This is my 3rd year stay. The beauty and sound of nature here give me peace.
Alice is the very best host of any place I’ve ever stayed. I will definitely be back next year for my little piece of tranquility!
We spent two days at the Perched Owl and sank into the coziness of the one room suite and found some peace sitting on the private deck listening and observing the river from above.
It was a very grounding experience as there isn’t WiFi available and zero service in the area which helped eliminate any distractions.
Alice was a great host, very friendly and welcoming and we can’t wait to spend a few more days after spring.
We went to stay one night at this beautiful cabin and it was better than advertised. Sounds from the creek was so soothing. We had a relaxing experience and Alice was great in giving us the directions and making us feel home once we got there. We highly recommend this place to whoever looking for a place to stay during their smoky mountains visit.
Thanks,
Ninan & Jasmin
The Owl's Perch is situated in a remote forest overlooking a beautiful mountain stream. It's a tiny cabin, but very cleverly designed and outfitted. There are many craftsmanship features that help make a stay more peasant and memorable, like the surface of a bedside table made of a think slab of beautiful walnut. The very pretty deck features a trio of locally-carved uprights with animal sculptures. The hosts are very helpful with directions to the many natural attractions in the area. The last couple of dirt road miles approaching the cabin are quite rough, but my 2014 Prius managed it without faltering.Graham County is such a wonderful area and the Owl's Perch is a peaceful and inexpensive location from which to enjoy it.
This was the first stay we had ever had in close proximity to property owners. And it was perfect.
Owners provided the perfect blend of sharing local information and privacy/space.
The property was as advertised.
Simple, small and private with access to beautiful mountain stream-side sights and sounds.
Alice gave us the best directions and instructions! The place was so unique. It is like a treehouse. We slept with the window open a little and the sound of the creek put us to sleep. We will be returning ❤️
Had a nice relaxing stay here. It’s a great property, off the beaten path. You kind of have to just go there to appreciate it. Kind and helpful hosts. Beautiful area.
We were looking for 2 things to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary…..to try something different and a peaceful, low stress get-away. The Owl’s Perch was this and so much more. Even though it is a small bunkhouse, I really think we would have been perfectly fine just hanging out in our little nest for 2 full days. We did enjoying sight-seeing and our day trips, but “the perch” was the highlight of our trip! Doug. Alice, and Skippy were wonderful hosts. We only chatted a few times during our short stay, but it felt like we were leaving friends. We look forward to our return!
It was delightful to sit above the creek reading and then to fall asleep to the sound if the water. Cabin small but cozy and immaculate with everything you need. Doug and Alice are wonderful hosts making you feel comfortable during your stay.
If you are looking to unplug and get away to a relaxing tiny house, then this is the place for you! Alice was so nice and accommodating. We enjoyed reading on the deck and listening to the water from the creek. The drive to the property was well off the beaten path so just make sure to have a vehicle with a clearance. Super cute place to get away from everything!
My wife and I celebrated our 29th anniversary here and it couldn't have been better! Cabin was very cute, steam was beautiful and relaxing, hosts were great! The roads getting into the cabin were not that bad as long as we followed here directions to a T. Definitely planning to go back!
Beautiful place in the middle of forest. Perfect, rustic cabin on the humming brook. Very nice and friendly hosts. If you need some quiet time you will find it here.
The road was narrow, winding, and bumpy but our little Chevy Spark had no problem at all. The payoff is immediately apparent when you arrive. Alice has done a bang-up job of creating a little Shangri-la, right down to the sleepy old dog snoozing on the porch. We loved the signage on the path down by the stream! It IS important to follow Alice's written directions. I would also suggest you try to arrive while it's still daylight. Some of the landmarks might be hard to spot in the dark.

About the host
Hosted by Alice Lumbard
We're Doug and Alice, originally from Illinois. We missed our creek property and slower lifestyle so we moved into our tiny vacation home.
Why they chose this property
We built this separate structure to host our family and friends. We think our boulder filled wild brook trout stream is something special so we decided to share it with guests who want to unplug, enjoy adventure (just getting here!), and nature.
Want to stay longer? We also rent out “The Junction" (#1493247) - a 400 square foot tiny house with full kitchen that sleeps 2, overlooking the same creek downstream.
What makes this property unique
You just can't beat our creek! The rushing water, the solitude of the forest. The highest compliment is when guests say they don't want to leave! We welcome you to come experience small living and see why less is more!
