This our second time staying in this comfortable cabin. It’s just over a mile to the Guion Parking lot of DuPont State Forest, so it’s ideal if you’re planning a visit. Cabin was very clean and the kitchen was well equipped for all our meals. If you want to bring your horses, contact the host and make arrangements for stall or pasture rental as well. Olivia was very responsive, informative, and available if we had any questions. We also love all the little dogs that came to visit! We will definitely return.
The house was very accommodating. The views of the open sky and horses were beautiful. The beds are comfortable. It is conveniently located to Ride Kanuga.
My daughter and I race downhill mountain bikes, and wherever we race we like to be as far from the event as possible. This location was perfect, far enough away to not be bothered by the chaos yet close enough to make the drive enjoyable. The drive to Hendersonville is only about 20 minutes. The best thing about this location, other than the lack of traffic and the location, is the working farm. The children enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the horses and playing with the farm dogs. The owners are awesome as well. We are definitely going to stay here again next year.
This is a beautiful rustic cottage in an amazing setting. Pictures on the listing do not do this location justice. Olivia and Ryan were great to deal with and we are already planning a return trip.
Our little family came to Hendersonville as a convenient spot from which to see family and friends in Gastonia, Shelby, Hendersonville, and Asheville during the holidays. My kiddos loved walking across the street to see the horses, and we had a delightful afternoon in downtown Hendersonville. It was rainy during our stay, so we didn’t take advantage of the cute fire pit and the proximity to beautiful hiking trails and waterfalls that my family rave about. We hope to return in the summer or fall to do so! I adored cooking on the cute yet spacious stove and cleaning up dishes in front of the large kitchen window.
Loved the doggies (Willard!), who greeted us upon arrival. Loved the serenity of the natural surroundings. The cottage is totally comfy and almost magical if you’re ok with a vintage vibe. Super private. The covered porch looking at the horses and mountains was like therapy (I lost my 30 yo thoroughbred the same week). The bathroom was really challenging but it wouldn’t deter us from booking again. It’s the perfect balance of unpretentiousness and charm! Short drives to Hendersonville and Brevard were fun. The hour drive to Greenville SC was totally worth it! Saw a black bear on the NC Arboretum trails. So much fun! The mountains and peace and quiet were healing to the soul. We took everything at a chill pace but packed a lot in.
Perfect spot for weekend getaway with small children
We loved our stay and will definitely come back. Outdoor space was nice, and furniture/beds were cozy. Kitchen had everything we needed, and the cottage was clean and super cute. Note- the mattresses are on the softer side. We all slept great, but noting for folks that prefer a harder mattress. Plenty of linens and towels for everyone, and super convenient to Dupont State Park hikes and waterfalls. Also convenient to Pisgah and Brevard. The bathroom is on the smaller side, but that wasn't an issue for us. My kids loved watching the horses in the pasture across the street. Overall perfect for our weekend getaway.
We loved our stay at the quaint farmhouse. It is a precious small cottage in all the best ways. Our children are already asking to go back. We loved greeting the horses in the morning and loving a sweet pup as well. Great proximity to all Hendersonville has to offer. We went snowtubing, explored the downtown area and hiked to triple falls before heading home.
The house was very clean and had everything we needed.
Can’t wait to come back for another visit.
We enjoyed this historic home and beautiful surrounding property so much that we requested to stay an additional evening. The hosts were great at communication. The home was clean. We took our baby on his first trip and this was the perfect place to stay. It was small enough that we could safely keep an eye on him but had a separate room to accommodate his travel crib for restful sleep. It was also very close to the waterfall hikes and Jeter Mountain Farm Orchard (which allowed the baby to only have short rides in the car seat-another plus)! The bathroom tub/shower is very small as others have mentioned. It didn’t bother me, as it’s part of the authenticity of a historic home, but will say my husband had a harder time with it. Again, the small bath made it easy with the baby. The property is just so relaxing and pretty. It was very nice to sit at the fire pit in the evenings and listen to the horses all around. The air smells sweet, there is a nice breeze and the colors in the sky are especially great at sunrise and sunset. We cooked and the kitchen had all of the basic things we needed. We also appreciated having a place to do laundry so we could come home with all clean clothes.
We wanted a beautiful stay in the country and that’s exactly what we got! Tranquility, beauty and relaxation, all while being close to the things we came to do: hiking, swimming in waterfalls, horseback riding. I highly recommend this beautifully updated 1920’s farmhouse nestled in the middle of a working horse farm. Where you can sit on the porch and eat your supper and listen to the horses neigh, have amazing sunset views, and watch the fire flies dance when the sun goes down. It was a little slice of heaven.
Quiet country farmhouse, near great hiking, close to Brevard and Hendersonville. Great fun watching the horses while sitting on the porch. Nice place to get some rest.
Best location for peace and quiet! Enjoyed morning coffee on front porch watching the horses. Located near Dupont state park, beautiful waterfalls. Cottage was excellent. Hope to stay there again.
Amazing location, very cute and comfortable cottage
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The setting is magical - beautiful mountains, rolling hills and farmland, with horses right across the street. A nice little yard for the kids to roam around. The house was comfortable and well laid-out. Perfect location for exploring DuPont and Pisgah. Note that there is no cell service in the area, and the wifi is dependent on satellite. There were limited supplies in the house, but we brought our own food and only stayed for two nights so that wasn't an issue. We will be back!

About the host
Hosted by Ryan and Olivia Ducker
Olivia purchased the property fresh out of college in 2010. The farmhouse, adjacent to her grandparents farm was a surprise opportunity. The house was originally the farm's original farmhouse, but through time the property had been divided and sold. Today, Olivia manages the original farmland plus an additional 10 acres of pasture land Olivia has purchased. Olivia teaches riding lessons and boards more than 15 horses. She and her husband Ryan, recently built a larger home for their growing family allowing the smaller farmhouse to be a vacation rental.
Why they chose this property
The farmhouse is located within .04 miles to one of the many trails accessing DuPont Recreational Forest. Dupont is an outdoor paradise with many waterfalls and miles of scenic trails. In addition, the cabin is centrally located between Brevard and Hendersonville, NC. Each easily accessible in less than 15 minutes.
What makes this property unique
Although built in the 1920's, The cabin has been completely renovated to include high efficiency heating and air conditioning, while maintaining the charm of a wood burning fireplace, metal roof, and a front porch for relaxation.
