We enjoyed the beach house very much. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the ocean view. Don’t forget to visit the wildlife refuge. it made the trip for us.
We booked this at the last minute for a getaway as the school year ended. It was tight to put a family of 5 in a one bedroom but the property is clean and neat and has options between an extra daybed with trundle in bedroom and two pullouts under sofa in living room. The deck has amazing view and I loved enjoying morning tea out there with the bay views and breezes. The extra use of paddleboards and kayaks, bikes and beach chairs/umbrellas cannot be overlooked as this saves renters on both cost of renting kayaks and paddleboards and the convenience of not needing to bring your own chairs and umbrellas. Victor and Marianne were very responsive and easy to contact at all times throughout our stay.
The pictures and description of this property are a very accurate representation of what you are renting. There were no surprises there (as we have had at other VRBO properties).
We found the location to be the best part of this property. We were looking for a long weekend getaway during the pandemic and this house fit the bill. It is in a very quiet low-key neighborhood with friendly residents. Broadkill Beach seems to have very few rules as far as what is allowed or not. Dogs are allowed on the beach. Fishing is allowed. And fires are allowed on the beach. We saw a variety of activities and everyone was respectful of each other and cleaned up after themselves.
This rental house is the first house closest to the beach. However because of the dunes, you actually don't have a water view from the house. The dunes also block some of the soothing sound as well. It is a very short walk to the top of the dune and then you are right at the water.
Regarding the house itself - the pictures on this listing are an accurate representation. It's a very dated house, but it was clean. The kitchen was decently stocked, but could use some things like measuring cups and other small kitchen items. The house itself would really benefit from some overall maintenance. The windows on the front patio room were difficult to open (and some starting to fall apart), the door on the ocean side of the house is locked due to no steps (this would be an amazing place for a patio to sit on!!), and the bathroom shower leaves a lot to be desired. I am not giving this rental a lower rating or less stars because the pictures show all of this and we knew what we were renting. Just some suggestions on how to improve the property!
Regarding the area - we had seen several things online talking about the awesome Broadkill Store just down the street. We had planned to stop there and grab a few supplies when we arrived at the house. Don't waste your time. The store has very little stock of anything. I hear they have good ice cream, but we didn't try it. Other than that though, don't plan on getting much from here - plan head and bring food/drink with you. It should also be noted, if you're not from Delaware, they have different liquor laws. You cannot buy beer/wine at the grocery or gas station. You must by it from a liquor store. Just a heads up!
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we would definitely come back! The area is lovely!
We got lucky Marianna's property became available for a few nights.
it's the closest to the beach in a small beach community. No crowds, just sand and the sea.
All amenities were in working order; house was spotless; there was no need to haul sheets or towels :) washer and dryer are on site as well!
WiFI was strong allowing the whole family (working and schooling online) to use their electronic devices without a problem.
Broadkill beach store is a few hundred yards away. Prime hook wildlife preserve is a 5-minute drive and if you want to see people Milton and Lewes are 15-20 min away.
We enjoyed our stay and will be back.
Our family of five really enjoyed our stay at Broadkill Beach. The house is in the perfect location to enjoy the beach, the sunrise and the ice cream at the Broadkill Store. The house had everything we needed to make meals in the kitchen. And our host was very responsive.
Nice, small house that suited our needs for a short beach vacation. Perfect location with steps to the beach. Could use some new screens on the front door and some windows to help keep the flies out.

What makes this property unique
Broadkill beach is very quiet and peaceful area. It is at the very beginning of Delaware bay, so the waves are smaller than on the ocean.
If you want to explore other places nearby, here is brief overview: Lewes beach, which is the closest town south of Broadkill, is located next to Cape Henlopen State Park and Fort Miles Historic Area. It has outdoor displays of artillery from WWII. Rehoboth Beach is a lively area with restaurants, bars and a water park. It is also known for Tanger outlets stretched along the Coastal Hwy (Delaware is an attractive tax-free shopping destination). Dewey beach has bay access, and because of shallow, calm water it is popular with people who do windsurfing and kiteboarding.
