Beautiful cottage in a beautiful part of the country

I recently stayed at the Pavk Horse for four nights. Upon arrival, the property looks stunning, set right beside an ancient footbridge over a pretty little stream. Inside the property is just as impressive as the outside and is all finished to a high quality. The lounge has ample room with 2 comfortable sofas and a dining table with a large smart YV. The lounge also has access to the balcony. The balcony overlooks the bridge and stream and is a great place to have breakfast or just sit and watch the world go by as the sun goes down. The bedrooms are both a fair size with big double beds, ample storage and large TVs. The bed I used was very comfortable and I had no problem sleeping all the time I was there. There is also a well finished bathroom with a shower and a small kitchen with all the amenities you could need for your stay. Wifi was accessible throughout the property and I had no problems connecting and it was easily good enough to stream netflix, etc. There's ample parking on site, but I have to say it felt a bit tight getting under the building to it at first. The hosts, Paul and Will were really friendly and approachable. When I arrived I was greeted by Paul and he showed me round the property and explained how everything worked. Paul also told me about the village and local area, where to eat, shop, etc. Exmoor itself is a lovely part of the country with some amazing countryside and little towns. I'd happily stay at the Pack Horse again.

Amazing Views, lovely property

This property is very comfortable and attractive. It was well maintained, very clean and accommodated 5 people easily with 2 large comfortable sofas, and plenty of seating and equipment for dining. The beds were extremely comfortable and we slept much better than usual which was also due to the tinkly sound of the stream outside the bedroom window. The location and views are to die for and we felt very lucky to have found it. It was also a bonus not to have to drive down miles of single track roads, as it was very easy to get to.

Great Weekend Family And Friends

Very friendly welcome, the apartment was warm and cosy as the weather was cold, we cook in most nights with a very well equipped kitchen. The owner was very helpful, I would stay again at The Pack Horse.

Wonderful location!

We had a lovely time in Bridge View cottage - very clean, warm and welcoming. Beautiful views across the valley and added bonus of hearing the stream gurgling past the cottage at night.

About the host

Hosted by Wills Virgo

Host profile image
Paul and myself Wills relocated to north Devon early this year, we moved from sunny Sussex to discover a new adventure in the west country, eventually we found, what we had been looking for! we took over the pack horse in August 2022, The Garner family who previously owned the Pack horse made a life change in 2000, moving from Oxfordshire to Exmoor to run this small holiday complex in this unique picturesque National trust village of Allerford, they worked extremely hard to turn the run down complex into what it is today, the Garner family passed the baton onto us and we continue to welcoming guests old and new to this very special part of Exmoor a real gem just of the beaten track but a little peace of England at its best.

Why they chose this property

Bridge view is just so unique, a first floor apt with views from every window!
The stunning oak panelled lounge has access to a small balcony overlooking the ancient Pack horse Bridge, the two other lead lighted windows give uninterrupted views of the river below and surrounding countryside, sit and read a book listening to the babbling river watch for the river wildlife to come by or simply relax in the comfortable sofas and re- charge your batteries in such a beautiful surroundings.
Enjoy the fab views and the sound of the river from the main bedroom you may not want to get out of bed!
Having one further king size it’s a perfect space for all the family and friends with its kitchen / diner allowing family holiday meals, however, the space is not over big making it a cosy comfortable apt for couples too.

What makes this property unique

Unique apartment overlooking the ancient Bridge and river Aller, on the edge of the pretty National trust village with immediate access to the surrounding countryside, paths leading to the sea and an abundance of Exmoor paths.
We live on site so always on hand to give you information on the local area suggestions on walks days out restaurants etc, and should you need help with any aspect of your stay.
