Great spot in small historic village

The property was lovely. We enjoyed sitting outside and looking over the coast. Ioanna and Koula were great to deal with. The village was fun to explore…. Especially with all the super friendly cats

Stunning Views and Charm

We spent two nights in this lovely Anatoli country house with amazing views, country charm and plenty of space. Lovely surrounding villages and very friendly host/manager, including special homemade pastries! It was a bit more of a trek up the mountain than I thought but ideal for those looking for a quiet retreat and exploring the countryside.

Beautiful place!

A stunning location and charming, very helpful hosts. It's in a village, about a 25-minute drive from the nearest decent-sized town, but there's a village tavern and minimart within a short walk, and you can drive to nearby villages for stunning outdoor dining with fantastic views. Highly recommended!

Wonderful restored property

Persephae house is a wonderfully restored villa in the hills overlooking Ierapetra. Every comfort is provided. It is large and comfortable, full of interesting furnishings. It is not at all surprising that the owner is a restoration architect! We were at first a bit intimidated by the tricky drive to the village on Anatoli but then spent a day admiring the many restorations in the village. In the end, we would have liked to stay longer than our short 3 days.

Ruhiges Haus ohne Kompromisse

Beautiful home away from home!

Spent an amazing week at Ioanna‘s place in a group of four. The house is very spacious, has an amazing terrace overlooking the sea, and all you need to feel right at home during your holiday. Ioanna and Koula - the housekeeper - make sure that you can enjoy your vacation right from the start, and Anatoli is the right place for people that want to enjoy a quiet and peaceful retreat and venture into southern Crete‘s stunning nature. Truly happy we came here and will certainly keep it in mind for the next trip!

IOANNA DOROVINIS is an architect (M.Sc. Columbia Un. NYC), specialist in Conservation of Historic Buildings and Settlements (M.A. York Un.UK), with a PhD in History of Architecture (Athens Polytechnique Un.).
I am a passionate restoration architect, specializing in Cretan home architecture. I like to discover new housing types, to get involved with the procedure of restoring them, by adding and mixing elements from traditional architecture, and watch them becoming great vacation houses with modern facilities and style. I enjoy the simple life of the Cretan village and talking with the old people. I am the author of many articles and studies on Greek historic architecture. I like to travel, cook the Cretan, healthy cuisine, live and create within art and spirit.

Why they chose this property

The house bears the wisdom and the qualities of Cretan domestic architecture, with origins from medieval times and maybe antiquity. Small interventions were enough to convert it into unique pieces of home architecture. The house is an original piece of domestic architecture, no similar houses will be found in the village or elsewhere. It is a big house, with severe exterior that opens though to a lovely courtyard with breathtaking views to the sea. It has a typical Greek village house agglomeration, that has changed very little over the ages, with rooms around the courtyard that is the center of life.

What makes this property unique

Fantastic sea views, peaceful and quiet environment, rich natural environment with excursions to the Cretan landscape, while being close to some of the most beautiful, sandy, blue flag beaches of Eastern Crete.
The village has kept its agricultural character, is very peaceful and quiet without touristic exploitation. In the morning you might be awaken from the birds, while on the walkways you will meet donkeys, dogs and cats. A series of gigantic rocks "protects" the village in the back while in the front the eye captures spectacular sea views.
