Our theater company rented this beautiful home for two weeks so that our artists from around the country would have a place to live and bond together while rehearsing. From the beach to the living room to the spacious backyard, this was the perfect property to spread out, relax and enjoy each other’s company. The host was communicative and flexible and the amenities top notch.
We have been coming to Rye every year for about 18 years. We have stayed in 5 houses during that time, this is the first time in this house. What stands out is the way the deck is situated right next to the kitchen. French doors open onto a large square deck with plenty of chairs and an excellent grill. The kitchen is smaller but is well stocked with cooking utensils and dishes. There is also plenty of room for your own food.
We spent most of our week sitting outdoors cooking and spending time together. The yard is large and lovely with plenty of shade trees. Because the deck and kitchen flow so well and are so inviting, we only turned on the TV once all week. The living room is cozy and the couches face each other so it’s also easy to gather if you prefer. The downstairs master bedroom is huge and the bed is very comfortable. The only drawback is the walk to the bathroom through the living room in the middle of the night.
There is plenty of AC and the outdoor shower is also a plus.
We also enjoyed being down on the cable rd beach. There are outhouses, not optimal, but hey, ok. There is also common roots for breakfast, smoothies, and snacks. We were very happy to have that since we were used to being across from summer sessions.
This is a lovely house for a family in a quiet neighborhood and a short walk to the beach. In all the houses we have stayed at, we spent more time outside on this deck than any other house we have been in. As a result, we spent more quality time together. We are booking it again for next summer!
We really enjoyed our stay at Big Rock Road. The place was very accommodating. The best part was the deck and the large yard. Since we were traveling from out of state it was great that a lot of the amenities were provided including linens, bed sheets, bath, and kitchen supplies. The location is a quick walk to the beach and since parking can be issue around this area the large driveway was invaluable so family and friends could visit for the day. Thank you so much for making our vacation so wonderful.
This home is a great location. Easy walk to beach but far enough from beach to be very quiet. The home had a wagon for getting things to the beach and about a dozen chairs to use! That was a nice surprise. The outdoor space is really great too - a nice yard for playing in and a great deck for dinner outside.
Loved the privacy. Beautiful yard, deck and charming home yet only 1/4 mile to ocean.
Great property for a family. With the beautiful weather we had, we utilized the deck for most of our meals -sun up to sundown.
Great beach. Very private and quiet!!!
The house is ideally located in and out. Great deck, large secure yard, nice kitchen and great outdoor shower. We found kitchen to be well stocked for our needs and rooms great size for an active family downstairs. Property management really response when we had a small issue! This is a short walk to a wonderful beach! We hope to return next year.
We are so grateful that Mark and Noelle worked with us to make this last minute trip work when our other plans were canceled. We had a wonderful time! The house was very comfortable and full of all that we needed. Although the Rye area is full of wonderful shops and restaurants we stayed close due to our conservative approach during covid 19. Between the beautiful beach, welcoming backyard ( with plenty of backyard toys to enjoy), and puzzles and games, we had a relaxing, enjoyable, and restorative family vacation. As described, the beach is a short walk away which worked out well for us. The walk was pleasant and we enjoyed being in a quiet neighborhood away from the slightly more congested beach front area. We went to Odoirne State Park a couple of times to walk the trails and explore the rocks and tide pools. We had plenty of space both at the state park (you need parking reservations this year) and the beach.
We had a great stay and would love to return someday!
We had so much fun in this location. Short walk to the beach and lots of family meals outside on the deck! The weather was beautiful so we were able to take full advantage of Rye!
This home was beautiful and was a very nice walk to the beach. Family of seven stayed with PLENTY of room and with easy parking. I would HIGHLY recommend this home for a getaway. Rye NH was beautiful!
What a charming house! We loved the big backyard, sunny back deck, and all the comforts of home. House was clean and well-maintained, and the property manager was a pleasure to deal with. This house is just a short walk from Jenness Beach, and we also enjoyed many walks in the neighborhood.
The walk to the beach is 5 minutes along a quaintly landscaped lane. Bunnies hop through this backyard and all the neighbors. Backyard is well landscaped with lush grass and shade from trees as sun begins to bake giving delightful respite and solace. Interior is New England classic; smaller room sizes offset by spacious backyard canopied porch. Outside shower used by my family 99% of the time...never once a "bathroom line"! It felt like, and was treated as if my own family home. We came as a nuclear family reunion -- kids across the country coming back 'home' to their childhood growing up spots. 5 year old granddaughter and 3 year old grandson were equally delighted by yard and beach. Everything essential was there; everything non-essential was blissfully ignored. A few had office commitments and were able to accomplish tasks and slide back in with group seamlessly. WiFi in house was fine, cell service is spotty all along the coast in this area....welcome excuse for bowing out of conference calls! I cannot think of one thing to make this a better spot four our family. We were : two married couples, two grands; two adult sisters who reverted to their very young years sharing a room with twin beds!

Lovely, clean family beach cottage!
This cottage did not disappoint! I loved the circular flow with plenty of room for sitting down together, as well as cozy spots for a cup of tea and a good book. The back patio is beautiful and the location is perfect for day trips to the beach and Portsmouth. This place is an excellent choice for a getaway!

What a charming home for a girlfriend trip!
I spent a week here last September with several of my girlfriends. The house is clean and well supplied. The beds are comfortable with fresh linens and the kitchen has everything you could need to prepare a meal. The back deck is the perfect gathering place for meals or evening wine and cheese. We had fun walking the lovely neighborhood, strolling down to the beach and taking yoga classes at the yoga studio within walking distance. A perfect restorative week in New England. I would not hesitate to stay in this house again.

The perfect place to getaway with family or friend
For the last two years I have been able to enjoy the perfect girlfriends getaway at this precious cape cod home in Rye, NH. The home is perfectly appointed with everything you need to relax and spend time with friends walking the beautiful beach, biking the back roads or sitting on the back porch drinking tea. Comfortable and quiet, classic and carefree. I have been looking forward to my return since the moment I walked out the door.

Relaxing and oh-so-perfect!
We loved our first stay so much we returned to this delightful property... so convenient to the ocean, small shops (and yoga!) but tucked away on a blissfully quiet street. Everything from the fabulous deck and well-kept landscaping to the BIG updated shower (that rainshower head! Bliss!) and super comfy beds made me wish we could have stayed on for weeks. Is it a Nouveau McMansion? Blessedly, NO - it is timeless and sweet and feels like staying at your favorite aunt's house. Spanking clean, all the kitchenware you need, and BIG new washer/dryer. The puzzles and books in the cozy nook were much appreciated. We'll be back!

charming seaside getaway
This is a quaint yet quietly elegant seaside home that features a huge deck overlooking a tastefully landscaped garden. The kitchen has everyone you could possibly need, even a popcorn maker. The entire home is clean and well appointed. The living room has new couches that are comfy and an adjoining little library area where one can retreat for reading or putting together a puzzle. The upstairs bedrooms have comfortable beds with nice linens. I enjoyed a relaxing fall weekend with friends. We were steps away from walks on the beach and enjoyed morning yoga classes at Rye Beach Yoga. Other nearby treats include lobster rolls and chowder. There are bikes that guests can use to toodle around town on. One of my personal favorite things about this property is the outdoor shower! I love taking an outdoor shower after a dip in the sea. The beach access leads to a stunning view of the sea. It's fun to watch all the surfers out there in wetsuits trying to catch a wave. Sunset on the beach is glorious. I would recommend this property to a friend or relative in a heart beat. And I have!

Pictures are deceiving...
We booked this property after looking at the pictures on the VRBO website and boy were we surprised once we actually set foot inside the home. The house is older and much smaller then the pictures let on. After further review, the photos were taken with a wide and long camera angle to make each room look much larger then it actually was. The furniture is old and needs to be updated. The location being a few blocks to the beach was very convenient and there is a large driveway which holds 4-5 cars, which was helpful. Our family would not stay here again.

Why they chose this property
This is a family home purchased by my grandparents in the late 1930s. My father was raised in the house and grew up in Rye and as he embarked upon a career in the US Navy, this was where we always came to spend summers with grandparents. Now the home is loved by the third and fourth generation and we hope to preserve it for the fifth!
What makes this property unique
Jenness Beach is notorious for having inadequate public parking- so this property which enables guests to walk to Jenness Beach via the Cable Road beach access saves the headache. Bonus: Outdoor shed on the property has a "rotating cast" of beach items/toys/boogie boards and a beach cart available for guest use...one less thing to pack!
