Villa Schirinzi is located about 100 meters from the sea of San Pietro in Bevagna, a seaside village in the municipality of Manduria, a town on the Ionian coast of Salento. In the village you will find all the services: bars, restaurants, pizzerias, also just 25 km away is Porto Cesareo, the most well-known locality in the area but also more crowded than San Pietro in Bevagna which can offer its holiday guests so much tranquility and a truly Caribbean sea.
It seems that the name of this place is linked to a legend concerning the apostle Saint Peter who was shipwrecked on these coasts following a storm at sea. Here he performed a miracle: thirsty he saw a fresh water well with a statue of a pagan god nearby, he made the sign of the cross and the statue fell apart. Following this miracle, people began to convert to Christianity and to commemorate that miracle, a church was erected: the Crypt of the Redeemer which can still be admired in the center of the country.
The whole coast up to Porto Cesareo is a succession of kilometers of beaches such as Torre Colimena, Punta Prosciutto, Torre Lapillo consisting of fine white sand dunes and a crystal clear sea. Manduria is 12 km inland, the town has become world famous for the "Primitivo di Manduria" wine, many wineries in the area offer tasting tours. A few tens of km you can reach the most famous centers of Salento: Lecce, Otranto, Ostuni and many others.
