Wonderful Week

My spouse and I had a delightful week at the pool house. The location is beautiful and private but only 20 minutes from all the amenities of Manchester. We swam every day in the pool and just totally relaxed. We look forward to returning soon.

Love this house!

We loved this house. It's cozy yet spacious and very well-stocked. Our kids LOVED the indoor pool and swam several times per day. The owner was a pleasure to work with and answered all questions promptly. Also, the EV charger at the house saved us! Thanks for a great stay!

Great people

Things go wrong from time to time. When they do- you want owners like this that fox things quickly and respect your time.

Wonderful!

We really enjoyed our stay at the pool house. The indoor pool room is amazing, and we had the unique experience of swimming all afternoon while watching the snow fall outside! The house is beautiful, with large yet cozy rooms and had everything that we needed. We cooked several meals in the kitchen, and there were even plastic wine glasses to take to the pool 😊 The Wi-Fi was way to connect to and strong enough for all the devices. The dining room was a favorite space, with an entire wall of glass up to a vaulted ceiling. We played board games and watched the wildlife when we weren’t swimming in the pool or watching movies in the family room. There is a nice woods and mountain view out back. Manchester was a short drive for shopping and restaurants. We contacted the host a few times with questions and he was quick to respond with helpful answers. We would absolutely stay here again.

Great winter family getaway

This is by far the best vacation we have been on since Covid started. My husband and 2 kids and I never even left the house. It was cold, snowy and all we wanted to do was swim. We brought all the food we needed to make our dinners. Brought board games and had the best time. Super clean and cozy. We brought our own towels but they had plenty of beach towels for days. Nice touches we greatly appreciated. We loved to maple syrup and pancake mix. We look forward to coming back for another fun visit.

Indoor Pool & Close to Skiing

Communication and check in with Charles was flawless. The house is extremely well equipped. They have thought of everything. Our only issue was the inability to control the pool area temp. It was pretty cold to sit out there watching the grandkids play in the pool, which was the reason for renting this house. It improved late in the afternoon but try holding kids off until 3pm! So, renting on a typical January day in Vermont and considering the price for a house with a pool, it seems silly not to be able to let the renters control the pool area temperature just like any other room in the house. Even my husband wore his jacket to sit out there.

our family had a wonderful time!

We stayed for 3 nights in early October and had a wonderful time. The pool was amazing (our daughters loved it!), and the house had everything we needed. Absolutely beautiful area, and lots of places to drive to that aren't too far away. Plenty of family hikes in the area as well. Wonderful! Would go again for sure.

April school vacation

I rented this home to spend some much needed family time with 4 grandchildren and a friend. We loved this property. The indoor pool is certainly a game changer traveling with kids. We only left this house twice during our stay to grab groceries. We had the best time.

We’ll be back!

Mettawee was fantastic. The property was in fantastic shape in every way—clean, well furnished, and full of thoughtful little touches that enhanced our stay. The owners really go out of their way to make it comfortable. The pool is obviously the pièce de résistance, and is what separates this from anywhere else we’ve ever stayed. Outstanding!

Great House for a nice getaway

The house is great, with a unique character. It has a lot of space and rooms, with enjoyable outdoor patio. Located 20 min from the center, it provides the perfect environment for people who want to disconnect or simply work from somewhere else. Charles has been very responsive during the process and everything went well.

Perfect Winter Weekend Getaway

First of all, Charles truly makes himself available when it comes to communicating with him. He is very prompt to respond right away. The house was perfect for 10 adults (and we did not utilize the basement). Once we got there we did not leave until it was Check-Out time! It was the perfect winter weekend getaway. The views are absolutely amazing! I only gave 4 stars for the location simply because the nearest grocery store was roughly 20 minutes away; however, we showed up full prepared! I would highly suggest this house and even rent it again!

Wonderful place for a weekend getaway!

This home was the perfect place for a weekend in Vermont! The house was very clean upon arrival and we used the kitchen to prepare meals all weekend. The location has gorgeous views and is just a short drive from Manchester for restaurants, grocery stores, outlets, and more. The bedrooms were very comfortable and we all felt at home for the weekend away. Would definitely return!

A great place to hang out with friends!

The Mettawee house was the perfect setting for our weekend get away Bachelorette party. Clean, comfortable, and spacious, we used the common rooms during the day for lounging and games and still all had a private space to retreat to at night. It was cold outside but the pool was a comfortable temperature and there are great views from every window. Would definitely use again!!

Great Weekend Getaway

I had a great time with friends saying at the Mettawee house. We used the well appointed kitchen to make a few meals, got to go swimming in the indoor pool, and slept well in comfortable rooms. Everything we needed was there! I only wish we could have stayed longer!

Beautiful views, Amazing accommodations

We stayed in Littlebranch for 2 nights and 3 days. Although the weather was cold, the warmth of the property and the kindness of the owners made for an unforgettable stay. The owners were very communicative throughout the process, and the house is perfect for a relaxing getaway. Our guests enjoyed the indoor pool and made use of all of the rooms, which were clean and hospitable. We will definitely stay here in the future! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

BEAUTIFUL

BEAUTIFUL, SPACIOUS PROPERTY .As a child I spent summers with my grandparent in Vermont. My children are born Floridians so before they become too old to travel with mom I wanted them to see the real Vermont. Just spectacular! I thought we might be too late for the changing leaves- but it was just perfect. Spacious well equipped home. We were a party of nine and home was more than enough. Plenty of things to do, SHOPPING, horseback riding, exploring- but also away from it all for privacy. The indoor pool was the icing on the cake for the kids. The owner Charles was great, very attentive throughout the reservation process and through our stay.

Perfect setting for our family reunion

We just had a wonderful family reunion (12 adults and 11 children) at the two Mettawee properties. The website description was well-done and accurate, making it easy to imagine us staying there. The amenities were high-end, the property was immaculate and our adult kids were thrilled with the layout and location. Our grandkids enjoyed playing ball and flashlight tag at night on the well manicured lawns. The Mettawee House has the huge master suite next to the pool - a real treat for one of our CA based families. The pool room is spacious and well equipped. The two upstairs bedrooms are cozy and comfortable for sleeping. No one wanted to use the twin beds in the windowless basement room, but the ping-pong table was well used. There is a spacious deck with plenty of seating and a superior grill.  The kitchen is well equipped, and the adjacent pantry is very convenient.  The appliances are top-of-the-line, helping to make cooking a pleasure.  There is also a large but cozy living room/library with a fireplace.

ULTIMATE RELAXATION

Our third consecutive summer vacation at Mettawee was for two weeks rather than our usual one and provided more than double the relaxation. The wrap-around deck and patio offer a three-directional view as sun and shadow slow dance through the day. Favorites of ours: morning coffee on the deck as the rising sun chases away the eerily beautiful layers of fog from Green Mountain on the east and Dorset Mountain on the southwest; the sky from east to west as the sun sets; and the incredible stars at night, which included a shooting star this year and the sound of distant coyotes (seen only rarely, in the distance). Birds abound, including a very beautiful and very large hawk with banded tail and dark breast. And the humorous chipmunks . . . Solitude without isolation, indeed, with Danby sitting above Rt. 7, between Manchester and Rutland. We’ve been return renters at Mettawee since our first visit in the spring of 2011, and yet we continue to find nearby roads we have not yet explored. The house is all that is described on this and the Mettawee websites. The kitchen makes trying new recipes a breeze. And the treat of the indoor pool is multiplied by all the glass—from the pool, you can spy on the birds that take advantage of your absence from the patio to bathe (or frolic: they seem quite pleased) in the birdbath. We rent Mettawee to relax and swim and get lost on the maze of roads that offer surprises (and, in the spring and fall, hike the shorter trails): Mettawee is never disappointing. Great customer service, if ever needed.

About the host

Hosted by Charles Harris

Host profile image
The Mettawee house was originally purchased by the owners as a vacation home. The owners loved the Danby location, and the local residents were incredibly friendly. The indoor pool was a great feature, that isn't found in many homes - particularly in Vermont! The owners like the property so much that they decided to share it with others so that they could experience the gorgeous setting, incredible views, and unique Vermont experience.

Why they chose this property

Welcome to Vermont! In the Green Mountains State, you'll find famous fall foliage, renowned maple syrup and the most snow on the east coast. But there is so much more too: enjoy local food at restaurants and farmers’ markets, savor the revered beer culture, meet world-class artisans, explore endless recreational opportunities, rejuvenate at the spa, learn at noteworthy historic sites and above all, please stay awhile… Vermont’s attributes will continue to reveal themselves to you in honest and inspiring ways.

Vermonters are known for their independent-thinking, friendliness, sportiness, and resourcefulness. The state’s residents love the land and are committed to preserving, as well as sharing it. Vermont’s agricultural traditions have created open working landscapes amid a backdrop of mountains, many of which make up the nation’s first through-hiking trail, the Long Trail.

While it’s easy to spend days simply taking in the scenery, it’s even more rewarding to become a part of it. It’s easy to explore backs roads and well-maintained trails by bicycle. Go for a run or walk along busy downtown paths or quiet villages with covered bridges. Drop into a halfpipe on your skis or snowboard and share the trail with local Olympians. Cast a line in a lake or stream, or relax beachside at a pristine state park. Whatever the day brings, the night is sure to deliver a solid night’s rest - whether you choose to camp under the stars, cozy up under a quilt at an inn, or appreciate the thread-count at a luxurious resort.

In Vermont, one thing is beautifully certain: The seasons will change. And with that change, so does the landscape, the recreation, and the way of life. With every season comes new opportunities to explore the world around you. Welcome to a state that is truly never out of season.

What makes this property unique

Unique Benefits:
Swimming in the indoor pool in the middle of a snow storm
Unparalleled views of the mountains
