We had a great wonderful stay in this cozy cabin. Communication with the property manager was excellent. Great games and movies and a well equipped kitchen. Thank you!
A perfect spot for a family. Comfortable cabin and close to everything. Wrap around deck is especially inviting in the summer. The host made sure we had everything we needed - which we did!
We went to Twain Harte for a week's vacation and enjoyed the beauty and nice weather. The cabin is in an excellent location and has a large deck where we were able to entertain other family members.
We come to Twain Harte with family every summer (my boyfriends family has been coming for 50+ years) and rent multiple cabins with lake access.
Robert’s cabin was perfect for the 6 of us, as we had 2 couples and 1 pair of friends who stayed in the loft. It was only a couple of minutes walk to downtown, which was great for our evening meetup at mini golf.
Robert was extremely communicative and helpful from check-in to check-out. The coffee maker didn’t work and he quickly had someone drop off a new one on the porch. The kitchen was well stocked, and the porch had lots of space and furniture for us to hang out. One thing to note is that the cabin does not come stocked with bath linens (which may have been listed but we did not notice that beforehand) which was fine because we all had extra beach towels.
We had a wonderful time, and will definitely keep it in the rotation for future trips!
Great rustic style cabin in the woods. Very quiet neighborhood. Well stocked with dishes, paper goods etc. Comfortable beds and living dining area. Lots of deck seating.
The only reason I gave it three stars is the floors were pretty dirty. My sox turned really dark. I think the cleaners just vacuum not mop too often. I’m ok with that just wear shoes all the time inside. Didn’t want my grandkids over as there on the floor.
Robert is a wonderful and attentive host.
What a beautiful cabin! All the amenities and creature comforts were there, with the charm of an older cabin. Robert was a great host, very responsive. We enjoyed our nights using the fireplace and watching movies. We had a great time at the snow park about 40min away. Twain Harte is a beautiful little town with great shops. We're looking forward to coming back in the summer!
Even though it is not a fancy newly remodel cabin, it has everything you need for a simple weekend getaway with a small family. The place is clean. I went during the Christmas and the hot water works perfectly in the house. It doesn’t bother me a bit, but I want to make aware that the house does not have dish washer nor laundry room. Robert is very responsive via txt and email. Great host , great house!!!
The cabin is made of wonderful wood and has the charm of an older place, yet it has been modernized for all you need. Bathrooms are great (clean, good water pressure); kitchen is quaint and very easy to navigate - even has a newer floor; furnace works wonderfully if needed. Robert is a great host. He is responsive and friendly. The beds were comfortable and the linens were great quality. Games and a lot of DVD movies were on hand. Easy walk to town as advertised. Only thing I felt needs attention is the two sofas and the lighting in that beautiful room. There are wonderful older sconces, but it's still way too dark in there. I know an LED panel wouldn't match the charm, but it sure would provide light.
We had such a wonderful weekend! First off, Robert is a great host and communicator. He provided all the information we needed upfront including helpful recommendations about the area and was quick to respond at all times. The location couldn't be better, very peaceful, and just a short walk to restaurants and shops. The cabin itself is clean, comfortable, has plenty of space, and gives you a homey feeling. It's an excellent location for wildlife viewing too! We saw many deer, birds, squirrels, and even a jackrabbit while relaxing on the deck. We enjoyed our stay very much and can't wait to return!
It was 5 of us. Grandpa, my husband, and two boys are 12 and 8 years old. The cabin location is easy to access from the highway and close to the Twain Harte Market. Robert is an excellent host; we promptly answered all the communication we had.
The kitchen has everything we need to cook for two breakfasters and dinners. Steaming TV and the Internet work great on every device. The cabin itself is adorable and comfortable. We wish we can stay more than just a weekend!
My friends and I had a great weekend staying at this Cabin and using it as a base camp for skiing ~30 minutes from Dodge Ridge. The Cabin was clean, check-in was easy, and Robert was very responsive if we had questions. The Cabin has that quaint, rustic feel but still has nice convenient amenities (i.e. the wifi worked well, we were able to stream things on the TV, etc). We had no issues with the heating and found the place warm during our stay. It was also very convenient that there are 6 separate mattresses, so it made sleeping arrangements easy going with my group of friends. We really had no complaints at all, and had a wonderful stay. I would definitely recommend this cabin to others!
We are a family of five, mom, dad, and 3 kids ages 12, 9, and 9. We went skiing to Dodge Ridge and decided to stay in the cabin close to the ski resort. The cabin has everything you need, it is very well organized and the instructions on what to do are very clear. The cabin was also very clean, and our family had a blast staying there. The owner was quite attentive and always checking on us via text, which was quite nice.
Highly recommended!
We had a great time here! We had three adults and three kids, and the loft worked out great for the two girls. We took it as a little snow cabin get away (although there was no snow around the cabin - too low of an elevation I guess).
The main living room was really dark because of the layout (the converted sunroom to a bedroom off the living room blocks the light coming in), and they are still working on getting more lights to brighten up the space. It was actually pretty hard to see much unless I sat right next to the table lamp, but the kids had plenty of fun playing games.
Be aware that there are NO TOWELS. I didn't quite read the listing close enough to see that: my friend caught it and I luckily brought towels at the last minute, but it did mean that getting in the shower was less desirable because I didn't want to pack a wet towel in the car.
The communication with the host was lovely: he had a great list of places nearby and let me know there wasn't any snow nearby, but did recommend a snow park about half hour away. We ended up going just about 15 minutes away up the highway and found two great spots to go sledding: one was a bare hill covered in snow and full of excellent little sledding spots. The other spot was a gorgeous little meadow where we could snowshoe around the running river and it had icy bits on top of marsh land (perhaps? hard to tell) where the kids could just run and slide around. There were also great sledding spots in the meadow. We really enjoyed this vacation and it suited our needs!
Excellent Comfortable Place for short or long term
Pondering Pines is a a charming cottage for a short or long visit. It has all the amenities that a family needs and then some - plenty of room, beds, games etc. to keep everyone comfortable and occupied. The cabin is close to all the local favorites of Twain Harte. Robert was also accommodating with our some requirements that came up. We would be happy to stay at Pondering Pines again.
My family had a wonderful stay at this place! The cabin is cozy and provides many amenities. The check-in/check-out process went smoothly. The owner, Robert, is very easy to communicate with: he responds to our requests promptly and is always there to help. The cabin is located in a beautiful town, surrounded by the giant pine trees and a quiet and friendly neighborhood. The location is very close to local restaurants. We tried The Rock, a restaurant that Robert recommended, and the food was delicious. This was our first time visiting Twain Harte. We visited during the winter, but this place provides many opportunities to explore during the summer as well. We will definitely visit again!
Great classic cabin! Very well maintained and comfortable! Close proximity to a larger cabin we also rented as part of our family Thanksgiving gathering. Robert is a proactive communicator and made sure we reach him if needed. We had a wonderful time together!
We just returned from a week-long stay at Pondering Pines, and found our accommodations to be wonderful. We were looking for an older era Twain Harte cabin, and this fit the bill. The cabin was nicely outfitted, and Robert was helpful and accommodated our every need. Hope to be staying there again next year (or sooner).

Why they chose this property
My family has been vacationing in Twain Harte for about 15 years now. We were looking for a vacation place that had everything. Twain Harte is that place. Twain Harte offers a beautiful swimming and fishing only lake, restaurants within walking distance, Pee Wee golf, hiking trails , golf course , movies in the park , only a few hours from the bay area , snow skiing and much more. Its been a long time dream of mine to own my own vacation place in the mountains. With the support of my wife we were able to make it work.
What makes this property unique
Our cabin is located on a very quiet street yet its within walking distance to restaurants , pee wee golf and your morning coffee and fresh baked scone !!!. Its has a large deck and sits on about 1/4 of an acre.We spend every morning having coffee on the deck and every evening bbqing and enjoying our great view as the sun sets. Deer can often be seen coming up from the creek down the hill behind the cabin. The creek is too far to hike to. Sorry kids :) On the nights we get back too late from the lake or playing in the snow we often walk to town for a bite at one of the local restaurants. 'The Rock' is very popular! The cabin was built in 1937 but has all the comforts of home. YES! It has central heat !!! We love Twain Harte and we love our cabin. I know you will too. NO PETS ALLOWED
