customer service and obviously enjoys being the proprietor of this lovely place. She might even give you a whiff of her own homegrown and heavenly olive oil. On the sad day when we left the villa, I promised Sonia I would write her a glowing review and recommend it to everyone. And indeed I do! Thank you Sonia for a memorable week in Tuscany!

A fantastic villa for a group break

We had such a fantastic time at Villa Principessa Elisa. The villa has everything we could possibly want. Great communal areas for spending time together and enough space for time apart. The garden is beautiful, with lots of seating and the pool got lots of use. Great BBQ too. We loved the area - it's a quick drive down into Lucca, but the villa itself is peaceful. The only annoying thing about the villa was the constant need to be thinking about rubbish (having to put out a different bin every day). While the schedule is obviously set by the council, the villa team could make it easier by ensuring that the right types of rubbish bags are provided.

A Wonderful Week

Our group of 4 couples had a fabulous week in this villa. We enjoyed both the interior and the exterior spaces, the large dining room, the lovely decor, and the surrounding countryside which provided lovely places for walks. We felt very much at home and would have enjoyed staying longer.

Great place but, watch the electricity and garbage

The villa was beautiful and immaculately maintained. We were a party of 10 and enjoyed plenty of room and comfort. There were two problems. The owner included an electricity allowance of 200 euro. This is not enough! We were extremely careful in our usage (we never used the sauna for instance) and yet, I had to pay 113 additional euro for electricity overage. The second problem is with the garbage. There are very strict rules regarding the days upon which type of garbage must be put out for collection. The owner insists all garbage must be removed when checking-out. This is a very difficult task because Saturday is not the collection day for many types of garbage. The owner did not provide the location of any public disposal sites. Consequently, we were forced to take garbage to Parma (our next destination) for disposal. This is totally unacceptable.

Lovely house in the beautiful hills

Perfect for a big family get together! We went for my mother’s birthday, and had the whole family there. It was wonderful! The house has the perfect set up, lots of space so you don’t feel on top of one another and big communal areas so you can eat, drink and laugh together. The location of the house, albeit up some bumpy winding roads, is just perfect. Stunning views from the bedroom windows, there are some lovely walks/runs surrounding the house and it’s just a short drive to shops and restaurants. Lucca is less than 15 minutes away too. The only thing that could have made our trip better is a bit more sunshine. Would thoroughly recommend!

Very special place

We traveled to Lucca with 10 adult family and friends. What a beautiful home! The view from each window is spectacular. After walking miles each day it was a treat to come home and be able to swim. We had Alice prepare two meals for us and it was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfect. Thank you so much for the perfect vacation!

words cannot describe Villa Principessa Elisa

Words can not describe my vacation of a life time. After my first trip to Italy I knew I wanted to go back to the Tuscany area and rent a villa on the top of the mountain. When I did this I had no idea what a spectacular place I have picked. Of course I had some help from my daughter from NY who knew someone that said there is no other place to go. How true those words were. I am 69 years old and I have no desire to go anywhere else in the world after taking this trip. I truly thought I had died and gone to heaven. Oh, I would go back in a skinny minute. Villa Principessa Elisa by Mrs Sonia was the most beautiful place I have ever seen. There were 6 of us from ages 30 to 69 (my family and my family friends rented another villa nearby from Mrs Sonia as well)and what a wonderful time we all had. Alice, our greeter, was a delightful lady (half Italian and half American) that saw after all our needs and helped us with everything. We had massages, Italian dinners cooked in the home, (one meal was French as we had a family that came from France to be with us) directions to wherever we wanted to go and nights on the town with music in the streets. There was not one minute of our vacation that I did not enjoy. I know I have rambled, but like I said in the beginning there are no words to describe this place. You must go there and see for yourself

Typical Tuscan Villa

We stayed a week and loved the location and feel of the property. It is prefect for a big family reunion. You do have to keep up on the daily trash duties and be conciseness of the electricity you are using, but other then this it is fine. The 200 euro limit on electricity is doable with a family of 8 adults and 4 kids, even using the sauna and bath and pool, we were slightly over on our usage, but they waved the 10 euros at check out and took care of the remaining trash we had left. It was difficult to find the place, it is better to use the coordinates with google maps not the address that is provided. Make sure to ask how to use the sauna and bath, it is not straight forward and we had look up the manual on line.

Fabulous pool and spacious welcoming house

This house was perfect for my family, including grandparents ( my husband and I ) our 3 grown children with spouses and 4 grandchildren under 5. The house deserves 4.5, only because of an internet problem. The internet stopped working and we were without connection for 4 days. We complained and finally got a new modem which was great, but why not sooner. In fairness the owner did not charge me for an 80 euro overcharge on electricity, but no internet was a pain and expensive for me to use my phone. Many of the reviews highlighted Sonia whom we never met and thus did not get input on local recommendations. We did have Alice Dami who prepared 3 excellent meals for us. Each meal was progressively better as she got to know our tastes. She was professional as was her assistant.Thefood and wine delicious and plentiful. Such lovely evenings with nice table set with flowers and good food. Strongly recommend . You can not go wrong with this house. I would not change the accommodations, but more local input would have been nice

Beautiful freshly renovated house with great pool

Our large extended family of 9 enjoyed staying here very much. Highlight was pool among the olives, Multiple bedrooms many with own bath, recently renovated. Beautiful shaded patio where we had dinners several nights. Alice and her helper prepared and served a couple of wonderful meals with excellent local wine. House has AC in all bedrooms and most living areas - kept temps at 22 deg C while we had some hot daytime highs of 30-33 deg C. ( it dumps heat in pool so on hot afternoons the pool is extra warm). An old cobble stone road is on way up - take it slow. Beautiful walk up road into hills and overlooks if you like. Have them send you picture of driveway - a sign would be quite helpful. Italian recycling requires more sorting than here in US with a different kind picked up very early each day, but we found that down hill on edge of town there were public cans to toss the bags in at our convienence. Esselunga is a great supermarket near by with cafe. Take a bike ride on wide walkway on top of tree shaded walls of Lucca for treat.

A good house but some genuine misgivings

Overall a good house, however we had some genuine misgivings in terms of how the holiday was managed by the owner/her representatives. Positives: a beautiful house that has been expertly renovated. A lovely pool. A great location (short drive from Pisa, close to Florence, very close to Lucca). A beautiful setting. Negatives: at the end of the stay we were charged for additional costs totalling €155. It was not clear when we booked the property that this could happen. As we were told to give a €500 security deposit on arrival, this money was simply taken from us at the end of the holiday. We disputed the basis of the charges but had no recourse. Further explanation of this is given below. €125 was for electricity use over the cap of €200. We were a party of nine adults that did not overuse electricity beyond what could be expected. We were there in April and so did not use the air con. We used the sauna once. The weather was mild so we did not need heating - we dutifully turned down the thermostats on a daily basis (instructions on how to use the heating system would have been useful). I honestly do not know how we could have been more mindful of our energy consumption. €30 was for disposal of rubbish. An explanation of this charge was written on the underside of a piece of paper detailing the electricity meter readings, however none of us saw this and it was not explained on arrival. I feel this charge is rather cynical. Without going into too much detail, it would be impossible to leave the house and not leave any rubbish behind. This is because the authorities pick up one type of rubbish/recycling per day (there are several types). So on the last day you will without doubt be left with several bags of rubbish and/or recycling. The only option would be to dispose of this yourself, however no details were given of where this could be done, or indeed that we would need to do this. These unexpected charges meant we ended our holiday feeling upset, and as though we were being unfairly taken advantage of.

Wonderful family vacation

This is a wonderful place to spend your family vacation. The location is great to get to all the places you want to visit in the area and the tiny village is nice. There is a great olive oil farmer and a wonderful little market within a short distance. The bar (at the end of the driveway) is also stocked with icecream for the kids. The highlight of our trip was our dinners at the villa on the terrace, especially the night that the owners helped us arrange for a chef to cook dinner for us all. We were two families staying with young teenagers and a toddler. We had enough space for all and lots of things to do for everyone. I would recommend this place without hesitation.

glorious relaxing week

Our group of 6 couples drove to Lucca from Venice or Rome and Sonia's directions took us right to the Villa. We got settled in our respective rooms and Sonia arrived to tell us about the local area, places to visit, and included a couple of special activities we might want to participate in: a make-your-own pizza party at the Villa, a visit to a local blacksmith, dinner provided by a local cook, etc. We wanted to see the walled city of Lucca, Cinque Terrea, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the statue of David in Florence. We took advantage of all of Sonia's suggested activities, and really enjoyed each of them. We followed her suggestions on the day trips to Florence, Cinque Terre, and Pisa and had no trouble getting around the cities and seeing the sights. In and around the Villa we visited the city of Lucca for shopping and food, crossed the valley to attend a local church festival, and visited the blacksmith. We decided to have all of our dinners at the Villa, including one cooked by a local lady, and for a couple of meals we bought several dishes from a local deli/food shop and sampled the local food and wine and beer. The pizza party was a great event for our group and Mrs Christina -the cook- provided all the fixings and showed us how to make our own pizzas. The Villa itself is beautiful, with wonderful views of the local area. Some of us even got out and tried the swimming pool (which was heated!) other used the wonderful spa (great sauna and steam bath) and others hiked up above the Villa to the church that was destroyed during WWII. The villa has a wonderful game and tv/cinema room on the top floor (great for parties). Our entire visit was relaxing and quite enjoyable--we hated to leave. Sonia was very helpful and had suggestions and answers for all of our questions -- it was clear he was happy to have us experience this piece of heaven. Me and my husband have spent 2 more weeks in one of Sonia’s town apartment which I highly recommend.
